Hi guys

My first deal here, I was in my O2 shop today and saw that the Galaxy A3 2016 Edition has been slashed on Refresh Device plan prices.

Either pay £69.99 up front and then £2 a month or £0 up front and £5 a month.

A fantastic price for a great mid range handset given on PAYG its £209.99!

Available in Black or Gold and of course for those only interested in the device you can pay off the device plan and cancel the air time as per previous refresh deals.

Unlike previous refresh deals this is available on any tariff!

I found this info on another deal. I think this is what they mean.
1) Follow the get deal button, purchase the GB and tarriff

2) Receive your brand new phone and sim card.

3) Put the sim card into your phone and go onto myO2 (app or website) and from there request the unlock code.

4) Call 202 from the same sim card as it will make things much easier, go straight to the I want to leave o2 department or something like that (I think it's thinking of leaving us? Press something) as that will connect you with the right people much quicker.

5) Tell the person you want to pay your device in full and cancel the airtime. They will ask you why, tell them you don't think the airtime is a good value for money, but you want to keep the phone because you think it's an outstanding value for money. They will ask you for card details, you tell those details and that's it, they cancel it for you in about an hour.

6) You own the phone from that point, assumed that you have done this straightaway, there won't be any charges, otherwise you will have to pay as much airtime as you have used.

7) Unlock code will come through in about 2 to 48 hours.

:sunglasses: In first month they might take the airtime from your bank account through direct debit because they generate the bill the next day you apply for a contract, don't be scared as this will be refunded the next month, if not, call them again.

Pick any tariff with nothing up front, buy it as you would a contract then ring up O2 to cancel the air time and all you have to pay is the Device plan which would be 24x£5 in this case.

Also, the £129 refurbs are the older a3 4.5" editions not the 2016 4.7" one in this deal. Refurbs for the 2016 4.7" editon are £159.

Guys, just be aware with these refresh deals - the first monthly airtime payment is automatically billed & usually taken from your account. But don't worry, as it will also be automatically refunded in 1-2 weeks. But, on the odd occasion the latter fails to happen, so you will need to chase them for a refund & also make sure the direct debit is properly cancelled at their end.

Also worth reading about credit checks for these types of deals: Beware split tariff mobile contracts if you're about to apply for credit. This happens even if you pay in full when the phone arrives & they cancel the airtime contract - as you're doing it in this method.
tazg101
13 Nov 16 #29
Sorry I'm being stupid here. I don't understand how these o2 refresh deals work.

Do I set up the contract and only have to pay the phone off? Is the airtime ignored then?
Mermoo to tazg101
13 Nov 16 #30
Buy the phone on handset+airtime refresh contract, request unlocking code online, call customer services-request airtime cancellation and to pay off handset=get handset for £120

okay, that sounds good. So I don't have to pay off the airtime .. just the handset?

Stupid question but do you have to put the sim card in the phone to get the unlock code via the app and call customer services or could you put this into a different unlocked phone and do it from there. another newb to this refresh gig, cant believe how good this deal is but can see y'all saying its a goer so can you also tell me if store collection complicates matters?? as it would be a present I don't really want it delivered at home...
also is bying two at the same time asking for trouble? and or one after the first is cancelled? is it likely to show as a marker for abuse or something on account? I've waited in case I get a package deal friday but want this particular phone for one of the two i need anyway ...

I've done it now, what I didn't realise is that if you press the blue 'i' it tells you about the handset cost upon cancellation. I have dyslexia and missed the comment that tells you about this... I was too focused on the excellent step by step guide.

The app kept telling me it couldn't provide the information at the moment, so I've just completed the form link above (thanks).

I submitted for the unlock on Wednesday, got a text saying 'no can do, see the email'. The email said they couldn't confirm me from the details I gave. I guess I got the password wrong.

I've tried again today, but said I don't recall my password and it then asks when your last bill was. I'm not sure I've had one! I think I got one of the 24th, so put that. I'll probably just call during the week.

Do you have to get the unlock before you give your notice to cancel and pay off the contract?
Eg.
If you've submitted it online and pay off the device and cancel.... Will they still give it to you or will they chase it up if you're no longer technically a customer?

Also
How long does an unlatch / unlocking request last. Im going to give the phone as a xmas present. can i leave it sealed until then and then use the number?

30 Nov 16 #82
I?m sorry, we have not been able to provide you with unlatching code for
your device at this time as it has been requested from manufacturer. It
will be sent as soon as we receive it, this can take up to 10 working
days.

is what i got when i did the unlock, both by o2 site and by speaking to a live chat advisor. The way i see it, the longer you let the contract run, the more they charge you pro-rata so if its being longed out by o2, you may as well just cancel, cut the loss (and stress ) of a free code and try and find a local shop or online site that does it for cheap

Called on the SIM, this time it asked me what I wanted to do, I said cancel and was almost instantly connected to someone. I said actually maybe the 300mb wasn't as useful as I thought, he asked about what I wanted (as in he would offer me something) so I explained that maybe I didn't actually want a second SIM. He then took payment and processed the cancellation. All took 7 minutes.

Collected phone on Thursday from O2 shop. Installed O2 App and tried to do request phone unlock but it said currently not available. Tried again today and same thing. Tried O2 website, but again said unlock was not possible.

Haven't done the cancellation yet, will call them on Monday to do that.

Did you not have to give the IMEI number when requesting the unlocking?

Normally the best way to get this is to turn on the phone and type in *#06# and it wil display the IMEI number.
