Was going to switch to sky broadband and telephone for £23 month after £60 tcb and £50 m&s vouchers.

Virgin offered free line rental for 12 months, so only works out £17 after they discounted a further £2.

50mb broadband plus unlimited XL call package. Bargain .

That's suspiciously cheap. I couldn't get it that cheap and I'm with them for 9 years.

I got a similar deal, they paid my line rental up front for 12 months and now they are charging me £25 a month for what was the Big Kahuna package which I think is the XL TV, Broadband and Phone bundle, on a 12 month contract

Got a call from both virgin and sky today after cancelling and ordering a bt deal. virgin offered 17.25 a month for 70mb broadband which I took them up on (I've been happy with my service and would rather not deal with the installation of a master socket, drilling, mess and the hassle of quidco and Mastercard to make the deal worth it). sky reduced my variety pack from £15 to £12.80. I know I was better off with Bt price wise, but it's still £30 a month vs £42 I was paying. Also means I don't have to convince them to put the router upstairs in the boiler cupboard, where all my ethernet cables are routed from for the whole house.

I had 50mb BB and phone with evening and weekend calls (I think it is) from a Uswitch deal on a standard 12month contract that I joined up on around 4months ago (29.99 all in) and had a letter to tell me that my services we're going up by £3.49 pm. I only got the phone line installed as it made the broadband actually cheaper and don 't need a landline.

I just called then to see what they could do and offered £20 credit and my services would cost £27.xx pm for 6months and then no further reductions all on a new 12 month contract so have cancelled.

So thanks to the idiot who authorised the increase everyone's bill, they have now lost another customer as I was actually happy at the time with my services until they decided to take the ****.

Talking to Virgin is like talking to a brick wall. I got better chance of negotiating world peace.

With the price inflation every year or so, I find it hard to find a better alternative

They only offered me £26.50 for first 6 months and £29.50 thereafter for 50mb broadband only. I told them that was ridiculous and gave notice to leave. This was after a 45 minute discussion.

Also had no joy with their retentions line in the past.

Bunch of thieves.

I will pay a total of £204 for the year. That is for 100MB broadband and a landline rental that includes no calls. It works out at £17 per month over the year if you want an effective monthly cost.

What they did is credit the full amount of the cost of a landline for a year to your account in month one, then charge you the full amount per month. But because you are in credit by so much you end up not paying anything for about 6 months or so. If that makes sense!

£144 line rental + (12*£5) broadband - £100 credit / 12 months = £8.44 per month.

27 Nov 16 #46
it was a deal on here through USwitch.

You got £50 free, then £50 friend credit.
Pay line Rental up front £144.
12 months BB @£5 per month = £60

I'm in credit with virgin from the £100 credit.

Can you clarify about the upfront with £100 credit? Did you pay the line rental upfront? Did they pay it? And they gave you £100 credit? What is your total per month work out as if you add in the line rental/saver?
weenshukd
26 Nov 16 #23
I have almost the same thing. £17 a month for 100MB BB but the phone is just a line with no call bundle. They credit the full line rental to your account so you don't pay anything for 6 months or whatever. Then you pay full price for the rest of it.

Not some truth, total truth. Just Google it as said. You may or may not be suffering the beginnings of utilisation. Report back in 6-12 months. Posts like yours are really irittating as you have passed judgment without reading the original post. Not everywhere suffers the problem, you don't. A lot of places do. Do your research before commenting..

Have you cancelled? I was at the end of an 18 month contract, spotted BT was cheaper so rang Virgin to cancel, they offered £52 a month so I politely declined and continued with the cancellation and went with BT.
Then 5 days later Virgin rang me back and offered the £25 a month so cancelled my BT order!

26 Nov 16 1 #34
I keep on intending to phone them regarding their price increase. There should be rules stopping the likes of VM, increasing their prices so often. In less than a year my monthly subscription has gone up by £7 a months. And every time the price increases their reliability gets worst.

I'm tempted to move to another provider just to get away from the annual hassle of having to phone them every year to haggle.

It wasn't so much about the money, more about the customer service I experienced. I imagine it's swings and roundabouts, probably just got someone on an off day. But it was enough to put me off. That and Sky's horrendous reputation when it comes to cancellations. The person I spoke to refused to believe I wasn't interested in a TV package.
Breadas
26 Nov 16 #29
That's the same package my nan had, virgin was taking over £48/month from her (without chargeable calls)
Called them up to cancel and the best they would offer for the same bundle as above was £41.99 so you got a good deal as they clearly don't want to do that for everyone...
She is now going to sky fibre for £27.99/month...
(all line rental costs included in above and NO TV at all... Ridiculous prices)

Neither cold or heat added from me as this is purely luck if they'll offer it to you...
cossy3 to Breadas
26 Nov 16 #31
I doubt its luck. They know areas like mine that have no speeds comparable to Virgin so when I call they know there's no competition in speeds to negotiate a good price.
wakeywarrior
26 Nov 16 1 #28
Watch out with Virgin Broadband. In MANY areas they suffer utilisation as they call it. In simple terms this means they have not upgraded the network to cope with capacity, so there are major contention issues at peak times. Because infrastructure upgrades are required it can take years to resolve. But all the while they continue to sell more broadband in the area compounding the problem and selling something they can't hope to deliver. It's a scandal. They get away with it because average Joe doesn't do speed tests and doesn't realise his supposed 200 meg connection is around 20 meg or less peak times. Google 'virgin' and 'utilisation' to see this is widespread. I cancelled after a week and went back to my always 40 meg plus BT. Great if you don't have utilisation issues though. I'd suggest everyone with Virgin speed tests at peak times in the evening or weekend late afternoons/ evenings as if you have utilisation and complain you get credits until it's fixed.

I was going to go for the £15/mo Sky offer but after a phone call with the least helpful customer service representative, I went for Virgin instead.
FrugalFergal to smithmr8
26 Nov 16 1 #27
I had the opposite. I'm a Virgin customer and their retentions department refused to play ball so I'm jumping to sky for their £15/m inc line rental. offer plus £75 prepaid debit card. Surely that is better value than this? Doesn't it work out less than £10/m all in?
ajdajuiceman
26 Nov 16 1 #26
Not true, only correct if there is a standard price increase. An increase due to a discount ending does not mean you will be let out of the contract. Also you cannot cancel anytime only during the specified time on the letter/email. Please be more informed before advising people the wrong information.

Binned them after 4 years of failing to deliver 152Mbps as promised. Switched to Fibre using a BT line and actually getting decent speeds. New ASA rulings means they wont be able to sell up to 200Mbps if a lot of people arent actually getting it as the 10% ruling no longer applies next year.

I recently cancelled the TV aspect of my Virgin contract as retention's weren't playing ball after recent price rises and so signed up to Sky. I signed up for a new phone and Broadband package as I can't live without my 200mb broadband. Got my first months bill only to notice the price was wrong (was overcharged by £1.05). I contacted them via online chat and was told the price I was quoted the week before was still subject to the November price rise. I am trying to decide if I can be bothered complaining for the sake of £12, but very poor practice.
