With all of our content mirrored across onto the new PlayStation, we decided to begin our tests by looking at the presentation and performance of existing PS4 titles. Rather famously, Xbox One S features a GPU overclock compared to the standard model, resulting in a small bump to performance that while not essential, is clearly nice to have. When I spoke to Mark Cerny about improved base PS4 performance on Pro, he ruled it out completely pretty quickly and this is borne out by final hardware.
The new Pro GPU shuts down half of its compute units and the rest are downclocked from 911MHz to the standard PS4's 800MHz. We used a Project Cars replay running on both systems to judge performance in like-for-like gaming conditions in a title that stresses both CPU and GPU, and saw totally identical results. Maintaining compatibility is Sony's key aim here, though we would have liked to have seen an option to unlock full Pro performance (or at least the additional clocks) on older PS4 games. There is some precedent here: PS2 introduced additional texture filtering for running PS1 titles via backward compatibility - it was an option, and it was signposted that using the feature was done at the user's risk.

Bit disappointed to read today that the power drops down to match original ps4 for unenhanced games, was hoping was like Xbox one s and to see a small performance boost across most games in terms of improved frame rate. Think Sony has locked this down which doesn't make sense, except for them saying that unenhanced ps4 games would play identically on both machines!

I don't get what Amazon have done. I preordered this deal but also got two codes - one of which is Dishonoured 2.
When I look at the receipt from Amazon the console shows as £314 for the and £38 for the D2. Would I better off returning the bundled D2 and reordering it with the discount code? That makes it £334 for the console with D2.

That's the example that the console manufacturers love to chuck around because they think it excuses their greed and incompetence.
When you buy a phone or a GPU, you know what you're getting into. Those sorts of concerns were never an issue with consoles until they made them an issue.
As it stands, it just means that I won't buy any PS4 games anymore so they've shot themselves in the foot there.

A console is an investment. The only reason to pay over the odds for what is basically a dumb terminal forged from out of date hardware and put up with all that online subscription crap is because you get a guarantee that console will play every game exactly as its meant to be played for at least the next 5 years.
Sony offered that guarantee back in 2013 but this year they've welched on it.
sion22
5 Nov 16#108
"I used to laugh at Apple fans for their gullibility but the way that gamers have just lay back and taken these announcements on the chest this year has really shocked me"
So what statement from Sony you think they are lying about?
"The very existence of this console is a direct insult at the consumer. Both Sony and Microsoft released massively underpowered and ill-thought out machines back in 2013 and now expect the consumer to pay for brand new hardware if they want a decent experience from their next 50 quid game. It's madness and is going to kill the very simplicity that made consoles attractive in the first place. "
Its not possible to build a better machine at that price point back then unless they sold it at a loss. and Sony dont expect you "have" to upgrade, that why they released the Slim ps4. its an option.
also if you think release a more powerful console three year later that in no way affect the experience of original console is an insult then what do you think of yearly mobile phone and graphic card upgrade? how dare they release a more powerful version right.
and judging by you statement you must be pc master race. you say console game is expensive but the only way you can get game cheaper is by grey market reseller with steam price consistently more expensive than console retail copy. but nothing is wrong with that. however unlike PC game, console game has physical copy which has reselling value, and the second hand market. which is why console gaming could be much cheaper than PC gaming ever would. and btw how do you share game between friend? oh right you have to log onto your friends account and you cant be online at the same time even if you not playing the same game. so lets not pretend Steam is the best thing in the world.
btw i normally game on PC and this is my first PS4 which i only got for exclusive

They would say that. They also said 3 years ago that the PS4 was a system truly prepared for the future. I wouldn't believe a word they say, they are liars.

Its on the list but wasn't officially confirmed by Hajime Tabata.
"About the PS4 Pro, it’s basically the same thing about the PC – if we wanted to take full advantage of the new hardware, that would mean putting in much effort and time to make the game look and run better… and time is something we don’t have right now, neither we had foreseen the PS4 Pro’s existence before."
Actually there is. It's on the list of games to get a PS4 Pro patch for enhancements. I would have bought a bundle with this game straight away so I'm also surprised it hasn't appeared yet. There's still time I suppose.

This console will still struggle to hold 60 fps at 1080p in the long term and at upscaled 4k you would be lucky to get a steady 30. But don't worry, they will come out with another one in 2 years, tell everyone that this one was actually crap and people will bring out their wallets in their droves yet again.
djaydearz
4 Nov 16#77
thats good, because the up scaling will be so marginal (for the money spent anyway).
agree with the user above, anyone interested in high 60FPS should invest in a PC really. For me , dont really get the whole FPS conversation for a console. You make it sound like its utter acid in the eyes to play a game at say 30FPS

Phil Spencer said the direct opposite of that this week fortunately.
I honestly cannot understand why anybody would ever want an iterative model like that. It works on phones because phone games/apps usually cost very little and phones are multifunctional and, essentially, far more important devices. For most people now, their smartphone is their best friend. It goes with them everywhere and they use it for pretty much everything. They are also used as a statement of personality and have a style element to their design.
I bought The Last of Us in 2013 and it ran on a console that was released in 2006. If my original 2006 system had still worked at that point then it would have been able to play it as well as any other. Now I am worried about buying Horizon next Easter just in case it runs like a dog dragging it's **** along the carpet on my launch day PS4. To play it the way that the developers intended is going to require me to spend an additional 350 quid on a brand new machine. That kind of arrangement is just not going to help anyone in the long term.

4 Nov 161#66
Pardon me if this sound strong but you dont know what you are talking about, you should do some research before making such a bold statement.
First Pro has double the performance than vanilla ps4, 1.8 compare to 4.1 teraflops. even without 4K TV, Most games can run 60fps instead of the 30 fps, and or a visual enhanced mode with all graphic setting turn up., with limited game running at native 4K such as Last of us, Nioh. so not just "paying for upscaling"
and " limited amount of 4K content out"? if you talking about game then there is 30 game launch with pro patch, and 45 more game by the end of the year.
Even if its upscaled 4K, it will looks much nicer on a 4K than native 1080p ever will, so this is a model to go for if you have 4K TV

I'm not sure this has been confirmed yet. I'd also question whether the Pro could even run all the games at a solid 60fps anyway.

Thought that the £2.00 Prime discount was on all video game pre-orders but it's missing from this. Suppose it's not eligible for video game electricals.
Opening post
You are essentially getting the PS4 Pro for £332.49 and Dishonoured 2 for £20.00
Seems like the best deal so far.

I'm thinking they have been burnt recently with the PSVR & The Xbox One S but they won't get any PS4 Pro's in at that price. (Unless stolen)
We recently sent you an e-mail entitled "Important Information about your Amazon.co.uk order", which contained additional discounts on 2 games, "Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare" & "Dishonored 2".
We noticed that there was incorrect information provided in one line of the email:
"You'll need an Amazon.co.uk account to redeem your discount code and claim your free 'The Last of Us'."
Please note that there is no free 'The Last of Us' with this promotion. The line in the email you received should have read:
"You'll need an Amazon.co.uk account to redeem your discount codes."
We're sorry for any inconvenience caused, and we hope to see you again soon.

presumably, the PS4 pro-D2 is qualified as one purchase, even if you shown 2 different price. meaning the code does not work on D2 bundled. So if you want to use the code, you have to use it on a separate order of D2.
Also I have the game listed as the 10th and console the 11th for delivery when I believe console out on 10th game released the 11th so think they have th wrong way round! Good old amazon!
When I look at the receipt from Amazon the console shows as £314 for the and £38 for the D2. Would I better off returning the bundled D2 and reordering it with the discount code? That makes it £334 for the console with D2.
When you buy a phone or a GPU, you know what you're getting into. Those sorts of concerns were never an issue with consoles until they made them an issue.
As it stands, it just means that I won't buy any PS4 games anymore so they've shot themselves in the foot there.
Sony offered that guarantee back in 2013 but this year they've welched on it.
I just care about the exclusives that I can't get on PC.
I can't play the exclusives on PC though. The boost in performance on consoles should make it bearable for me coming from the PC.
I'm not expecting anything jaw dropping but putting down an extra £100 made sense for me as I'm new to the PS4.
If I wanted to worry about how a game would perform on my system before buying it then I would buy that game for PC. Consoles shouldn't come with those problems. Ever.
Obviously ordered the Pro but when nothing came off i used the help and spoke to them. Came back saying they would refund me £125 on dispatch and I had £9 digital credit. Got that confirmed in an email.
Best thing was Amazon was asking where the credit was from and i was saying I honestly have no idea.
I didn't expect them to honour it.
Best thing for me is Amazon have agreed to refund me £125 on dispatch of the PS4 Pro. But that's a separate issue
"I can confirm that you'll receive a digital copy for the "Last of Us" game. We expect a mail to be sent out for the same as you get charged for the order."
So Dishonoured 2 and a digital copy of The last of Us for £18
So you get a PS4 Pro , Dishonoured 2, CoD and the Last of Us for £384.49.
Even if you sold CoD and Dishonoured 2 this brings the price down of the Ps4 Pro close to the £300 mark with a free copy of The Last of Us !
I am now thinking twice about whether to get a Pro at all to be honest.
"About the PS4 Pro, it’s basically the same thing about the PC – if we wanted to take full advantage of the new hardware, that would mean putting in much effort and time to make the game look and run better… and time is something we don’t have right now, neither we had foreseen the PS4 Pro’s existence before."

agree with the user above, anyone interested in high 60FPS should invest in a PC really. For me , dont really get the whole FPS conversation for a console. You make it sound like its utter acid in the eyes to play a game at say 30FPS

The very existence of this console is a direct insult at the consumer. Both Sony and Microsoft released massively underpowered and ill-thought out machines back in 2013 and now expect the consumer to pay for brand new hardware if they want a decent experience from their next 50 quid game. It's madness and is going to kill the very simplicity that made consoles attractive in the first place.
And this deal has expired by the way.
It's all about the 1080p modes. Supersampling and 60FPS is far more important to me than 4K.
And as predicted they have put the bundle price back up too, £369.99 now so it is significantly more than the console only option. Was a very good price while it lasted but wouldn't recommend it at £370 with black frdiay right around the corner...
Negatives aside, I really hope Sony does well with the Pro - an iterative update to the underpowered PS4 at what seems like a decent price may just work.
you can expect future game and most game out now to have 3 mode, 4K mode, 1080p 60fps mode, and 1080p 30fps ultra setting mode, so yes there is great benefit
Will I see any benefit from a PS4 pro??
Says delivery on the 14th - not too fussed since won't switch it on until I have my new 65" 4k tv installed on the 16th anyway - excited for some uncharted 4 pro 4k action!
However I am waiting until white variant. Happy with Glacier White PS4 for now.
Would be perfect for Christmas if Sony made the PS4 Pro in Glacier White or something aka Arctic White
With no option to obtain a new one.
"We have sold through our allocation of PS4 Pro and will not have any more stock before Christmas.
Orders will be fulfilled in the order they are placed as soon as we receive further stock. This is likely to be early 2017."
It only says that on the vanilla Pro order, not the Dishonored 2 bundle, I'd prepare for disappointment anyway seeing as it's Amazon.
