The boot and rear leg room is huge on these cars, makes them a good option as a family car.
I'm not normally a fan of VAG cars, but the Skoda Rapid / Seat Toledo is under-rated.
The 1.2 Tsi has plenty of power with its turbo charger and gets good fuel economy.
lots of Skoda Rapids being used as taxi's so parts and servicing will not be a problem.

Good time to buy these smaller engined cars now. After the 17 reg you wont get these £0, £20 & £30 a yr road tax anymore, unless you go electric.

I've never seen one of these on the road in 4 years since they were released. Very good cars, far better value and more reliable than their German cousin's.
MaximusRo to djh1975
11 Nov 16#24
They cannot realistically be any more reliable since they are the same cars basically.
If you mean that just because there are far less gadgets and electronic systems on these cheaper models so less to go wrong, yes, but you could end up buying a non-electric windows car to avoid electrical issues etc
i suggest getting the VAG waxed up so the dirt slides off.

Great cars, lovely drive, tons of legroom and a huge boot for their size. Test drove a used one last week and didn't hesitate to snap it up straight away.

I have a few points.
Firstly none of the VAG jokes are funny. None of them.
Secondly they stopped calling themselves VAG over 10 years ago. It's just Volkswagen Group these days.
Thirdly these cars are really not great, the quality of interior is far below any of the other Skoda models and I think a second hand Skoda Yeti would be a far better car in the long run.

Thumbs up on the Yeti comment. The Rapid doesn't get very good reviews but this is still a very good price, so I've voted Hot on this deal.

Well firstly he wasn't being serious and No it doesn't stand for VW Audi Group. It's simply VW Ltd. AG being the German equivalent of our Ltd.
VW owns a lot of brands besides Audi. So no more reason to mention Audi in their name then Skoda, Seat etc.

They share many components but are built in different factories in different countries using different people and different machinery. Of course reliability can differ. Just look at the difference in reliability between VW Amaroks built in Mexico and those built in Hannover for example.

As per comments on a previous Skoda deal , the brand is as toxic as Hillary Clinton , Gerald Ratner , etc.
The brand should have been shut down . Even if they put gold plated fittings in it there is nothing they can do that will get over the publics perception of ridicule towards anyone who drives one.

Yeah, 75,000 cars sold annually in the UK, and the brand that tops both the driver satisfaction and JD Power reliability awards. I hate to be the one to tell you but the World has moved on.
As it happens Skodas never really were that bad. All alloy engines, F2 rally champions numerous times, shame they got lumped in with Lada, they really were crappy.

Uhmm and alot of idiots voted to stay in the EU and alot of patients thought Howard Shipman was a good Doctor , Jimmy Savile was a good fund raiser , and Gary Glitter made good records . Now you don,t see Top of the Pops episodes with Jimmy Savile in them and most radio stations wont play Gary Glitter records . Gerald Ratner jewelry had real gold and diamonds , etc but however much he increased the quality the brand was too toxic to continue.
A car is 4 wheels to get you from a to b , everything else is just ego . It is no different than Jewelry , a watch works but if you put gold and diamonds in they command a premium and if you create an image like Rolex then you can command more.
Skodas are cheaper new than comparables because of their toxic brand name and second hand sales have a more limited market because of their toxic brand name . Volkswagen missed a trick and should have killed off the brand and called it anything else and built up a reputation on that name.

Just so we're straight your argument is that cars are nothing but mere appliances and frippery and badges mean nothing? While at the same time Volkswagen must be commiting financial suicide by selling a brand without cachet? You then somehow bring Brexit into it which I guess explains your disjointed thought process.
Let's consider some of your other points, the ones that don't concern celebrity paedophiles that is.
Volkswagen didn't get to where they are by operating Skoda has a ramshackle operation that would lose them money. It's clear that it's a successful member of their portfolio. I'm sure however if you give Wolfsburg a call and pass on your expertise they'll be incredibly grateful.
Still it's a moot point anyway. Once the pound is worthless after Brexit no one will have any money to buy new cars regardless. But we'll have plenty of sovereignty and control to go around. Whatever they are.

Swings and roundabouts. I've owned a Skoda before VW takeover. The bodywork was terrible. Razor thin sheet metal on the wheel arches that rusted just by looking at it. This was very much improved when VW took over. However they made some puzzling cost cutting measures that appeared to just be an attempt to grab as much money from owners in future. For example. On the old 1.3l Skoda engine the thermostat housing was cast aluminium metal. If the thertmostat failed you needed a new thermostat £5, and a gasket <£1. When the Fabia 1.4l 8v MPI was released based on the same engine, it had a plastic thermostat housing. The problem with this thermostat is it was held in tension against a spring with two plastic prongs. Eventually the plastic breaks up internally, and the whole thing has to be replaced at a cost of £50. And that's the thermostat housing failing, not the thermostat itself.
I personally think Volkswagen have too much brand cachet, and Skoda not enough. But it's clearly VW Group's mission to fill a bit of the market to try justify higher prices for the "better" VWs. We're seeing the exact same thing with Renault bringing out Dacia.

The brand is so "Toxic" (your fave word, eh?) that they are cheap and resale values are poor?
Except of course Skodas have an above average second hand value:
