I love the pictures. Apparently such versatility and yet the best they can come up with is trimming a house plant and opening a bottle. The latter being the most these will ever do.

Also the Climber model at £16.99 is a steal and the Handyman at £30.15 offers bags of functionality whilst being considerably thinner than the Champ.
Classic for £8.99 if you like the mini ones.
These are all at noticeably lower prices than usual.

Don't use the XLT, prefer my Climber and Huntsman.

Had mine since 1981, used it regularly for sea fishing and hasn't been effected by salt water. Broke the saw off dehusking coco-nuts, lost the plastic toothpick and the spring from the scissors, other than that it still does the job.

You can get it repaired for free. Contact Victorinox who will give you a dealer to send it to for repairs. When my became stuck fast and I lost the toothpick and pen they sent a freepost return packet for me to send the item to them and they returned ity within about 5 days all for free with replacement parts.

These things are amazing and last look long. I bought my classic from Switzerland. Many stores engrave your name for free.

1 Dec 16#26
They were available to order (though out of stock) from Amazon, however date stock arrived seems to have progressed from 4th to 8th to 9th as time went on, and now they've stopped offering it for sale.
I picked up a black Swiss champ when it was 42.99. You very quickly get used to the weight of it in your hand, but it is definitely worth investigating in a belt pouch for it as it is quite a weight rattling around in a pocket. I use it all the time. Truth be told I could probably get away with a handyman, but that curiously doesn't have a decent Phillips head screwdriver. I will never use the fish scaler-a second file or saw would make more sense, or something else.
For those wondering of you need the xlt over this, you don't-just buy half a dozen of those poundland precision screwdriver sets which store the bits inside the driver body, and keep one in each toolbox or work bag.

Good price but being honest these SAKs with everything bar the kitchen sink are a silly novelty. Too thick to be usable.
I would get a thinner SAK and compliment it with a larger pliers-style multitool.
m12_shakes
1 Dec 16#30
I've always fancied a Leatherman, I appreciate there are various models from both companies, but in terms of build quality etc, which is better? (Taking into learhermans higher price difference).
Thank you,
doggerthecat to m12_shakes
1 Dec 16#38
The build quality of both is excellent, but I have found that the blade on a SAK keeps an edge longer and is lower maintenance. The pliers on leatherman tools are very good though; my favourite all round pliers I have belong to the skeletool.
Also bear in mind that the vast majority of leatherman tools feature a locking knife blade, which makes them illegal for everyday carry.
Also something to consider when choosing a tool for everyday carry; some knives and tools are legal, but you might have a job persuading your friendly local policeman that this is the case. For example, Lanksy's world-legal knife is perfectly legal to carry, but looks like a big, angry knife. Their Madrock knife is even worse, but again complies with all the regs. Nobody questions a SAK.

I love mine and take it virtually everywhere with me. Has got me out of some bother on a number of occasions.
There are plenty of youtube vids comparing the quality of these with leatherman; they all seem to suggest its quite subjective.
The classic multi tool though is and always will be, the SAK.
This is a good price for now.
It's one of those things you didn't realise you needed until you get it.

oh great thanks op. Received my sak Hiker today (amzn deal for 9.99 few days back). Now I see all these! This Champ looks way overkill though. Main thing I felt lacking on the Hiker was scissors. Now I'm looking at the Huntsman and Handyman which are a whole £18-20 more :S
