So is this season pass actually an "unlock stuff early" pass? So there's no extra content you can't get in the base game by playing and unlocking? No extra maps, extra operators that you can only get with the season pass?

Pretty much exactly that, but it will take you a long long time to unlock all the operators by just playing the game. I think there may be a few extra cosmetic things and it will also earn you extra in game cash to buy cosmetic stuff but you will get the same maps and can unlock all operators with just the base game.

There were about three months between each new DLC for this year (the last one being Red Crow a short while ago), so possibly February?

My opinion: not sure it's worth buying now as you only get this years content. I may be wrong but i only play with the same 3/4 ops and have unlocked them now just by playing normally and personally not bothered about the one week early access.

You only use 3/4 ops? Based on that, people best ignore your advice about not getting the season pass. The extra 6 operators, are well worth the money, even just to save time unlocking them! And its especially worth it while the game is also fairly cheap. Btw, when grinding to unlock those extra ops with only renown, you're looking at around 15 hours play per one.

I didn't realise that. I got it at £9.99 which I was happy enough with due to only coming over from Xbox to PC in last month and really like the game so was a quick way to have more operators. Heat.

No, this will unlock all 2016 operators and give you 600 in game credit and outfits and head gear for the last 4 operators I think. Worth it for the price if you ain't unlocked many of them and don't have time to play as much to get 25k R currency
