Totally agree. If a person's parenting skills are so limited all they do is threaten children into compliance, they shouldn't have any. Grim medieval parenting.

just some extra motivation. Rather judgemental of parenting skills I admire anyone looking for a better approach to the previous generations hitting kids to keep them in line. All children are individuals as are the parents personalities. If it is good for some and not for others so be it but it is value for money we are voting on. It certainly is that.

I'd like to think the kids using the web & being warned about web cams are old enough to know the truth re santa. Either that your comment has opened up a can of worms for another debate!
Perhaps u should think before u pass comment & make judgment on who can & cannot be a parent.

So where does this fit into the narrative you tell your kids regarding online safety and to never use web cams?. If then you show them this camera that will be monitored by some old man with a beard who is watching them to see if they are naughty or nice and will give them gifts if they are nice, then maybe having offspring was not your smartest move.

Honestly I come on HotDeals looking for Cyber Monday deals and find some cracking debates.

Somebody posts a £1 deal on a Santa Cam - Another user is offended, and passionately describes the idea of it being parenting.

I love humans. Some people just can't get a grip, and its hilarious.

Heat added - I don't have kids, but more to the point, I'm sure it won't be cheaper anywhere else.

Don't confuse the legend of Santa with a fake web cam. I must have missed the part of the Saint Nicholas legend where he placed techno-surveillance devices in Christian homes. Must be a dystopian version of Christmas written by Philip K Dick.

I asked for the alternative uses other than convincing people they are being watched. Do you have any?
joanddan7

It truly is a twisted world if the only use of the Santa legend and Christmas is to make children believe they are being watched in a evil and twisted way.

I am genuinely perplexed by the thought that some people find this entertaining. This is just weird.

Furthermore I can only assume it's quite damaging to a child to barter with them into good behaviour via the threat of losing presents rather than instilling the inherent understanding that it's a positive trait to be well behaved regardless of reward.

I'm quite disheartened that people find this funny!

joanddan7
28 Nov 16 4 #103
But its not a webcam...

its your preconceptions that have turned this evil. Its a xmas decoration and doesn't need to be a "behave you wont get something" tool - your twisted outlook on society has made you leap to that place.

Some of us have fun at xmas and don't feel the need to make everything about the ills of society...

I love how people feel the need to preach their self-imagined social and parenting principles when this is clearly a joke product with zero actual consequence. The same people who, when confronted with a 'knock knock' joke will say "well some people are homeless and don't have a door. How insensitive blah blah blah."

For the sake of the future of humanity, get a grip and recognise context instead of commenting on the worst possible scenario all the time.

Neither is a naughty step with nothing to get their hands on lol naughty steps work as long as you are communicating not screaming and shout and dragging them to it.

3 strikes rule always works if you are consistent, 1 ask, 2 tell them you are asking again, 3 politely ask again but be firm the Tv/phone/games console/whatever will temporarily revoked if failure occurs - a lot of adults need to pull their own behaviour up before they even attempt to successfully do their own kids.

Some people really need to get a life.

This is a great idea for the people who think it is suitable for their kids. It's not for everyone as it may scare some children or have a negative effect depending on their age and disposition etc. Most parents know their own children to make the decision themselves.

To say it is bad parenting is just ignorant and condescending.

I think it's a great idea.

None should have child tax credits either, a modern draconian Labour state aid for those that cant afford children, you lift children and adults out of poverty with great free education ofall ages and school childcare via clubs so parents they can work their ass off for their kids and not be penalised for overtime past 16 hours & minimum wage subsidising corporations, how hard is it to nationalise housing for £100 a month to maintain property with a hour of national minimum wage towards admin costs ?

Labour or the Tories will never undue the many many many many decades of damage, just add pla$terS.

I've still to meet a parent who gets CTC who spends every penny on their kids. its not for mortgages, rent, junk, council tax, junk food & nights out, designer clothes It is for your child physical and mental development. Thats why its CHILD Tax Credit, not ADULTS, not PARENT allowance.

You are meant to pay for everything by budgeting out your wages as a adult not raid a childs yearly development trust fund.

I agree too - totally unnecessary. For years I've told my kids that if they misbehave I'll be sitting and waiting for Santa and his reindeer on Christmas Eve ready with my 12-bore to blast them all outta the night sky. Hasn't failed to work and my kids get very excited Christmas Eve - so much so they're visibly shaking and crying with excitement when they go to bed.

I tend to talk to them. Explain why they were wrong to do what they did and explain why things would work better if they did the right thing instead. In extreme cases a privilege may be removed. What I don't do is tell then in advance that they'd better behave or they'll miss out on something that THEY DEFINITELY WON'T, if you make a threat of punishment you must be prepared to carry it through. Are there any parents who have this thing and are prepared to issue no gifts come Christmas?

So how do you teach a child to behave?all you say is that's it is important that they do.

You could say that teaching a child in any kind of way is a threat as normally you point out there is consequences to bad behaviour,be it sitting on the naughty step, not getting something they want, detention at school, sent to their bedroom.

Totally agree. If a person's parenting skills are so limited all they do is threaten children into compliance, they shouldn't have any. Grim medieval parenting.

I can tell you're the cheery type I should be learning from. Nothing screams "happy go lucky" more than bypassing a swear filter to cause offence.

Nice. Always told the kids the red light on the movement detector meant Santa was watching-will add this to it.
