All you need is a scoop of olive oil and chips come out perfect, maybe you are using rubbish potatoes, we use King Edwards, lovely and crispy and fluffy

I put a lot of beef fat, salt, pepper and various spices when I cook my chips in this. I don't use it for the healthy function. In fact I'm not sure why I use it over the oven. It does help mix the spices around and the oven takes awhile to heat up.
Honestly though it's a bit useless. The healthy version of the chips taste dull. I haven't cooked anything else in it apart from chips.
It's just very well marketed. It's a large closed in hair dryer essentially. Overall I'd give it 3/10

Anyone who's actually got one can you comment about the paddle inside mashing up the chips / food ?
Few reviews I read said the paddle turns the stuff around inside ends up mashing up fries etc.
Would very much like one as I love the deep fried stuff but the missus won't allow it because it's "unhealthy"

Is this any good for people who don't really eat chips?
I love kitchen gadgets and I cook often, but chips don't usually end up on the menu.
I fry quite often - mainly things like falafel and fritters, but I guess these wouldn't work in here?

Beware if this is a present, because they are a warehouse they send out in the actual box telling the world what it is...including the person that signed for it that it was bought for

Philips does not turn food so only fan assisted oven not fryer. Wastes time and energy opening and turning food.

I'll agree that they're made like junk (we're on our third - but Costco's happy to replace them), but they're much better at frying things than the Philips. Or we'd have given up replacing them by now. Honestly, they're quite fantastic cookers, just fragile as fsck.

most people knocking air fryers have never even owned one in my experience, they give it the old "I just spray hand cut chips with my magic oil and turn them in a normal oven every 6 seconds for 2 hours then perfect chips" when we know no oven chips come even close to the crispy delights you get out of an air fryer!! my top tip....goto chippy..buy bag of chips, leave go cold... fry in an air fryer for 10 min BEST chips youll ever have

The actifry is a fan oven based product not a halogen oven. a halogen oven cooks food by holding a heat source (glorified light bulb) over your food. the actifry blows hot air over the food and rotates the food at the same time to evenly cook it. completely different products, its like comparing an electric oven and a microwave.

I've had 2 Tefal Actifrys the original one which run for just over a year then died i took it apart repaired it and it run another 6 month then motor burned out,
The last one i had is the model prior to this and that worked until just out it's warranty and motor went on that too :disappointed:
Although the Actifry was alright when working I'd never buy anything from Tefal again, I didn't use it loads it basically imo isn't built to last

I too would like to know what halogen cookers folks use.
I understand its the bulb that goes and can be £12 approx so easy to change bulb essential.
My fan assisted oven takes 10 mins to reach 180 degrees - what a waste
Halogen is instantaneous.

What does it say on the box? Fryer or oven? Philips does not do what it says on the tin so very misleading. Plus waste of energy and time. Potentially danger as to open hot food constantly to turn it.
I'm not sold at all.
I have my eye set on a halogen cooker (still undecided which one) that will cook a whole chicken as well as chips.

How does turning the food turn it into a fryer? These are all just compact ovens, really. If you like baked food, great. If you want fried food, fry it.

have used tefal and philips, i'd get the tefal as its bigger and moves the food around so more even cooking.

30 Nov 161#14
Sort of. This is just a halogen with a rotating paddle. For chips and the like the Actifry will cook more evenly albeit more slowly. Main thing is that Actifries tend to die just after the manufacturer's warranty expires as mine did. I just stick to standard halogens now.
