Been watching this TV for a while and it's the cheapest I've come across so far.

It's certified UHD premium which should give a bit of future proofing.

From the blurb:
Be blown away by the brilliant brightness of Samsung’s Quantum Dot display. Boasting top-shelf HDR, crystal-clear 4K and crisp moth-eye technology, this set’s explosion of colour will change the way you look at your media. Coming with a revamped Smart platform, you’ll enjoy console-less gaming on Playstation Now, control your home through SmartThings and access all the apps you’ll ever need. Finished with a chic branch feet design, the KS7000 is a monument of entertainment technology.

Eye-Popping HDR 1,000
Forays into colour-boosting High Dynamic Range (HDR) have begun, and Samsung are one of the forerunners. As members of the newly-founded UHD Alliance, they've delivered top-of-the-range HDR with a staggering 10-bit colour depth. This means that there are over a billion individual colours to deepen your view and show shades you’ve never seen in home entertainment before. Samsung's HDR 1000, indicating over 1000 nits of shimmering brightness, gives a glorious glow that will knock your socks off. Usually, studios are forced to dilute the colour of their shows and films to fit on our TVs. Now, HDR screens like the KS7000 can channel content from studio-to-living room with the same precision and utterly otherworldly hues.

Razor Sharp 4K
To respond to screens getting bigger, brands have packed their screens with more pixels. This 55-inch screen has four times the number of pixels than 1080p HD TVs, delivering stunning realism, natural motion and incredible detail. Experience this high-spec picture across a range of broadcasts, movies, sports and more thanks to 4K upscaling. As it converts lower resolution content to near-4K quality, anything you watch on the big screen will be truly extraordinary.

Vibrant Quantum Dot SUHD Display
Samsung add even more colour to their HDR and SUHD with a mass of super-tiny nanocrystals that give deeper shades. This tech delivers 30% more colour accuracy and 64 times more gradation to each pixel than standard sets. So, the KS7000 will give your living room an insane lustre that plunges into the delightful depths of every show and movie.

Ultra-Black Moth-Eye Technology
Embrace blacker blacks, whiter whites and an all-round contrast bonanza with Samsung’s new Ultra-Black tech. The KS7000 absorbs natural light in the same way that a moth does to see better at night, so your set won’t suffer from frustrating glare. This way, you won’t need to close your curtains to keep colours sharp. Furthermore, this TV’s Peak Illuminator Pro doubles the depth of blacks of standard 4K, giving your home-viewing premium polish.

I've seen a couple of comments asking about the 3D capabilities of this TV with no responses, and I'm wondering is it because it obviously does not do 3D or that it obviously does.I'm still on plasma HD so have missed everything since, but I read an article about 4k tvs automatically doing 3D due to the number of pixels or something, and they're passive 3D (just need those polarized glasses). Can someone explain what's what pls? Ideally I'd like to get a 4k smart tv to go with Virgin Media's new box (end of month apparently) or Sky Q, but if I can get a smart 4k tv that does 3D as well, even better!

So long as the code is listed on the page and therefore available to all they will match it, which in the case of Reliant it is. With Co-op it isn't.

Cosmetically the ks8000 beats 7000 hands down. Look at the 8000 stand , best one I've seen yet. Also the trim round the edge is better. Another good thing you get a box to plug the wires in now instead of the back of the tv, a lot easier, not sure what year they changed this.

It's not the tv it's sd on all tv's. My tv that has just moved to my bedroom was 1080p. Samsung ju9500 from 2 years ago, the sd on the ks8000 on sky q at 2160p is slightly better than the 1080p sd. I just think sd looks crap on all tv's especially after testing the 4K . Hd should be standard now. The ks8000 is slightly better sd but I still don't like watching it when you know your tv can give a far better picture in hd or 4K. Samsungs are class. 3rd in a row now du8000, ju9500 now ks8000. 40 inch 49 inch then 55inch. Not going any bigger it's huge

All TVs still have problems, OLEDs are far from perfect
if you're not going to use an OLED for static images (like web browsing (address bar) and you dont mind spending another £1000 get the LG C6 (better input lag and has 3D compared to the B6 but has a curved screen) or if you dont like curved screens get the B6

i've been stuck between these and this samsung for a while now but i think i'm going to get the samsung

I watch football on mine, and am overall very happy with it. I don't use the bfi feature as i find it darkens the image, and motion is really good, no banding either which I did have on my old Sony. Only issue as I have is a small stutter that happens every 10/15 mins for literally a second. A bit annoying and read that it is an issue from the 1080i source from sky box. Not an issue with sky q which I will upgrade to soon so not a deal breaker for me.

I'm keen to know about that too as I watch a lot of football. Having read the review on the HDTVTest website I'd say it's best to see one in action. They say it's really good but some people can notice the flicker from the black frame insertion. I didn't want active 3D as I notice the flicker with that so am worried it will be similar for this. Anyway, the review says:

Another aspect where Samsungs generally outperform televisions from other brands is motion clarity, largely thanks to effective black frame insertion (BFI) implementation. We’re happy to see this motion-boosting technology make its way onto an entry-level SUHD TV such as the 49KS7000, helping the display render some of the cleanest and sharpest motion on the market today which will surely please sports fans. In fact, with [LED Clear Motion] enabled, the Samsung UE49KS7000U even beat out other flagship TVs (all calibrated and motion-optimised) in terms of motion sharpness, as you can see for yourself from the following motion pursuit camera tests:

A small group of viewers who are extremely sensitive to flicker may not get on with black frame insertion, even though Samsung’s 2016 iteration produced less flicker than before. For these users, the South Korean company also provides separate deblur and dejudder controls on the KS7000U, allowing the display to attain a motion resolution of 1080 lines or higher (as judged via the horizontally scrolling lines in Chapter 31 of the FPD Benchmark Software disc) without incurring interpolation artefacts or soap opera effect (SOE) in 24p films.

I can assure you i know what i'm talking about and you hit the nail on the head when you quoted 10 bit colour depth this allows manufacturers to attain certification with 8 bit screens albeit using tech in various forms so that the screen can attain the same colour gamut as a 10 bit screen this is often called a 8+2 panel,it is for these reasons the second largest TV manufacturer in the U.S.A refuses to join the alliance as the current criteria does not meet a high enough standard.Just incase you are not aware of the requirements for certification here you are.

Display resolution: minimum of 3840 x 2160 pixels

Color bit depth: 10-bit signal

Color Palette: (Wide Color Gamut)

Signal Input: BT.2020 color representation

Display Reproduction: More than 93% of the DCI P3 color spectrum

High Dynamic Range

SMPTE ST2084 EOTF

Both Peak Brightness and deep black levels of either more than 1000 nits and less than 0.05 nits of black for LCD 4K TVs, OR more than 540 nits of peak brightness and less than 0.0005 nits of black level for OLED 4K TVs.

Please check your info before asserting this false information. 10 bit colour depth is required for UHD Premium. Put simply, UHD Premium guarantees that the tv meets the current set of agreed spec thresholds agreed by major manufacturers to ensure what is currently deemed as a 'proper' HDR picture can be displayed. Here is a brief rundown of UHD Premium

Good review of the 49 inch version here: http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/ue49ks7000-201610234374.htm

Best in Class Award and the following is their summary:

Delivering an image that’s almost as good as the more expensive KS8000 series, the Samsung UE49KS7000 offers exceptional value for money. Among the set’s many strengths, super-low input lag (including in HDR mode) and BFI-enhanced motion clarity are the two which are unrivalled by any other non-Samsung TV (even flagship models).
Given its edge-lit LED configuration, of course the KS7000′s HDR performance wasn’t going to be as compelling as that provided by full-array local dimming (FALD) LCDs or OLED TVs, but then again it’s considerably more affordable. The 49KS7000′s overall picture quality and UHD Premium credentials elevate the display as our number one choice in its price class – it’s a veritable HDR hero.

Really good. I bought one 2 weeks ago, unfortunately at £1299. It is superb. The HDR+ upscalng is fantastic. Even standard definition is watchable without too many artifacts. I'd say it's the best tv I've owned. 10 bit panel, 1000 nits for those interested and HDR10 so you can play with PS4 Pro when it's out (from various forums). From what I've read, HDR10 is a must have for PS4 Pro for the best quality and only a true 10bit panel can support this.

Great TV, had mine almost 4 weeks now. The HDR is superb, loving daredevil on netflix.

Only issue I have is stuttering on normal TV through sky. I have seen on forums that others have similar issues. I believe it is due to 1080i from sky box. Doesn't happen on sky movies though, just things like BBC ITV etc. Have to get sky q as that upscales to 1080p so hopefully sort the issue.

Post # 1128 & 1140 seem to confirm this is a 10 bit panel, although in fairness it did seem to take Samsung a while to give a fully straight answer.

People on AV forums and on here keep posting http://www.displayspecifications.com/en as the source for this set being 8-bit but I wouldn't take anything that site says as gospel, not saying it's not right for a lot of models but it doesn't get it's info from anywhere others can't access.

In fact if you scroll to the bottom of the home page you will see the following message which confirms mistakes could be present on the site:

I own the KS7500 (Curved version of this TV) - very good. Some have had issues with build quality of the plastic back, can't say I have. That aside, the TV itself is very very good. Many make an argument for this being the best value TV to get you into the UHD10 market right now (some say the 8000/8500). You'll need this for the Xbox Scorpio hence why so important for some. The TV recently had UHD Game Mode confirmed also, so you will be able to play the Scorpio or PS4k with low lag and UHD graphics - one of the few TV's at this price point you can do this on.

Highly recommend, and obviously with John Lewis you have that guarantee.

If you get one with a decent panel (AOC VA) then this TV is hard to beat in terms of what it offers for the price.

Good image quality and HDR performance, low input lag which makes it perfect if you're looking for a 4KTV to go with your PS4 Pro, Xbox Scorpio or PC. The only thing that worries me is mentions of poor motion handling, can't see any mentions in professional reviews but John Lewis and some other sites have 1* reviews complaining about judder in all content, regardless of interpolation settings and firmware updates.

For the 8 bit vs 10 bit comments in this thread, this TV is 10 bit.
The USA "KS7000" is 8 bit which is where the confusion is coming from I think. You need to go for a "KS8000" or higher to get 10 bit in the USA.

https://www.avforums.com/threads/samsung-ks7000-ue55ks7000-uhd-4k-tv-review.2032989/page-38

Post # 1128 & 1140 seem to confirm this is a 10 bit panel, although in fairness it did seem to take Samsung a while to give a fully straight answer.

Reading through the thread it seems to be a bit of a lottery on build quality so you must check the back of your set for peeling if you decide to get one (back is attached by double sided tape in places which is causing problems).

Finally people on AV forums and on here keep posting http://www.displayspecifications.com/en as the source for this set being 8-bit but I wouldn't take anything that site says as gospel, not saying it's not right for a lot of models but it doesn't get it's info from anywhere others can't access.

In fact if you scroll to the bottom of the home page you will see the following message which confirms mistakes could be present on the site:

Sadly the stands/feet configuration on 90% of these TVs necessitate further expense of buying a very long cabinet.

It's a pain isn't it ? You can get this sort of thing ... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pro-Signal-Pedestal-Stand-32/dp/B00XJRJFNY ... but it would be better to have a central stand.

But I guess you got a 6 year warranty from Richer Sounds so still not too bad

What's this tv like with motion? In my experience Sony's motionflow is the best.

He means outside the UK. In the US this range is indeed the 8000 model. Worth noting when checking reviews.

Saw this TV in Curry's yesterday. You have to see it to believe the quality. It's just incredible
polarbaba

I did previously look into these and they are called the 8000 series elsewhere. they do appear to be 10 bit
pannan to polarbaba

That's the range up from this
gazman090970 to polarbaba

They are called that here too and you would need to add £500 to the price of this set if you wanted one.

Tip: there are few chances to get £back when shopping at John Lewis online - one for Virgin Atlantic Flying Club members is to go via the VA FC "Shops Away" and get 2 miles per £ (current rate).

And if you read through the thread, you will see the overwhelming majority of evidence points to this being a 10bit panel. Guy in Richer sounds even showed me the spec sheet Samsung had sent out and it clearly stated a 10bit panel.

it's 10bit. 100%
gazman090970

UHD certified does not guarantee a 10 bit panel it only guarantee's the set can accept a 10 bit signal,as for this particular set even on av forums there a some that are saying 8 and some 10 looking at all the evidence I think it's more likely a 8 bit panel than a 10.

in terms of quality.. I was worried about the current new batch of telly's as I have a Panasonic plasma and didn't want to spend a 1000 and get a worse experience!. but the picture on the sony was fine.
wasn't able to see the others.
I did see all the telly's in Costco, which did a very poor job of selecting a SD source and setting the TVs in some awful mode which made all of them look crap.. even the 4000 pound oled TVs!.
so no joy there.

hi chaps

would appreciate your opinions...

looked at a Sony Bravia 55XD8577/8599

around 1000 right now at John Lewis and curry's.

new x1 chip. saw this telly in person and it's pretty good even with SD sources.
so should I also consider this to telly or continue with the Sony?

thanks.

You would be best trying to view them both and having a play. I can vouch that the 7000 is a superb set but no idea how it fares to the Sony.

There is a post on another thread recently regarding the SD on the KS7000 and the person posting said the SD was very dissapointing.

Having a look online, this looks to be an 8-bit panel rather than a 10-bit one. Does anyone have this TV? I'm really tempted but feel like I should go with Sony 55XD9305 instead.
pannan to professor936

Yes, 10bit confirmed as it UHD certified. Great picture quality but software very buggy and annoying. Samsung support next to useless as well. Good price though as paid 100 squid more from Richer last month.

1 Nov 16 #11
It's a 10-bit panel.

Had mine for about a month and it's fantastic just be aware that build quality can be a bit hit and miss. The rear panel can detach it took me three to get a good one but it's well worth it as the picture is stunning.

Many thanks Craigarthur

I was also following this & a few alternatives with a view to ordering on Black Friday.

Now ordered, still more than 10 in stock .

Will also check if price drops again - not sure it will.

Good, 10 bit means real hdr.
Va lcd means better contrast than an ips lcd.

If you need better viewing angles then look for ips lcd, but contrast will not be as good

Amazing price really for what you get.

I bet Richer sounds will match as well for an additional year of Warranty.

I'm holding out until the new year personally, when I can release a bit of capital for a new TV. This is the baby i'm after! Or KS8000 if it can be achieved at the same/similar price!
