This is a great deal and worth grabbing since the performance increase from the 7th gen cpu is definitely not worth the massive difference in price!

For anyone thinking of buying this.... don't think, just buy it!!!!!
Best laptop bar none, handles anything with no effort and that QHD bezel-less screen is amazing, for such a compact laptop you wouldn't believe how big the screen looks.
I don't normally endorse products, but when I do, it has to be something special and this DeLL is up there. Price does seem a big steep, got mine (same spec but bigger HD) for around £775 a few months ago, so keep an eye out for voucher codes/cashback combos

I have had to return mine, i had the 6560u i7 512gb ssd 16gb 540 gpu version for £969 from same place. Compared to the i5 9350 8gb, there are some pros and cons you might want to consider so you need to decide for yourself how important battery life, screen resolution, core power etc. My advice would be, if you just want the best screen go for the QHD it really is gorgeous! However, the performance isn't worth the price difference as it is not major compared to the i5 8gb that i already have, actually my matte xps 13 9350 FHD screen version works much better for me as it is lighter, i can use it outside with no harsh reflection on the screen unlike this i7 QHD shiny gloss, the QHD is glass so it is also heavier than the base of the laptop and obviously easier to break, it isn't as well balanced as the glass is heavier than the keyboard/cpu, plus my major drawback was the battery life, it is so bad compared to the FHD i5 9350, i get a full day from my XPS 13 9350 FHD and this i7 qhd gave only 4hours using WiFi and editing some photographs, but if you're near a plug socket often, the choice is yours.

sure, I'll update it when I get in with the code. We did an area search instore and most of the country are down to ex demos, the only store that had 2 were a clearance store in Manchester. Now to sell my i5 Dell xps 13 model with 30months warranty left, guess on value?

The reduction is because of the 7th Gen i7 out now, this model is now clearance and usually there are only display models left, but most curry's stores have only started selling Dell since the summer so haven't been permanently on for a year etc

yeah, except this has a QHD screen, a better proccesor, 16gb ram, FHD webcam, a touch screen and probably £500 cheaper if you bought the 512gb ssd macbook, but don't worry the macbook is probably lighter and thinner which makes everything moot.

Depends what you want it for. This deals machine likely has a better real world battery life than the new MBP, better CPU, better IGP and will have a longer OS support than a MBP. The current Gen MBP is a laughing stock even in the Apple community! That said it will run MacOS better if that's important too you.

I bought the Dell XPS 9360 QHD recently (Kaby Lake, Core i7, 16GB RAM, 512 SSD) but just had to return it due to a multitude of issues.
The main issue was very annoying coil whine coming from the device, especially loud when plugged in. This is a widely known issue with the XPS that Dell have been aware of for years. I was aware of this as a potential issue before purchase, lo and behold, my device had it.
The other main issues were that the touchpad would intermittently refuse to register repeated clicks, the device got extremely hot playing Hearthstone for just 15 minutes (cores reached 95°C), the device constantly refused to sleep or woke from sleep unexpectedly, the charger brick gets too hot to hold, audio over headphones has a background hiss even when audio isn't playing, and the keyboard keys feel hollow / wobbly / indefinite and the layout isn't great.
Good points... the device was extremely fast, the touchscreen was very responsive, and the screen was absolutely stunning... So stunning it was painful to have to return the laptop, but I couldn't live with so many issues, especially on a premium laptop.
I think the deal posted is good for the top of the range Skylake version of the XPS 13 with Iris graphics, if you really want this specific laptop, but I simply had to mention all the problems I had with it.
In the end I've decided to get a large tablet instead for web browsing and casual gaming (because they don't get boiling hot while gaming like ALL laptops) and a cheaper ultrabook for my web development and laptop needs.
Nexusfifth to Zerobob

I know it sounds stupid, but just limiting your cpu to 99% stops it from overclocking and removes the coil whine, I just made 2 battery saving modes, in one I do this and if I need performance I switch, it also eliminates heat issues.
But yes, they seem to have pushed a bit to far with the 7th generation, they are almost 15-20% faster than skylake, but suffer from overheating as they produce more heat and manufacturers didn't make different cooling solutions,...

ccnp to ifa
17 Nov 161#19
Almost agree. I had one with a noisy fan. Dell took it back and refunded it.
Later, I realised the problem was actually Microsoft when they were pushing W10 earlier this year. They overrode the Widnows Update settings and had it gobbling 25% CPU 24 hours a day. They have stopped that now and so has the problem. True the fan comes on if I use it heavily for a long period but that is rare, such is the power of the machine.

nice display but the processor isn't looking that impressive looking at the benchmark results
Nexusfifth to ozzmosiz
18 Nov 16#45
I disagree, if you look at the benchmarks yes this gets 4800 on passmark, but what you are not taking into account is that this is a dual core cpu, it has pretty impressive single core score, comparable to its quad core i7 siblings, what this translates into is that unless you are doing more than 2 cpu intensive tasks at the same time, which lets be realistic most people don't even use one 99% of the time, this will be extremely good.
I don't get all the hate these dual cores are getting, they are much better in terms of battery life and sacrificing only crazy amount of multitasking, which if you are considering, you should get a more powerful machine anyway.
Also don't start with multithreaded apps, apart from some very specfic things mostly nothing actually does it...
The biggest advantage of this is its graphics, while it won't play aaa games it is actually pretty good for integrated (passmark cca 1400, whereas gtx960m gets 1900, and gtx 940mx only 1200).
Also it seems new generation cpus are actually bringing decent cpu speed increase (about 15-20% over skylake...)
hmmm, you have obviously never seen one of these guys, to me they look far better than any macbook did, especially the fatty pro's...
and, ahem no, in what ways do you imagine your machine would outperform this? I really can't imagine the scenario, Windows has also improved a lot and no amount of component specific tweaking will make up for the hard spec difference nowadays (or ni the last couple of years...), also if you actually wanted you can always hackintosh this, but why you would want to escapes me...

I've been looking at the Scan 3XS LG15 Vengeance. For around £1250 you can get a i7 6700HQ / GTX 1060 / 16gb RAM / 1080p G-Sync / 256gb Samsung PCI-e storage.
To get that price you need to remove Windows which knocks £93 off, then purchase a low cost key or install the Assistive Technology version. You could upgrade to the 4K screen for £119 (though I doubt you will be able to play many games at native resolution).
The GTX 1060 is a great laptop GPU but it puts you straight into £1200 territory.

Mine is a 512gb, which should indeed have been pricier than this, but I got a good deal. As I said, I know this has a better processor, but because Windows machines are not overly slick, my MacBook would outperform it - I don't just mean it's nicer to look at, which of course it is.

you can save a lot of money if you go second hand, but then the new graphics cards are worth paying for, try pcspecialist for a new one. 1060 would be good for a laptop to last you a while, 1070 are closer to £1800. also consider how big/portable a laptop you can go for, because if it's just a portable workstation type u can handle, you can get full i7-6700k laptops second hand on eBay, there were a couple of p870dm on last week.
