Info On TV

Quantum Dot Colour

The SUHD TV features a Quantum Dot Display which expresses a wide range of over 1 billion colours to create true-to-life images. When compared to conventional Ultra High Definition TVs which are capable of producing 17 million colours, it is clear to see that the UE55KS7000 offers amazing picture quality.

HDR 1000

With HDR 1000, the 55KS7000 provides a superior High Dynamic Range for impressive brightness, incredibly detailed shadows and vivid colours. All of these features combine to allow you to experience the next generation of premium mastered quality.

SUHD Remastering Engine

By analysing the content coming into the TV and the source it came from, the KS7000 is capable of upscaling pictures as close to HDR picture quality as possible, allowing to enjoy all manner of entertainment in amazing detail.

Smart Hub

You can quickly and easily access smart content from the Smart Hub home screen, offering you access to catch-up TV services and 4k streaming from Netflix and Amazon Prime. To enhance your viewing pleasure, you can explore the smart content without interrupting what you are currently watching.

There is also the option to access a range of video games without the need for a console. Instead, you can explore Cloud Gaming, playing ultra-high definition games directly through your TV.

I purchased this TV when it launched and love it. Great balance of features and price. Only 1 slight drawback i've found is that viewing in low light can sometimes show the backlight bands when they're trying to light a bright object in the middle of the screen on a dark background i.e. the playstation 4 logo on the startup screen - doesn't bother me though. Great deal.

great price. Bought Panasonic 50DX750 few weeks ago in John lewis for 699 (used equipent) and 5 year warranty. One of the guys there who was working for LG brand, said that they did a test on HDR 8bit panel vs10 bit panel and couldnt see the difference. Sub £800? What you smoking? I very much doubt it, this TV has already jumped down from £1400 to £1000 in the space of a couple of months. With the £100 price drop today, it makes it very unlikely to drop at all on Black Friday.
slannmage
10 Nov 16 1 #57
I've done a ton of research and this is the best TV you can get in the price range, nothing else comes close. It's especially good for HDR gaming since the latency is so low, it's a true 10bit panel and the HDR performance is great. The local dimming isn't great, but the black levels are good enough and you cannot get good local dimming on an LCD right now. Obviously OLED will perform better there, but black levels aren't everything and OLED has a whole host of problems that no one seems to go on about... the main ones being how OLED fades quite quickly and suffers from burn in like plasma.

The only other cheaper option is the Sony Bravia KD43XD8077... but that's if you want a smaller TV.
dannyjones106

I picked mine up yesterday, looks like I got a decent one. The back panel is firmly attached and the light bleed is minimal. If you are to get one, make sure you check it out thoroughly.

As slannmage says, there really are no other options right now but the KS7000 range for HDR gaming with excellent response times. I will be holding on to this TV until OLED technology matures (faster response times!) and drops in price.

It's a stunning TV, Netflix 4K looks incredible!

10 Nov 16 1 #75
When I ordered it on Monday I did a collect at store at the then full £1099 price and then just asked about the £30 code (which was on at the time) when I went in, they were fine and they took that off at the till. They seem to have a sheet of codes next to the tills they just scan.

The KS7000 code is a bit weird though as it says it gives you free delivery and installation and then just says -£45, so they might not be so happy to do it, they took a bit of persuasion today, but did do it eventually when we argued we could just order a fresh one at the cheaper and return it to the store using the original reciept.

The TV is superb though, only negative really is the legs as they are crazy far apart, which means you need a massive cabinet etc. to put it on.
dannyjones106
10 Nov 16 #76
You've gotten yourself a great deal there! I don't think there's any way the branch I bought it from would have let me have it for £954...well done for calling their bluff though!

10 Nov 16 #77
Hi You are not able to do this for collection in store. However take your transaction online all the way through to final purchase and take a picture / screen shot then take copy to store and they may let you take one .
Currys have made a small error in the coupon code allowing this to be deducted without adding free delivery/installation.
Now that most stores have a price of £999 I can see that you may be able to get a further discount of 10% on Black Friday / Cyber Monday however the price has dropped to a very good buy it now price !

Most of the new 8 bit TV's have 10 bit dithering so to all intents and purposes are 10 bit capable. I highly doubt if you had an 8 bit and a 10 bit TV side by side you could tell the difference or see the extra millions of colours ...

11 Nov 16 #91
First of all you need to ask yourself if you are going to be watching any 4K content in the next few years, and then you need to ask if you are a hardcore gamer.

If you simply want to watch 1080p movies and sport then it is a no-brainer to go for the OLED.

Was seriously considering this, but I've read various bad reviews (mainly on John Lewis) mentioning this set suffers from distracting juddering. Anyone with any comments to confirm or dispel these bad reviews?
leemh24
13 Nov 16 #104
Yes we are putting it on a cabinet. The ones mounted in the shop looked more than comfortable on the wall so can't see why they wouldn't in your home.

As for the reviews I didn't read any before purchasing because it wasn't the TV I originally went into get. The demo video just blew me away compared to the flat version and luckily they had a Samsung representative in store who pretty much said it's a no brainer if we had £300 extra to spend.

As for being any cheaper on black friday they said no chance on either tv but if there was a difference they would price match.

All SUHD TVs are Ultra HD Certified and are able to show DCI-P3 cinema colur, 1000nits peak brightnes and be 10 Bit panels able to not only read HDR signals but show 1 billion shades of colur as opposed to around 17 milion shades for 8 Bit panels.

DOLBY VISION VS HDR 10 – WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
The main specification differences are that masters of movies are done at 12-bit, rather than HDR 10’s 10 bits. Also, peak brightness can go – in theory, at least – right up to 10,000 lumens. In reality, most Dolby Vision masters seem to be targeting 4,000 nits – which remains a very big step up from the 1,000 nits that HDR 10 masters work to.

But most significant is how Dolby Vision uses frame-by-frame metadata to manage HDR performance. This helps to deliver the best results as it adapts the source material to the performance of your TV.

Read more at http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/should-you-next-tv-have-dolby-vision#5IhmuUCR11MygGov.99
This is why Dolby Vision requires extra hardware, and why HDR 10 / Ultra HD Premium will be more prevalent, but the Dolby argument is this hardware will deliver better picture quality.

Of course, this also means any players you use must support Dolby Vision as well. As yet, the two Ultra HD Blu-ray players announced by Sony and Panasonic don’t, but presumably LG must have a Dolby Vision player in the works to go with its TVs.

And, in case you were concerned, anything that supports Dolby Vision supports HDR 10 by default, it just doesn’t work in the reverse.

I'm confused! So how can some of the LG sets can be labelled as Dolby vision yet only have 8-bit panels?
paperboy2
14 Nov 16 #117
LG have to pay to use the Dolby Vision logo.

There are no 12 bit TVs at the moment and no TV has gone beyond 1400 nits at the moment.

In fact there is a new standard that's even better called Paperboy2ProVisual. 16 Bit colour. 9,900 nits and Rec2037 coloyr standard. Fee for using the Paperboy2 logo is negotiable.

Lots of good reviews too,I've no idea what people are talking about in a couple of reviews regarding stutter,we haven't had that problem.

Been to look at this today and the wife prefers the curved version - KS7500 - so now I need to keep an eye on that one!

LG OLED isn't without it's flaws. Higher Input lag on HDR mode might be a deal breaker, especially considering how low input lag is on this model.

Saw KS7000 and KS8000 49" models in Currys today . Both have their back panel bit bendy and not attached to the screen fully.
Not sure to buy this now as I am scared to wall mount with kids running around all the time beneath it.
Even getting a proper one , does not guarantee if it will stay in tact always. Looks back panel is flimsy ?

What is the difference between the KS7000 & KS8000??

I would watch out for their KNOWHOW service though, we're on our eighth repair on a Samsung TV purchased 18months ago, and refuse to replace stating their conditions say they can repair until they decide to replace.. Huge problems each time it comes back.

That said, no idea about this TV

The TV is awesome... apart from .... ive noticed when watching 'The Grand Tour' on amazon prime, the studio footage looks pretty bad with whites blown out and over saturated faces.... then sometimes when the cars are going around the track on the edges of the screen you can see tyre marks flickering up from other parts of the screen which is really annoying..... just wondered if anyone else had this issue? only got the TV last wednesday so wondered if i should get an exchange ASAP? or if its possibly a streaming / amazon prime issue.... my broadband is high speed fibre. Netflix HD looked pretty good, but again, high speed motion didnt look too clever.

Well spotted. When I was in store last weekend I got offered free installation which they said was also if I wanted it wall mounting. Has anyone else been offered this ?

Just rang and got the £20 refunded, paid £999 on the 9th, but it was delivered last Monday so they gave back the £20.

I am loving this TV so far, and not sure if the previous comment about the Grand Tour means your set is duff, as when I watched it in HDR it was flawless!

This is down to £949 now. Bought it the other day for £979 so I am returning to the shop today to ask them to honour their price promise.
