I asked instore and apparently Game as a whole sold out on their second preorder (shipment due end of November) the day after release on both console and controller. Decided on release day that it might be a good idea to have that second controller. (fail ha!)

It is. And pressing the home button on the classic controller take you to the main menu, meaning you don't have to press the reset button on the console itself.

no you can't.
this thing has cable with plugs similar to Wii mote.
extension cables for it are £10 ash..definitely not £1.50
and will look horrendous with all those lumply plugs attach to each other.

You know that you can get an extension cable for the controllers for about £1.50 on eBay right?

Just got mine through, turns out these are going for up to £40 on ebay.

Finding it hard to justify holding onto it and the console (£130) when prices are this crazy, even as a fan and casual collector.

Those definitely look a lot nicer and more authentic than the one I featured. Never really been a fan of N64's alienfied controller.

I dont think the NES mini detects Wiimotes so im not sure you can use them as wireless controllers with this

Gonna have to buy my son a chair now so he can get bad eyes right in front on the telly

that's the old days of Japan where people (kids) used to sat very close to tvs on floor and play games, not to mention tvs back then were mostly 20"..in Japan usually they used to be even smaller Tv so sitting close to small tv specially on the floor would justify having short cables for controllers.
but now in 2016,every one has large screen tvs and sit on a couch with a good distance so Nintendo's decision to make controller cords of this console so short is plain stupid and makes zero sense.

can you not buy an original nes for about 8 quid? these days? or are they considered "retro and vintage" and therefore are expensive?

The 3rd party mentioned was in relation to the controller manufacturer, not the seller.
Amazon may well be selling it, but that item is not made by Nintendo and is likely the same as the ones you can buy on eBay for a couple of quid.

Except the Wii remote won't have anything to connect to as the console doesn't have Bluetooth.

They don't come with 30 games and look rubbish on modern tvs.

And cost about 10 times that.

Anyway to get this working on raspberry pi? (with adapter perhaps) if so could use with RetroPie image.

I preordered the console from Nintendo website but couldn't preorder an extra controller as they were all out of stock. This is perfect as it means the wife and I can start playing the console together from day one.

I'm just gonna wait for the whole Mini NES console + controller hype to settle down and then pick one up on the cheap. £7.99 is cheap enough as it is for an official and brand new Nintendo controller but wouldn't make much use of it right now.
