Indeed you would. Hue Hub 2.0 (Amazon) is the latest iteration.
However, if you're not interested in Siri functionality you could always get one of the first generation, circular hubs from eBay if you were so inclined.

works well and can use 3rd party app so it reacts to sound when watching movies or music for example
Buy an LED light strip from Ebay for less than a tenner and plug it in to a TP link socket currently £16:49 at Argos.
You'll then get something similar for half this price?

I've got Hue lighting. The starter pack for the bridge and 2 bulbs is normally about £59. You can then add bulbs and the strip light to this. I've done that, and then control it by Amazon Echo... its quite brilliant. I love it. (My strip light is behind my TV, and you can download apps to get it to react to music, TV and to use it as a Lava lamp)

as sh20 stated it wont be adaptive to whats on the screen. so it will just turn random colours, so better to music than to films as can get annoying with the differing colours behind what youre watching

Adaptive bias lighting doesn't do much for the perceived contrast so I'm not looking for multi-coloured lights, I get it that it looks nice but my main aim is for reducing eye strain when watching in the dark.
Would be nice for the light to dim down slightly on really dark scenes though.
