Anyone had a refund yet? Logging into website shows subscription ending one month after current subscription ended - but Android and Windows apps shoe subscription running until April 2018. Didn't get an e-mail either.

My refunds came through pretty quickly. You should contact them if they haven't given you those extras months for £1 but you have paid.

The same here, never heard of them and would have never paid £8 a month, but now I've tried it and seen how many magazines are available I think I'll continue my subscription at the full price. I've even bought a bigger tablet to read them on.

I'd never heard of readly before - must have been living in a cave. This glitch has actually gained them a new customer. It's a great service with most of the mags I read. Not sure anything can replace reading a proper mag or going home and seeing your new episode on the doorstep.

Thanks OP

Everybody, sad news, the dream (of years of bargain priced reading) is officially over, I just received this:

"Thank you for subscribing to Readly!

We’ve recently sent out the Black Friday £1 offer to our customers. Unfortunately there was a technical glitch within our system which means that some of our customers were able to redeem the offer more than once.

We’d like to sincerely thank those of you who reported the issue and we’re pleased to inform you that this has now been fixed.

As the £1 offer only applies to your first month, as stated clearly when you took up the offer, the standard subscription fee of £7.99 per month will apply at the end of your first month. If you do not wish to continue your subscription at £7.99 a month, you can of course cancel your subscription at anytime before the end of your first month. However most of our customers would agree that Readly represents excellent value at £7.99 a month and we hope you’ll continue your subscription with us.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and will be issuing the refunds on all additional transactions that you have made to your original payment method as soon as possible. Please note that the refund may take up to 7 days.

Finally, we would like to thank you for your understanding and we really appreciate your help in ensuring that we can continue to offer the best service and great value to all Readly customers.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any question or feedback.

Kindest Regards,"

Refunds incoming, would have been nice but not to be, make sure you all cancel before the first months up!

We found the magazines difficult to read. The Android and Windows interfaces aren't overly well written (one of them only allows two zoom levels), and even with large screens we couldn't find a way of getting an entire page on the screen comfortably. This was particularly relevant for my wife as she was primarily interested in the cross stitch magazines (which are not the sort of thing you read like a book). My preference was for the 'mechanics' magazines, but then I realised my typical reading locations (either in the garage or on the throne) aren't overly compatible with electronic devices.

I can definitely see a market for it, just not for us.

I have this and pay £7.99 a month well worth it as two mag would cost that and my wife and kids can download there own magazines to read offline so if going on holiday dowload the magazines so if no,wifi you can still read them just done 4 months for £1 worth a try

Anyone paying with PayPal note that it sets up a recurring payment entry for each time you repeat this. God knows what would happen if you left this to rollover into a chargeable period. Suggest everyone cancels at least all but one of these in the 'My pre-approved payments' section....

That's odd, just checked mine and they're all down as "Payments" not "Pre-approved payments"

Thanks OP - have had Readly on and off since it started up but couldn't justify £10/ £8 a month on a regular basis.

Just bought the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10" which will be just right for this - always found the 8" screen on my Shield too small for magazines.

Extended my membership to April 2018 - don't want to be to greedy and my first credit card started to refuse after 12 payments, so last few came off another card...

Thanks OP. Subbed until Jan 2018, I wanted to get the Xmas and New Years mags. Here's hoping it is honoured. If not, some poor sods got a lotta refunds to do.

@Crapweasel, you can/do download the mags to read offline, and, by the looks of it, to keep.

Nice one, been wanting to try this for ages! Just did a month.
ST3123
27 Nov 16 1 #17
Q1. Yes that is of some concern. That said I think standard Paypal protection is up to six months, which isn't of great help to people like me who have bought into this big style and subbed up to 2021, but should certainly be enough for those just wanting to try it over the relatively short term. Credit cards usually offer greater protection though I'm not sure if that is true of very small payments like this.

Q2. Not had chance to try it yet but reviews, such as this: http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc-mac/software/utilities/other-software/readly-1238502/review mention that it definitely allows offline reading, though please don't use that as a guide to the titles available as it's an old review and most of the ones they mention them not having (like T3) they do have now.

See the available magazines here: https://gb.readly.com/products/magazines/gb

Can you get the economist
Crapweasel
27 Nov 16 #15
You raise some good points. Have subscribed for a few months, and will wait to see what happens.

Q1. Is anyone worried if the company goes under, or if your account gets cancelled further down the line, that you may not get your money back? (Obviously if they were to cancel people's orders over the next few months, you could get your money back through your bank or PayPal if you were having issues with getting it back from the company themselves, but I don't think that option would be available much further into the future..)

Q2. Has anyone managed to download a magazine to be stored on their device, so that it can be read anytime?
Crapweasel
27 Nov 16 #10
Surely the subsequent months that you Sign up to for £1 will be cancelled? Usually companies have clauses in their t&c's to stop you doing this type of thing.
ST3123 to Crapweasel
27 Nov 16 1 #14
There is a fair to good chance they will cancel, but on the other hand though they are only getting £1pm those who have preloaded a lot of subscription (I'm 2020 and consider up to 2021) will give them a big boost of cash upfront, which they wouldn't get from normal pay by the month subscribers.

I have no idea how expensive a online magazine netflix type operation like this is to run, surely the magazines just being digital data must be massively cheaper than the old print ones and if they can still run it profitably, then there is no reason for them to pull the plug is there as they will have a lot of very happy customers who may continue their sub when the (extended) trial runs out.....

I've been thinking about signing up to Readly for a while but I've always been put off by the £7.99 monthly sub. My partner hates monthly subs, he calls them 'death by a thousand cuts' and it puts me off from joining a lot of these monthly paid services.
However for £1 per month it's definitely worth a try.
Worst that can happen is they cancel the extra months that have been added. If they don't you've gained very cheap access to Readly.
Thanks OP.
