For anyone buying this product, DO NOT install the latest version of the Mi Fit app, there are faulty firmware updates for the band that are pushed out with the Mi Fit app that basically broke the Heart Rate sensor, broke sleep tracking, and made the calorie count completly inaccurate. in other words it makes the mi band 2 completely useless for anything other than a watch to tell the time....

- DO NOT just go to Google Play and install the latest version of Mi Fit, the app automatically updates the mi band 2 firmware with the broken firmware without giving you the choice of whether you want to upgrade or not.

- If you've already installed the latest version of Mi Fit and updated the firmware it's too late, you cant roll back the firmware and you will have to wait and hope Xiaomi fix the issue, so far in 30 days they havent fixed it.

- Find Mi Fit App version 2.1.9 this will update your band to firmware v1.0.0.39 . This is the last safe version. DO NOT install any newer versions of Mi Fit.

- Xiaomi software support is very poor they dont seem to care about fixing the issues wioth their faulty firmware (bugs introduced in firmware v1.0.0.53).

Take a look on the Xiaomi forums and see howe many people are complaining about the issues with the faulty firmware. It was a great product before the faulty firmware killed it..

http://en.miui.com/thread-386280-1-1.html

- NOTE: gearbest and banggood are not official Xiaomi resellers so Xiaomi dont honour warranty on products purchased from from them !

*** THIS FIX WORKED FOR ME ***

Mine update this afternoon before I saw your message, it updated to FW1.0.0.55 but it did still appear to have stopped the heart rate monitor and also the capacitive touch button working. A re-boot of the phone fixed the heart rate monitor but the button still didn't work, I fixed that by going into the Mi Fit app (Profile option) and turned the "Rotate wrist to switch info" on and then off after I confirmed the button was again working.

All sorted now, it's working like a champ again!

Does anyone know how to get the Heart Rate Monitor working?

I have tried most of the solutions here https://www.google.co.uk/search?client=opera&q=mi+band+2+heart+rate+not+working&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

or have you got the show hr on band turned on?

it does only show for about 1-2 secs before going off-unless you tap quickly on the band.

Got mine on Saturday. Everything seems to work fine - it updated the firmware as soon as it was connected, and using the latest Android App, the HR functions fine. It is possible to get it to continuously update HR when running, but I've not discovered how to access that data yet, but it shows on the screen phone as you use it . I only used that function the first time yesterday. I can measure instantaneous HR either via Band or Phone App. It matched up to the running machine HR. Also alerts for EMail, FB, Whatsapp, Messages and Calls, etc (you can choose up to 5 different Apps I think - maybe more), if you set it up. So far, so good....

I'm very pleased with mine, I got one recently. The battery is quoted at lasting 20 days, it's been 11 days since I charged mine and its at 50% still, so should get 20 days and thats with all the features turned on.

The heart rate monitor works fine for me, certainly as good as my old Moto 360 v2. It needs to be held fairly still on your wrist. It may suffer if you're sweating heavily too but thats the same with most heart rate monitors.

The app good and shows you plenty of information, also has Google Fit integration, which is more useful for me personally.

Bluetooth on a modern phone shouldnt drain much battery, its not 2006 anymore. The app does use roughly 4% of my battery per day as it sends notifications etc to my band when I get messages etc.

I only bought it because I thought my Moto 360 was lost in the post after returning it for repair, turns out its not lost, just Royal Mail dont update their system! but I'm tempted to keep the Mi Band instead, obviously I lose the smart functions but the Mi Band offers amazing battery life and I've been enjoying the sleep tracking.

I bought one of these about a month ago and use it with an Android app called 'Notify & Fitness for Mi Band' which IMHO is far superior to 'Tools & Mi Band'.

I used to use a Fitbit, but combined with 'Notify & Fitness' the Mi Band 2 knocks Fitbit out of the water. This is a great app for recording: steps, sleep, calories burned, heart rate, weight and workouts including GPS tracking via your phone. In addition you can use the app for sending customised notifications from any installed app to the Mi Band. I personally love the silent alarm feature which is great for keeping your schedule on track without being intrusive to others around you. Also the countdown time is useful for timed workouts, Pomodoro or simple count-down or stop-watch timer for any other purpose you can think off.

I've also now ditched my Withings smart scale and replaced it with the Xiaomi Mi Scale, which you can buy (delivered) for around £35 and works seamlessly with the Mi Fit app (although at present does require manual connection to the Fitness & Notify app.)

Another bonus, my Fitbit Charge used to last less than a week on a single charge, whilst the Mi Band lasts over two weeks. One thing to bear in mind with any of these devices is that battery life can be dramatically reduced with excessive vibrations notifications, so keep them at a minimum if you want to extend the battery life.

Great bit of kit for the price and works fine on my iPhone. Don't believe there is any function GPS related though. I also suspect the heart rate monitoring is less than accurate but great for measuring steps. Sleep stuff is fun, no idea if it is accurate or not. Notifications work really well. Great for telling the time in bed at night, especially as the Oled lights up when you raise your arm.

I've read multiple reviews stating that the heart rate is quite unreliable. Did you compare the Band 2 with manual measurements?
blackdogman
17 Nov 16 1 #85
I had the original Mi Band and upgraded to this about 2 months ago (paid more for it than this though!) and it's brilliant.

The latest software update for Mi Fit (the software on your phone) now has a running application that not only tracks you but also monitors your heart rate constantly.

To really get the most out of it though you need to get Mi Band Tools from the Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.zdenekhorak.mibandtools&hl=en which really makes this an absolute bargain.

The latest update for instance lets you set your phone full screen as a heart rate monitor so that you can exercise in the Gym and constantly monitor your heart rate. You can also set individual icon notifications with it on the MiBand for SMS, email, whatsapp etc I have a fat sluggy looking thing appear when I've been sat on my **** for more than an hour

This is a bargain! I got it a few months ago for £40 or so and think it is great value for money. I had looked at fit bit and all the other high end brands but after researching this one is everything you need and looks nice and slim line. It records steps (and lets you know when you have reached your target), mileage/km,vibrates if someone is calling you and just before(!) your alarm goes off. You just need to down load the Mi Fit app and scan the barcode to sync it to your phone as the instructions are in chinese. The heart monitor is a bit more sensitive - I find that it works best if the strap is tight or if I hold it against my wrist for few seconds.

I've had one of these for about three months. When it works, it's great but it frequently unpairs itself from my LG G4. If I do an activity, running or walking, where it has to store a lot of data, it will lose the connection and the display shows an incorrect time and the date, battery % disappear. The only way to reconnect is to unpair and repair which loses any unsaved data. It'll work for a day and then crash again. The device is maybe faulty but a search will show plenty of people having similar issues. It's got the latest firmware and the latest app version. I've tried all the suggestions on the Web to fix, but none work. Save your money and go for a Garmin or Fitbit!

I still don't think you can beat a chest strap heart monitor, yes it's a chore putting one on, but there is a whole lot more information picked up by the sensors. An led that picks up a pulse is only going to be realistically effective if it's welded to the wrist whilst exercising. No doubt garmin, tom tom users will disagree but at this price point I'd stick with a chest strap sensor.

20 Nov 16 #114
No you're absolutely right. The problem they have now is that they are still charging premium prices but the technology hasnt improved enough to justify the price. It's just not yet close to what's been around for years.

I'm not sure but I think I read that Fitbits share price dropped a good bit a few weeks back. I think they may just be pushing newer devices out to paste over major flaws with the previous ones.

Can anyone who now has this but had the 1 or 1s before comment on whether your Mi account still has your historical data when you switch bands? I have a load of data from my original miband 1 and would like to keep it when I upgrade (alternatively, does anyone know a way of exporting the data?) Thanks!
Shaker
20 Nov 16 1 #119
Yes if you use the same app and sign in details all data is carried forward. I got a Mi Band 2 a couple of months ago and can still access all my data going back to April 2015. Just Unpair the Mi Band 1 and then pair the Mi Band 2 and away you go!

Awesome, thanks for the quick response! I have been so happy with my miband 1 (amazing bargain compared to fitbits and the like, plus the automatic sleep tracking is brilliant, and I particularly love the way the battery lasts a month) but I like the idea of the HR monitor and the time display on this one - means you can use it as a watch too.

20 Nov 16 2 #129
It says this in the spec, "Accurately monitor total effective sleeping time and motions time every night, also APP will give you periodical evaluation, help you develop good living habits."
philomene
21 Nov 16 1 #130
If this is like its predecessor, the original miband, it automatically works out from your movement and your position whether you are asleep or not, and then breaks your sleep into "deep sleep" and "light sleep". Obviously the deep vs light is not as accurate as monitoring your brainwaves or whatever, as it's purely based on movement (not sure if the new version adds in HR monitoring for additional accuracy) but I have been really impressed by how accurately it knows when I fall asleep and wake up. The only thing is if I wake up briefly during the night but don't get up and don't move much, it still thinks I'm in "light sleep" rather than awake. So it might not catch how often your wife wakes up, but I'm not sure there is anything that will do that, and I actually find it reassuring to see that I do have quite a few periods of "deep sleep" every night.

The international (HK) version is currently showing up as the same price as the Chinese version (£19.95). Ordered, thanks OP.

Worth noting that their systems can't handle email addresses with a '+'; it'll accept them, but then they fail to validate (goes around in circles). Manually modify the verification link sent to you and replace '+' with '%2B' to validate your email.

Cheers for this info. I was beginning to think it was just my unit that was faulty as it hasn't been given me HR readings at all for the past week. I'm sure the pedometer is under reading too. unfortunately the new firmware fixes none of the bugs or issues introduced by v1.0.0.53 . The software support is non existent, they know the firmware is faulty but they haven't withdrawn it so anyone buying a new device will get the dodgy firmware when they install mi fit (unless
they install 2.1.9 or below). Surely they should remove the dodgy firmware from their server and stop pushing it to devices. They can also easily fix the bugs releasing a downgrade back to v1.0.0.39 but they don't seem interested in fixing anything.

Your mistake was buying two at once. It's always risky buying items worth over £18 from abroad and the more items in a package the more likely it is to get flagged by customs

I ordered two seperalety. they contacted me to see if I wanted them to be sent together but I declined. Also when you purchase the first one on a new account I think you get a credit on your account which you can use for the second. They are great little gadgets and my battery is still 40% after 3 weeks use. There is also an app on the play store, apart from the official one, that means you can tinker with the settings - if you want. My two packages got delivered without any issue.

Hi there,

I got my Mi Band 2 from gearbest yesterday and i installed the latest Mi app without reading your comments. My band actually got version v1.0.0.34 and it tried to update the firmware couple of time but it failed. But today while at work i did a bluetooth sync and it did a software update and it moved my firmware to v1.0.0.55. i dont how good is 55 agains the 53 which you had mentioned as faulty. Just updating it for other users on this note.

24 Nov 16 #182
It's not that, import charges should occur from £15. Which is around £4 for this, plus maybe £10 for handling. If the delivery company are doing their job properly it's cheaper and easier to just get it from Amazon.

Edit: Store reviews are terrible as well, nevermind, I'll pass.

DON'T BUY THESE!! - I have received them yet, but after ordering, was sent an email from Gearbest, asking for $9.67 to ship DHL otherwise it will arrive after Christmas. They sent me two invoices for this amount, I paid one and rejected the other. They still would'nt release until I could prove that I paid it via Paypal (I would have thought they would have received payment email?) They informed me there could be a custom charge - I then get a demand from DHL for £19...so in essence this has not been a good deal - lesson learnt, if it is too good to be true.....It is too good to be true!!
Dave_dave69
29 Nov 16 #195
None of that happened to me! Mine arrived in 2 weeks for the price advertised.
adam5321
29 Nov 16 #196
Agreed with above. Had no issue. Mine arrived within ten days.

I've used it for 36 hours now. Bought this simply for sleep tracking, which it doesn't do at all. I'm guessing it's the software issue as mentioned above. Paired with my iPhone iOS 10 easily. Heart rate works. Text + whatsapp + call notifications work a treat. Has used 5% battery in one day which is impressive as I have had a lot of notifications. Step counter is not the most accurate. Laid in bed this morning when I woke up and it said I had done 18 steps.

So overall. Product looks nice. But doesn't serve the purpose it was purchased for. It will not track sleep at all.

Hoping they release an update soon for iPhones as its pointless me even wearing it. Once it gets updated though, I can imagine this will be a nice little device and bargain for its price.
