I have not heard of this brand before. Chain reaction cycles' own brand?? Posted this because the kit (with 105 kit) on the bike looks decent and couple of good reviews. Looks like a lightweight bike too. All the sizes are available at the moment. Extra 10% off if you have British cycling membership. I will leave it to the cycling experts in the forum to judge.

All new for 2016 we have revised our highly popular Zenium SL model to feature the pinnacle of braking performance on road bikes by the addition of disc brakes. Featuring low weight and supreme durability at a fraction of the cost of carbon counterparts; what’s not to like!

The Zenium SL features a custom designed superlight alloy disc brake specific frame which has an ultra durable and weight saving anodized finish, a full carbon disc brake specific fork with 15mm through axle; Shimano 105 11 speed gearing; TRP Spyre disc brakes; Fulcrum Racing 5 Disc Brake wheelset and Vitus finishing kit to complete the package.

Super Light 6066-T6 Triple Butted Alloy Frame With T700 HM-UD Carbon Fork

The 2016 Zenium SL frame features a super light 6066-T6 triple butted alloy tubeset with smooth welds; we have omitted a brace on the seatstays to help tune out road vibrations and have flared the seat tube at the bottom bracket junction to increase lateral stiffness for optimised power transfer and vertical compliance to combine the best of both worlds; up front a tapered headtube and oversized hydroformed tubing culminate in razor sharp handling.

Our semi-sloping endurance geometry offers a balanced ride resulting in reduced rider fatigue and confidence inspiring handling. The T700 HM-UD disc brake specific full carbon fork features a tapered carbon steerer for increased steering precision with reduced road buzz from rough road surfaces. A 15mm through axle provides enhanced braking performance and improved handling to counteract the brake forces which are transmitted through one side of the fork.

With tyre clearance up to 28mm wide tyres the new Zenium SL offers great all round, all road capabilities.

Not a big fan of Sammy but have to agree here. Have bought from CRC before but not anymore. Lots won't agree but that's how I feel.

Had thought of that but feel this is only the start of redundancies. Seems to be the way things are here caterpillar , bombardier. Bought of CRC in the past to support homegrown business. Have voiced my opinion to them. Only a small fish but my small protest might make them rethink.

Fairly pointless on road bikes. Disc brakes are already starting to disappear, hence the many cheap disc bikes.

This quite a deal for a well specced fast road bike - good frame, excellent full 105 groupset, good wheels and okay finishing kit. Seems a bit unnecessary to go for disc brakes in this type of bike, but the semi hydraulics are supposed to be decent. Reviewed well at £1300, looks like a real bargain at £700!

I would stick with the 105, Ultegra is only marginally better (ie slight lighter, the fuction is no different, and arguably not as tough).

They are cable pull, aren't they?

Cable pull work fine with a bit of tweaking, the hybrid types are marginally better.

However if I was shopping round at this budget and wanted something rapid and ligther I would avoid disc, however this bike would still make a great al rounder, commuter, winter hack, or heavy duty road bike.

Great price though.

The GT is another option for the same money, but only now comes in xs and small. Think the Vitus is better value because of the 105 crankset and Fulcrum wheels. But the GT comes with cable operated hydraulic brakes.

Vitus is far more road/race oriented. Lighter and more agile. GT is a typical adventure road. Heavier but with better tyre clearances and more universal.

I think the discs are worth having if you can fit wider tyres; not many people Cat race after all. I run 28's but would consider 30s as it makes the ride better but I don't race and never will do.

Its the nature of competition and in particular the mail order/internet sales channel. I don't see an easy way to prevent this kind of actvity, sad though it is. The issue that can arise is if one retailer was able to corner the market so much that it could effectively prevent new entrants to the market being viable.

Nice bike but not sure I would pay a premium for cable pull discs. Not offering enough advantage on a standard road bike. CX perhaps.

Also, don't you think they look a bit ugly?

Road cc test HERE They like them 'Much better than any cantilever or dual pivot rim brake I've used, particularly in wet or muddy conditions' from the review.

these are Trp Spyres. best mechanic brakes you can get. I have them on my GT Grade. they are really good. very easy to set up and easier than rim brakes to adjust! this bike is a bargain. smoking hot.
