I'm inclined to agree, just reading a review of this particular card suggests the single fan is 'loud under load', which for me is a high priority.

Very tempted - currently got a GTX 660 and it's showing it's age, looking for a good 1080p card that will last a few years

Good deal. Now in-stock on the 25th November however.
Bought one to replace the HD7870 that is now getting a bit long in the tooth...

this or a 970?

This. 970 is old news.
DX12 support and driver optimisation will continue to be a thing for some time.

This all the way, 970 performance is below this even with matured drivers, also not mention the lack of Vram (3.5GB lol). 470s drivers will mature overtime thus bringing performance up.

Nice card for the price, Only about 10% less performance than a 1060 6GB and on par with the 3GB version for a cheap price.

Not in the same price segment. This is only marginally slower but a lot cheaper

True but I would rather fork out an extra 50 to 70 quid just because of lower PSU requirements, and quite better fps in new titles

If you can have £50 extra spare I would suggest you try to get this model only, due to the modifications you can get it on par with a 8GB 480

Hey would this also be the case with a Sapphire AMD Radeon R9 Fury Tri-X 4 GB?

AMD Fury > RX 470/480, GTX 1060 6GB.

I wouldn't buy this particular RX 470. Not with that cooler.

Fury is a completely different beast and sits somewhere between the 1060 and 1070.

sorry wasnt a fury it was a Sapphire AMD Radeon R9 290X Tri-X OC Graphics Card (4GB, GDDR5, PCI Express 3.0. I found one on warehouse for £140 then thought...na. Seems over priced on ebay.
I have this exact card, bought it pretty close to release, so far I'm liking it, I don't notice any noise from it but then that's probably because I have large case fans which drown it out. Performance is great so far, manages 1080p at 60 or 75 fps at ultra/max settings in everything I've tried so far. Only slight downside is after an extended gaming session the card gets fairly hot, sometimes pushing temperatures in the high seventies, which seems high compared to the rest of my PC.
This is a great gpu, and in my opinion this sapphire version is a great card, but if you want something a little cooler then maybe go aftermarket

now says 3 dec delivery. how reliable are their estimates? stuck between this and r9 290 on ebay for 140 (rejected my 110 bid) or rx 480 8gb for 220?
Axino to jameshothothot
23 Nov 161#33
In my experience they usually deliver ahead of estimates.
The RX480 is 46% more expensive. It only gives about 10-15% better performance.
The R9 290 is supposed to be a bit better than the 470, but it's old architecture, and uses more power, say an extra £10 per year you have the card.
I've went for this 470. I plan to undervolt it, to keep it cool and quiet. undervolt
