Nope, me too. I pretty much avoid any games without a single player campaign nowadays.
I haven't enjoyed multiplayer gaming online - despite trying - I just find it frustrating as it seems EVERYONE is better than me. I have just about got my bearings after re-spawning, only to find myself dead again.
The last time I did enjoy it was probably Duke Nukem 3D or Quake 'Multiplayer' in the office, many years ago.

Picked this up on PS4 about a week ago. Seems fun and a bit different, the characters are awesome. But, I can't figure out how to play any type of game other than one fairly samey mode of "escort the payload/limo/truck"...

You won't want to when you get into competitive games and get to learn the characters more. To me, each hero is like a totally different game.
zeroquai
8 Nov 161#24
Don't forget, there is no paid DLC for this game - all the new heroes, maps, modes and continued balancing/support from the developer is free.
They pay for this by selling "loot boxes" which give you cosmetic items to change how your character looks, but you can earn these in game anyway, and they do not have any impact on gameplay.
I agree with Marmaluke as well - there is an amazing amount of depth in this game as you learn each character and the full extent of their kit.

I have to say that I was of the same mind as you, I got Star Wars battlefront for Christmas and pretty much gave up on it after being repeatedly killed by people who were far better than me and equipped with better gear to boot.
As a result I was very skeptical about Overwatch, as I assumed it would be the same - until I played the beta.
The good thing with overwatch is that even in the casual "quick play" mode, there is a matchmaking system which ensures that you are placed with players of a similar skill level to you. If you win a few games on the spin you may find yourself placed against better opponents, and vice versa.
There is also a very useful online community to provide support and strategy - youtube is particularly useful.

We are each different. For example, £20 to me seem fine for the fact there is no single player aspect to this game. I would never pay the £55 RRP they were asking for, that's a stupid amount for it. I love Single Player games, just spent hours on end (don't want to look becuase it's a lot) addicted to Witcher 3 and not done with it yet. I do like easy pick up and play games, where I can jump in, play for 20-30 minutes then put down, especially socially with me brother and/or friends. No matter how much i play Dragon Age Inquisition or Witcher 3, can't do that.

I don't particularly mind on-line Multiplayer. My issue is that I have so little time for gaming, that I'm pretty much always the worst person playing - which then puts me off playing at all. I really like the look of Overwatch, but frankly there's just no point.
lomax
8 Nov 16#50
Probably the best multiplayer shooter this year and one that will continue to be played for a while. The population is only growing and for good reason. It had 7 million players by the end of its launch week in May and was up to 20 million early October.
Blizzard are also constantly releasing new content(heroes, maps and modes for free). No season pass shenanigans splitting the population.
For newbies unitlost has some pretty good content if his voice doesn't annoy you. And there are the r/overwatch and r/overwatchuniversity communities on reddit. r/Overwatch apparently has over 76 million subscribers now so they are fairly active.

Of course, applies to any FPS game. KBM is far superior and precise than controller sticks.

8 Nov 16#66
It's basically a TF2 clone with elements of MOBA gameplay (with the cooldowns, ultimate abilities, and different "champions"). They found a niche in the FPS market. It's not really for everyone.
Personally, I think actual MOBA games are miles better (e.g. League of Legends) but to each their own.
lomax
8 Nov 16#67
Generally true but it can depend on the game. Titanfall for example has huge amounts of aim assist with a controller even on pc they had a console pro vs pc pro exhibition and it was a 50/50 depending on the map.
In Overwatch there's no aim assist on pc even for controller. Blizzard balanced the game separately for pc and console given it's much easier to aim on pc using a mouse. But with the league being about esports money ofc it's PC based the skill ceiling is just higher once you remove the aim bot. The min specs for Overwatch on pc are really low though a 2008 AMD processor and low end 2012 Nvidia or AMD graphics cards will do it. The game is very well optimized.
For people worried about getting killed online. The time to kill in this game is much longer than call of duty or battlefield. There are heroes where you don't need to aim at all basically just face in the right direction e.g. winston, symetra, mercy. The matchmaking will automatically put you against people of the same skill. Given the ridiculous number of people playing this game there are plenty of low skilled players . Lots picked this up as their first fps because Blizzard. At my skill level you are way more likely to see this or worse as the norm.
