I have this Dell e310dw printer- how come it's not showing the double sided option when I'm ready to print - using a macbook air. can anyone shed some light please.

I have this e310dw which I bought having seen it several times on this site. I use it with a MacBook Air and usually use duplex. If you go in to a File, then Print menu, such as in Pages, it has a simple tick box for two-sided printing. Also prints wirelessly from a iPhone.

It only costs £15 for a year and you get 30 days free which should give you a good idea of whether it'll be value for money or not. Also if you don't save at least the £15 it costs in the first year they'll give you your money back which is something of a guarantee in itself. Seems like a win-win to me.

Setting duplex one / 2 sided is normally done from your print manager options/preferences.
I'm not sure if it can be done in the printer settings. I quite often print duplex.
I've never had a problem waking it up, it normally quietly sits there showing deep sleep. It is directly connected to my networks router.
So far it has been totally reliable with no bad points.

You can buy the cog, to convert the toner that comes with it to one, in which you can refill, with powder.

For crying out loud - it costs less than a round of drinks. If it only lasts 12 months and you have to buy one compatible cartridge at 16.99 its still a bargain. My dell colour one is three years old now, it's never had anything other than compatible carts in it and it's still going strong, never loses the wifi connection and the print quality is great. Just watch, it will die on me now but as it's still the price I paid for it 3 years ago i'd happily buy another

Cheap printers are usually cheap for a reason. Loss leaders manufacturers recoup cost from over priced cartridges. need factor in cost of cartridges when buying . in long run it might work out cheaper buying a more expensive printer if cartridges are less plus get better quality printer with more features. di your homework before buying
rheumatoid to pnaylor39
19 Nov 16#54
They often do but in this case and others you can usually buy compatible cartridges for much less than OEM. £17 for these.

Shouldn't be difficult to get compatible consumables as a lot have been sold so suppliers will keep on supplying until the market dries up.

Printer is cheap but replacement toner for this model is expensive. It looks exactly like a rebranded Brother HL-L2340DW and that is one noisy printer, especially with the constant running fan noise when not printing.
hotchilli to wolfraider

I have a E310dw, the fan does not run continuously and it is not excessively noisy when printing. It's excellent for printing from apple iOS

Yeah because £16.99 for a 2600 page 'replacement' toner is expensive.

I have one, the Dell in the listing, and it's silent when not printing.
dell are discontinuing their printer range. Hence these going cheap. Give it a few years and it'll probably be hard to get the consumables. For £29 though I'd say it hardly matters.

Thanks for the advice. I intend to print documents rather than coloured pictures and short term use. However, given that the HP inkjet printer has the scanning function and the 5 month free ink that's a big plus.... both printers have pros and cons, and they have the same RRP and similar discounted price which makes it a tough choice.

this or the current hottest deal for the ink jet colour printer...can't decide...
daveroy to superivanho
18 Nov 16#48
What you will use the printer for will determine which of the two you should get. Would you have any need to print photographs or anything at all with colour? If so the inkjet is the way to go. With the price of compatible ink being quite low that may be the way to go regardless. If you'd have no need for colour and print a lot of letters, emails or other text then this may be your best bet.

For me it is especially when I used to paying around a tenner for new cartridge. Anyway, the problem about this printer is that it has an annoying fan buzzing when it's not printing and I don't think you can turn it off. So if you like your printer to be quiet I would look elsewhere because i returned mine because of that noise.

Do you know if you can turn auto duplex off? I need it for printing A5 ups and royal mail labels? Does it ever do that sleep thing where you have to turn it off and turn it on again if unused for a while?
Any bad points? Thanks
daveroy
18 Nov 16#41
Well yeah you need to think about running costs when consumables are a factor, but it's the same with any printer so it's not really something that needs a special mention for this deal.
You should also look at getting the most you can for your money with toner (or ink) as well as with the printer itself. Compatibles aren't some shady grey market thing, assuming you have some sense and buy from reputable places. Twice as much for half the price is a no-brainer, especially when we're talking about a lower end black and white printer.

Its a good deal but cheap toner trust me costs you in long run so factor it in.
Dell give you a starter cartridge for reason.
I fix printers and sell them 700 pages at 5% coverage is nothing. Average doc someone prints is around 15% so its actually closer to 250 pages.
Toner is £41 on ebuyer so i purchased that at same time.
Still a good deal for a wireless printer based on a high speed model so will have good internals just factor in atleast 1 cartridge.

£34 for 2 high capacity toners or 16.99 for one. I have a Dell colour wifi laser printer (this one http://www.ebuyer.com/search?q=dell+colour+laser+printer , set of 4 carts around £13) and it's by far the best (and cheapest to run) printer I've ever had. Neither have I ever had a problem with ebuyer

So its a £90 printer once you factor in a toner or £50 if you play russian roulette with toner. A drum is £120 so if your cheapo toner ruins it your screwed drum lasts 12k i think?

So you want to spend more money? I fear this may not be the site for you. And it's hardly Russian roulette as you can get toner cheaper than OEM from very reliable companies. Plus this comes with a 700 page cartridge so it's a £30 printer that works out of the box. There's no requirement to spend more.
