Digital Foundry mentioned the KU series Samsung tv's in a YouTube video yesterday. I'm sure they said that although they state HDR, they are only 8 bit panels with post processing applied. They said to turn HDR off on the panel as it was detrimental to the image. still a very good price for a 4k 60 inch TV though.

I assume the model number is unique to Currys/PCworld..... anyone know what model this is?

Is it the 6000?

Correct. The KU6000 is HDR compatible but is still an 8 bit panel.

They're also prone to motion judder. And don't have the best viewing angles. But then, that's because they're bottom of their range (it's all relative). It's a lot of TV for the money, but I'm super-sensitive to ANY motion blur (it annoys me on better quality panels than this), so it wouldn't be one for me.

(If anyone is wondering about the difference post-processed HDR vs true HDR makes, a guy who has access to both summarises it pretty well here. He's talking specifically about Samsung 6000 vs 8000 models so it's very relevant here. You gets what you pays for ....)

I got the 50 inch 5 days ago for £449

the only difference between KU6000 vs KU6020 is the tv stand and Bluetooth capability on the KU6020 (Although I haven't check this properly as I got it for my parents)
iz123456789
29 Nov 16 #8
This should be priced between £500 to £600 MAX!

and using the CE30 getting it for £570 would of been heat!

I'd say wait. Black Friday, and Cyber Monday/week sucks this year.

Maybe boxing day/January sales?

60" = £599

look and study the numbers it make sense!

30 Nov 16 #15
You're just missing some simple economics in your calculations. 60" is a massive screen in low demand and production compared to the 50". This is an incredibly low price for this size and spec TV. I'd prefer a 10 bit panel but then you'll probably pay double.

Paid a touch under £530 delivered for the 55" with code MVC50

As a poster suggested above, Black Friday/CM this year were a cop out. Seems to me that all the big retailers believe sticking a black tag on and making up bogus discounts using old prices and RRP values is enough to get everyone losing their minds and spending more on TVs they could have picked up days/months ago at even cheaper prices. Madness. Give me a discount code and a better price any day of the year over a fake Black Friday bonanza deals.

Remember people, in a couple of months, all of what's on offer now will be last years models. Stick that in the Black Friday pipe and smoke it.
sancheez to Jsasnn
30 Nov 16 1 #26
You've only just noticed?!?!?

Like any sale, it's just a way to try and offload a lot of the junk they couldn't sell otherwise. Yeah, they'll have a handful of genuinely good headline grabber deals to suck people in, but there won't be many available, and only the lucky few will get those. Then they just hope the rest buy some of the rubbish.

This is hardly a new approach. And the bogus RRP stuff has been an Amazon staple for ages. Show the RRP. Show the "lightning" price as a 70% reduction on RRP. Neglect to mention that they always sold it at 60% reduction on RRP anyway. Watch the fools hoover them all up thinking they're getting a bargain ....

With the tech changing/up in the air the way it is, it's a minefield for sure. Am upgrading from a 50" panni plasma, needing a second tv mainly. Checked all kinds of models and went for this at 55" for price sake in the end.

Plasma to go upstairs, 6020 will take place downstairs, and sometime next year when the dust settles I'll be looking to do the same again with a better model however the plasma will then be headed for the bin !

Co op electrical for code MVC50. Available till end of play today. Best I could find. Cash back was another option but the "may" pay was enough to have me looking at garunteed alternatives.

Personally I would buy a UE49KS7000 for £799 albeit a smaller screen. 10 bit panel for 'full' HDR, great reviews.

decided i'm going to wait for the 7 series Samsung, it seems like it's the only way to know you cover all the bases, HDR,UHD premium, 10 bit etc etc all the different jargon. The 6 series isn't 10bit, doesn't have UHD premium capability, it seems to be half way there but if i'm going to splash out on a 60"+ tv i'd rather just get one that covers all the bases.

I think i'd choose the 55" 7 series over the 60" 6 series, the 55" being about £100 more, although I must say I thought a 70" Samsung for £1244 seemed like a good deal, but I held off

30 Nov 16 1 #29
All the current gear below the KS7000 is junk the further you go into it, and even that raises a couple of questions. I'd have expected them to have made more of an effort lol. Looks like they're going to have a lot of stock they failed to get rid of when the new stuff comes out. I thought that was what Black Friday was all about

Care to elaborate ? Genuinely interested and not seen any kind of reference to this although can see that the B650 got good reviews same as this TV does. Don't take 'good' as fantastic ! Am aware it's a cheap TV in comparison to 10bit/Full HDR ect and assume that it's still a better purchase than going the RGBW route.

Basically Samsung are just licensing their brand name for this specific Currys model.
Similar situation with Kenwood yeas ago.
The B650 wasn't "bad", true, but having owned it for years it was clear after a few days that this wasn't a Samsung LCD as an example.

Just putting it out there that this is a budget 4K TV no better than Hisense/etc.

Thanks. Good to be aware of all details.

Could play upset however I only paid £530 for the 55" version from co op so still feel I got good value out of it (doesn't arrive till Saturday). The quality should be enough to justify the price I paid and at least it's 4K rather than RGBW 3K. Haha. For me it ended between the UE55KU6020 at £530 and the 55UH750v!! at £650. VA vs IPS - RGB vs RGBW. Pretty sure I made the right choice for now.

These boards are a great source of information.
From my interpretation literally everything below KS7000 ticks some but not all boxes and varies depending on brand.

If they'd have dropped the KS7000 down to the £700-£800 price point on 55" like many others I'd have not given it a second thought, however at around the £900+ it just wasn't enough to promote the buy it button. Perhaps next year

It's surely a win win.
There's no "pressure". All parties are hardly against churning out a cheaper product that dupes as many people as possible with the benefit of it not being entitled to any price match policy.

3 Dec 16 #50
This TV has HDR in the menus but it can't do HDR properly due to having an 8 bit panel. If you switch HDR on, on this TV it makes the source material look like it was recorded on a cheap video camera. HDR is over used on all these TV deals.

10 bit panel
HDR10 or Dobly Vision

If the TV can't do the above and the one in this deal can't, then HDR is meaningless.

I'd think they're less likely to price match over lack of extended warranty vs slight change in numbers. The 6020 isn't exclusive to currys.

Got the tv now, up and installed. Can't fault it really especially at the better price I paid.

All in all a good budget set, yes this model does have motion blur/judder issues, initially very obvious on football, although managed to pretty much completely eliminate it using settings found on YouTube for both movie mode and game mode. Not connected the shield up yet due to needing a fire stick to palm off on the missus (lol) but that'll be the true test. No rush as still waiting on a hdmi/av trunking delivery but so far so good.
