I have to assume that you have never played Elite.

If anything NMS dumbs down and simplifies every single aspect of the space sim genre, Elite is a far more complex and expansive game.

Which Elite are you talking about because the original Elite game is pretty much identical. You jump to star systems, dock with space stations, shoot pirates or start combat with other ships or police (sentinels) yourself. It's a total rip off of the original Elite in many ways with trading etc. It just expands upon it.

Nothing like Elite at all, beyond it being in space and their being a ship there are no similarities at all to Elite.

To be honest really love the game and it is like Elite very much but with procedurally generated worlds you can fly down to. It's easy to spot major issues in gameplay though. It needs a major tune up.

One thing to point out this is not a violent game it can be played by young children and adults alike. There isn't much darkness to it. Space combat and the wild life on planets aren't too aggressive and you can even befriend animals. I find some of the graphics very beautiful and love exploring alien worlds. If you take on the sentinels either on a planet or space the difficulty ramps up quickly.

There are mods for PC version but that doesn't help if you are on ps4.

No Man's Sky was a mistake

i avoided all hype for this. I just wanted a game where i didn't have to do anything, and for that to be in space. It was made for me! I can see why people are annoyed though now I have gone back over it all. Personally, I've had my monies worth and after a few weeks off there are some definite changes in the game. I think however i am the only person on the internet who thinks there is too much to do and see in the game! too many buildings etc, i WANTED to get that desolate lonely exploratory feeling. The only thing that really gets on my wick is the portals not working. Other than that I got exactly what I wanted / expected.

I still think that £30 should have been the top end price at release though but hey ho. Ive had good moneys with in terms of ££ per hour

Ok, yes they promised more than they delivered, sold the game on a lie and should be held accountable for it.
That said, I enjoyed my time on it. big open world, farming resources sim. Fantastic music, often desolate gameplay out in the vastness. Of course it's not for everyone. I don't enjoy FIFA or JRPG's. But I enjoyed this, for a time anyways. I've other distractions, but I'll come back to it.
If you're on the fence, I reckon for £15 it's worth a shot.

I can understand it might have been an overwhelming experience for such a small team, but you're right, they should have said something by now and an apology would be a start. I liked the art style, I really liked the music, and getting off that first planet was fist pumpingly good. If it had been half the price and allowed to grow organically and develop a following, it could have been awesome. Unlike you I didn't turn a profit, but I cut my losses short! :-)

agree but he (murrey) should of came forward and said sorry we cant meet what we said and i think most people would of been fine, i will probably pick it up at this price as enjoyed it when i got it on release but it was not worth £40 so sold it a few days later and made money on it, but i do think for what it offers 15-20 its worth it

To me he just seemed like someone that got swept along with the hype of his own product. Either way, I reserve my vitriol for bigger things. If you're going to lose your s**t (and i'm not referring to anyone specifically) over a video game, where do you go from there? Life's going to throw some bigger stuff at you than a disappointing video game.

yes they were deliberately dishonest, they have more or less said so and sean murray seems to be a worse boss than he was a game developer

price is ok but unfortunately it flopped on release. more to come off it yet.

I'm not sure that Hello Games were being deliberately dishonest, I think they were just a small developer put on a global pedestal without any real media / pr training or support. The thing that killed it for me was the amount of bugs on launch. Crashing was a regular occurrence - and I don't just mean the space craft. I understand that most of this has now been fixed. If it wasn't for the bugs, I would have been much more prepared to say "there's something good here - I'll bear with you whilst your build in more content". Like a lot of people though, I enjoyed the game for 20 or 30 hours and then sold it. I have no bad feelings about it. I got some value out of it. I think a lot of people will easily get £15 of fun out of it.

I feel vindicated. I was accused of scare mongering and trolling before this came out when I said don't buy this, it's a pointless boring endless mining simulator with zero reward. as always, i've been proven right. :sunglasses:

I feel sorry for anyone who buys this thinking it's a good deal/worth a go at this price.
This is garbage on a disc.
Save your money.
Go out and spend it on something you will enjoy.
Give it to charity.
Heck do anything but waste it on this crap.

I was disappointed the game didn't deliver what was promised by Sean Murray. He's led the world into a false sense of marketing by saying all these features that were not present upon release and these were pretty big features. It's almost like a different game to what we were told it would be... And yes I'm one of those people who pre ordered on impulse based on Sean Murray interviews!

That being said, forgetting the hype and failed promises, it's still actually a fairly enjoyable game for the first 30 hours or so until the monotony sets in. The whole discovering planets and renaming them including constructing things from raw materials and the survival/upgrading aspect is quite good but things do get repetitive after you have maxed out upgrades etc. I think this is a very fair price. Definitely not as bad as people make it out is not a bad game, it's definitely a u owe experience especially with the procedural generation of the animals and planets but couldn't deliver exactly what was promised which is a real shame. Maybe future updates will help them towards making the game what it should of been. Hello games Would have been much better being honest from the start! Heat for the find and price! I'd say it's worth £15 for the experience

I can honestly say that if someone gave me this game AND paid me £15 to play it, I'd still tell them to **** off. The few hours I played at launch was more than enough, definitely one of the worst games I've ever played.

The most boring game I have ever played. People save your money at £15 this is still too much and you will get sick of it after a couple of hours.

Heat. I'll wait for a tenner price point but ignoring the hype and obvious failure to deliver it looks ok, I never thought it would be ten times better than any game we have ever had and that's what the prerelease hype suggested.

It would be like most other first release efforts. Plagued with issues, testers that don't test and over priced.... welcome to the PS4/Xbox1 generation...

Barely any (non rerelease games) on this gen haven't been plagued with issues and needed patching on patches to get close to the pre release hype.

I did consider that, but it's a bit too involved for me and i'm not a huge fan of multiplayer gaming either.

I picked this up for £15.00 last month and I think that's a fair price for it.

Going in with no expectations means that I really enjoyed my time with No Mans Sky.

Expect a fun but basic exploration and survival game and you'll probably enjoy this. Expect a ground breaking revolution of a game (which, in fairness, Shaun Murray suggested it would be) then you'll be incredibly disappointed.

Yeah can see this being on ps plus free games soon probably when a dlc pack is due out to try and get some players playing this again. Played it for a few hours and sold it more than my preorder price so a lucky escape.

i think i'd look at this for about a tenner as well. i know it's got it's problems but i do like the idea of it and, as a fan of old school "Elite", I like the idea that you can fly from planet to planet and land on the surface as well.

It's gradually getting lower and lower. I'd like to try this, but too much in the backlog at the mo.
