If you buy a bridge and a bulb separate then surely it can dim for you?

So basically this kit means the switch can talk to the bulb but if you want to control with your phone or voice (Alexa) then you need a bridge? I looked on CeX but ain't cheap.

The v1 Hue Bridge was available for £4 in CEX. This works with Alexa (but not Siri)
The devices use the Zigbee protocol to communicate

Thanks. Had never heard of ZigBee.
So ZigBee is used between the bulb and the switch, I guess the hub uses ZigBee to talk to the bulb, but connects to your home Wi-Fi network so you can control via phone / computer / Siri / Alexa etc.

Total novice with this kind of lighting, what technology is used for the switch to talk to the bulb?
I guess you leave the physical switch on all the time, and use the remote to turn the bulb on / off?

Correct, and if you have the hub you can also control it via your phone (or voice with Amazon Echo)

Can you control different bulbs with the switch? We already have some colour bulbs and would be good to have a switch to use (turn on and dim, don't need colour from the switch) but obviously this is useless if it's locked to the bulb it comes with or can't be used on colour ones.
EDIT: Looks like you can. Also same price at B&Q by the looks of things.

Each switch can be used to control up to 10 bulbs without Hue Bridge.. if all paired with Hue Bridge, then it can control as much as bulb as the bridge supports (I think Gen 2 Bridge can pair 50 lights)

your better off buying a starter pack, as they dont tend to do deals on just the hub. or just buy the hub off ebay.

You don't need this to control with Alexa, but you will need a Hue hub.

can you split the kit so the remote works on the bridge?

I unplugged the hub the other and just used the dimmer and it did work. Ordered thank you. Heat

I didn't realise you didn't actually need the hub to use the dimmer, but according to the write up can be used standalone?!
Great deal either way!
