First online retailer to take pre-orders, with a price guarantee too.
Only downside is they charge on order, not dispatch.

Fab! Gamesuck has been always good selling virtual stock and now getting preorders on a device which has not been officially announced for preorders! Now people give your money away to them starting from today (they'll charge you upon placing order).

By "they", do you mean Nintendo? The chaps who launched the Wii for £180? And the Gamecube for £130?
The Wii-U was their only "expensive" console to date, with even their basic model, at £250, being £70 more than its predecessor. And given its market performance, I'm not sure that they'll be repeating the Wii-U's price again. Surely it'll be £180-200.

Yep I am eating humble pie as it appears they did come through for everyone that pre-ordered the grey ones back in November,
At least my cynicism can snatch some credibility back with how they handled their Neon edition 'event' the other day, bit more like the usual Gameseek form many of us have become accustomed to. It appears by all accounts only a tiny amount of people who registered to be notified for the red and blue Switch deal got them at that price, far more like a lottery it would seem, blimey they even inserted 'golden ticket' in the subject box of the notification mails I saw written.
At the start of the week I was kicking myself for not jumping on this deal back then but over the past couple of days I have found myself relieved and glad that I didn't. The various teething problems with scratched screens when docking, the joycon bluetooth issue, no system exclusive software as such and the biggest ione of all for me having read many reviews which is I'm feeling this as a seriously powerful handheld but a rather weak home console
I'm happy to hold tight to wait and see what other titles are coming, when they do start coming out I'm looking for a decently priced bundle with a top game and pro controller lobbed in to jump on board.

Got mine which came with a certificate that says congratulations for being part of an historic event for preordering a switch for £198.50.
They want us to post a pic of ourself's with the certificate and switch and they will put it on the site, of course I won't do that but thanks for honouring a deal for once Gameseek

Mine got sent but I'm currently on holiday for another 6 days so missed the delivery by dpd. I'm hoping a neighbour takes it in on redelivery. But fair play to gameseek they honoured the price. A wee quick search on google will show you they have form for not being the brightest on that front.
From my own personal experience I've been on the phone to them and had one of their CS agents assure me he was doing my refund as we spoke for it never to materialise, hence I piped up to Paypal.
Got to also mention they didn't refund the full cost of my postage when I had to return an Amiibo reader I bought from them. I was as good as living over in Austria at the time and they shafted me on that. Like somewhere in their T+C's there was some clause stating they only pay up to a certain amount toward return postage costs for faulty items regardless of the actual charge incurred over the Post Office counter.
And last but by no means least, during that period I was over in Austria I bought a load of various reduced Amiibo off them which I had delivered to my home address here in England. Bought them as the listings suggested they was all the numbered European packaging editions of Super Smash figures but that was not quite the case when they arrived. As the missus was not prepared to do all the running about required in returning the ones that didn't match up to my geeky collector's OCD I never even bothered doing anything about it.
And there you have it, plenty straight from the horse's mouth to prove Gameseek are actually a bit two bob!
So if Mr Stephen Staley or any of his CS minions wish to pull me to verify anything and everything I've just said feel free.......my inbox is open for your DM anytime :man:

Trash them publicly on social media and newspapers/sites. Nothing worse than a retailer promising one thing and not doing it. Very unlikely to happen in this case though, if they didn't want to do it would have been far easier for them to quietly cancel the pre-orders, would be especially stupid for them to promise to honour them and then not, not impossible, but very stupid thing for them to do....

Weren't so keen to honour the refund/replacement you promised me over the phone THREE times when my Yoshi's Wooly World went AWOL in transit the other year though were you?

Great they have honoured this. Have to admit I really wish I had pre-ordered with them now but having £200 tied up for all that time and the fact I thought the RRP would be £200 anyway deterred me, should have gone for it. :disappointed:
That said I would never buy it at £280. I think £200 was the right price for this system and Nintendo will struggle to attract all but the most die hard Nintendo fans at £280....

13 Jan 171#161
Just keep an eye on this thread because you know Gameseek will be mailing every single person who handed 200 quid over to them six weeks ago.
In that mail they'll be informing them they've only been able secure minimal stock at that price so they have a choice of accepting a full refund or hand over another 80 quid to get their hands on the console.
It's just what two bob Gameseek do :smirk:

Really pleased for those that pre-ordered. Good on Gameseek IF they come through. I've just had a negative experience where they cancelled a hard drive I ordered with zero explanation and no reply to my contact (yet) but hopefully that was just a one off.
Personally considering how far behind the PS4/Xbox One the Switch hardware is in terms of raw performance I really think £200 should be the standard price for the Switch. On reading another thread about the Switch Pro controller being £65, I fear Nintendo may well be pricing it beyond what many consumers will pay.
Personally, considering the portable aspect is of zero interest to be (apart from being an admittedly clever feature) and it trails first gen Xbox One and PS4, released some three years ago, it would have to be £150 or less before I'd buy one but I am sure it will see good first party games regardless and I will no doubt buy one at some point, just probably not for the first couple of years....

Gameseek are notorious for making excuses @ dispatch
I haven't pre ordered from them myself but after investigating this post i found on the internet loads of unhappy customers not getting pre-ordered
Now in the world of retail complaints and errors do exist but not @ that extent,
Step one of three is Gameseek confirming you get this price im not saying no one will get a console but im expecting them to let down many of the people who did pre order at this price.
For me amazon is worth the £80 more for the guarantee if your a dead set Nintendo fan and was getting the console (almost) no matter what.
Congrats to the people who will receive the console though and i hope gameseek prove me wrong and fulfil all the pre orders @ that price

13 Jan 17#157
Props to the people who kept their pre-order. Looks like you'll be getting a great deal now.
It's a far more reasonable price for the Switch, really. I'm sure it'll sell-out of its initial stock regardless of the price, but in the long-term, £280 for a base console, with no games, paid-for online subscription, a console that is only just more powerful than a PS3, £100+ controller replacements and the usual stagnation that occurs with third-party support with a new Nintendo console = recipe for another failure like the Wii U.
But hey, I'm sure Breath of the Wild will be amazing, so it has that.

Good price for the console. I expect other retailers will also sell at below £200 and if not then it sounds like they will cancel orders and sell at a higher price so there's really no reason for anybody to line Gameseek's bank accounts for the next few months.
If it was a mainstream company like Tesco (payment on order) or Amazon (payment before dispatch) then it would be acceptable to order now.

I guess I was exagerating a bit. I've got a decent collection for the Wii U and I've enjoyed most of the first party titles when they came out. It's just a shame there's been some big lulls in the timeline with no new good games for it. Plus the fact that the Zelda game was delayed and is not coming out for the switch too, which means I'll either have to fork out for a console or knowingly play a worse version like I did with Twilight Princess back on the Gamecube.

Not sure why people are doubting the £200 price so much. The apparent leak from Game said £200 and £250 SKUs. The Canadian preorder was 330 Canadian dollars, which is £196. There's more 'evidence' pointing to £200 than any other price point.
Nintendo have named this as a 'home console'. Hybrid or not, making it more expensive than an Xbox One S or PS4 Slim would surely doom it to failure? Unless some people are like the NeoGAF members who are expecting an Xbox One Lite, that's a fraction of the size, with costs for battery and screen to be considered too!
prankster101
23 Nov 16#102
The value of the console will only increase. Not enough units in the wild, too many Nintendo fans wanting a piece of the pie now that Nintendo have stopped production, and it's kind of rare.
Prices for the console and games will only increase as time goes on.

Which I believe it will drop in value too which is why I said I could get £600+ for my Wii U and it's games and accessories... (meaning at their current rates). My guess though is some games will hold or increase in value over time. The Wii U console value will drop very soon as people will sell for the switch.
joanddan7
23 Nov 16#100
Right but that's a whole list of games and extras....
the console is worth less than it was when it came out... simple...
The Wii U has done well... and some of the games and stuff have held its value...
but console itself hasn't done brilliantly and id say the value will now start to drop.

That Limited Edition isn't worth much, maybe for the exception of the steelbook. The Star Fox cap is cool but moreso of a collector's item (not many gamers would wear it).
Star Fox Zero - £14.99 (HMV)

Unfortunately SFG disc release was exclusive to the Limited Edition pack so there's no UKV cover for it.

I have as stated the limited edition star fox with cap which will fetch minimum of £50. So we are at £275. Now I have a Mario and a Luigi wiimotes which would fetch £20 each. So now we're at £315. This doesn't factor in the 40+ games all which hold value. Included original box art from Donkey Kong, Mario 3d world, pikmin 3..etc etc. Included in those games are every popular high priced game you can think of... so yes would get over £600 but who's counting...?

They will definitely be stingy on the storage for the base model, got to push people to pay the extra. Reckon it will probably be 16GB with 64GB in the improved one, so long as it takes a 256GB SD and runs them full speed the 64GB isn't too bad.

Slight correction. You're partially right. But on a per unit basis, not long after launch they made a profit with every Wii U unit sold. The losses came primarily from Operating Costs. Not loss from sales.
Don't mind this price point and I imagine it's a really good price point for many. Looking forward to more information in January. Got some Amazon vouchers I'll use to fund this purchase
I see this a fair bit but I had loads of digital purchases before I needed to upgrade my storage. 32GB lasted me for maybe 2 years. By which time I had dozens and dozens of digital purchases.
Not saying it's perfect but I do feel it was adequate based on the way games used storage on the Wii U (nearly not at all for disc games).
Spasho
23 Nov 16#79
I agree with you but the storage is something that worries me. The WiiU only had 32GB and that was a terrible move by Nintendo, thankfully SD cards of large capacities are sold at reasonable prices now but for a console that cost me basically £250 it should've had much more.
sibeer
23 Nov 16#78
Even the Wii U released as the cheapest console of it's generation, PS4 was £350 and the XB1 was £429. The XB1 is probably the better comparison too as the high rate was similarly due to including a controversial bit hardware, much like the pad for the Wii U. If they had re-released without the pad for more like £150 before the others came out it might have been a more popular system.

As far as the deal is concerned though, hold your horses. If it is too low Gameseek will cancel, if it is as rumoured you have just saved £1.50 paying 4 months early with no idea what better offers will appear between now and then.

If you had ever used the N64 Transfer Pak to play Pokémon on your TV you would get the hype. If you don’t want to use it as a portable leave it docked and buy a Pro controller. All of Nintendo’s 3DS and Wii U devs focusing on one piece of hardware, I can’t wait. This thing will have more exclusives than any other console in history. Pokémon on a home console, I never thought I’d see the day.

Roughly speaking the hardware is an updated version of the Shield TV which was sold with a quality pad for £150 on release, that was at a profit for Nvidia. This has added a screen, a battery, a dock and the pad is a bit cleverer, but £200 for the basic package with minimal storage and no games sounds about right to me. If it is not at that sort of level it hasn't got a hope IMO, people just won't pay as much for a portable console regardless of dock,
The power will be lower than an Xbox One or PS4, but more than a Wii U/PS3/360. I reckon the gap to PS4 will be like the gap between the Vita and PS3 were it can run similar games with a couple of tweaks and a lower resolution, provided anyone ports them.

because they just cant compete with sony and microsoft with a normal console and the handheld market has always been Nintendos thing so you are getting the best of borth worlds here, just because it can be used as a handheld does not mean you have to

23 Nov 164#63
By "they", do you mean Nintendo? The chaps who launched the Wii for £180? And the Gamecube for £130?
The Wii-U was their only "expensive" console to date, with even their basic model, at £250, being £70 more than its predecessor. And given its market performance, I'm not sure that they'll be repeating the Wii-U's price again. Surely it'll be £180-200.

I bought the Wii U at its perfect purchase point. Console price went down and all games have at one point dropped to a giveaway price. Those days are gone so unless you get people who sell up to buy this my guess is prices will never be worth it.

Yeah pretty much exactly how I felt about it. Can't see Nintendo missing out on the chance to port all the games over to the Switch if it's popular so pretty much RIP Wii U it seems
derp1664
23 Nov 161#60
I agree, I have felt bad missing out on so many Nintendo games by not having a Wii U but it's always been kinda hard to justify actually buying one cos they've been looking obsolete for a while now. Especially since the NX / Switch has been a thing and they announced new Zelda would be on both.

GameSeek have a history of just pulling the plug on orders and then forgetting the whole thing happened.
The only guarantee that they have on this is:
- If the item comes out below the price, then you can have the item.
- If the item comes out above the price, then your order will be canceled.
I'd wait and order at somewhere reputable. At some point, you'll be able to preorder this for the correct price. If you're actually interested in this, then you'll be able to get yourself on a preorder list.

There's this > All the good WiiU games have been ported to other consoles and especially now with the Switch so hardly any reason to get a WiiU anymore. Unless you're a Nintendo fan/collector that prefers the original releases and how they were originally intended to be played.
And if you think about it financially, you could flip it years later because the GamePad is essential to the WiiU and without it a good amount of its games won't work properly neither accessing the settings.

Is there any reason to buy a Wii U now? I think I know the answer but wonder what anyone else thinks. If the Wii U dropped to £150 on black friday for example
thomps121
23 Nov 16#55
No, i haven't, if one comes up on Friday i will bite, but otherwise i will stick with my old consoles NES/SNES/MEGADRIVE/GAMEBOY, the Wii U was just clumsy if im honest, the touchscreen tech was seriously dated on release and the release titles weren't great, i've been jealous ever since though with regards to the games that have been released, i've always been a fanboy at heart. One side note, does anyone else that owns or owned an Xbox one get seriously fed up with the huge game updates which were always mandatory?

I've done the opposite for the Xbox one, games leave you feeling both underwhelmed and just really un-inspiring, it may be a different case for PS4 owners, but i've sold my XB1 and going for the Nintendo Switch, as the SNES was the best console i've ever owned and their games are undeniably original and just fun to play, also the new Zelda looks outstanding.

Alongside Grainger Games, Gameseek must be the grubbiest games retailer in the UK. You'd be mad to pre-order with them.
I'd also be very surprised if their pre-order price guarantee amounts to anything in the event that this isn't the launch price. They'll cancel your order claiming no stock or something, and then take 3 months to refund you.

I genuinely laughed out loud at that. Nintendo could lose a football match they were 6-0 up at in the 89th minute. Look at the Wii U, it's price point NEVER dropped and they still managed to lose around $49 million on the Wii U.
Personally I don't see the Switch retailing at anything less than £250 as a solus console and up to £350 with games. It's just the way they work. Don't get me wrong, it would be brilliant, but it's highly unlikely.

I think the hardware is more expensive than the £200 price-point, and if that's the case, Nintendo must surely be making a loss on each unit sold.

They want us to post a pic of ourself's with the certificate and switch and they will put it on the site, of course I won't do that but thanks for honouring a deal for once Gameseek

That said if you ship out a Switch on launch day to EVERY customer who pre-ordered with you honouring that price I'll stand corrected, eat humble pie and throw myself at your feet begging forgiveness.

In that mail they'll be informing them they've only been able secure minimal stock at that price so they have a choice of accepting a full refund or hand over another 80 quid to get their hands on the console.
It's just what two bob Gameseek do :smirk:
But hey, I'm sure Breath of the Wild will be amazing, so it has that.
http://www.gameseek.co.uk/video-gaming-news/2795/gameseek-honouring-%C2%A3198.50-nintendo-switch-pre-orders
They cancelled the order but after 3 weeks now, I still don't have a refund.
They keep saying it has been done/ will be done etc. Total BS.
If it was a mainstream company like Tesco (payment on order) or Amazon (payment before dispatch) then it would be acceptable to order now.
Should be cheaper next year after the Christmas rush settles.
Then see what the bundle prices drop to next Christmas if the take up is good and if more games are released.
I think the lack of processing power, graphics power and storage will stop big sales.
But that's Nintendo for you. Innovate and cutting edge, but lower powered.
I've never had a problem with GameSeek, I've ordered loads of software and hardware from them in the past, often getting the games a day or two before release. heat added
I personally would wait instead of rushing in too early, especially as you have to pay up front. Company has a bad Xmas or already see it on the cards and shut up shop with a load of extra cash.....its hardly unheard of  I would assume though that if you used a credit card you would be covered by the bank just in case.
Prices for the console and games will only increase as time goes on.
the console is worth less than it was when it came out... simple...
The Wii U has done well... and some of the games and stuff have held its value...
but console itself hasn't done brilliantly and id say the value will now start to drop.
Edit: and yet my point is I wouldn't sell it as that's not what I do. I still have the original NES and SNES etc.
I could list prices of all my consoles and the assorted junk that some people still pay for...
its nothing to do with it holdings its price and your WII U would currently fetch about £175 maybe a tad more... maybe tad less...
not sure its relevance to Gameseek wanting to rob you of 200 notes for months on end.......
Basically this : if you order it from gameseek - YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR ORDER
Star Fox Zero - £14.99 (HMV)
Star Fox Guard - £18-20 (Disc edition - usual prices sold for on eBay)
Unfortunately SFG disc release was exclusive to the Limited Edition pack so there's no UKV cover for it.
What a vermin outfit they are
Don't mind this price point and I imagine it's a really good price point for many.
Not saying it's perfect but I do feel it was adequate based on the way games used storage on the Wii U (nearly not at all for disc games).
will a Loaf of bread be £50 too...
