Just had a payment of £40.83 from OPIA Limited into my account which must be something to do with this, unless someone else is giving me money.
Not sure how the maths works, think I paid £245 from ebuyer as Scan were oos, but looks like 20% off pre vat.

My ebuyer order was delivered yesterday but not had a chance to open up yet, will see what code if any is in box and update in here.
Looking on AMD site https://www.amd4u.com/amdgamepromo/files/AMD-Game-Promo-Terms-and-Conditions-v005.6.pdf they seem to have a choice of games available.
I recently got a laptop with AMD cpu and just logged into the site which checks your system and then you get emailed a Steam code (got Dirt Rally on that occassion), would imagine this is something similar.
Edit - Just noticed I've been emailed a code for Civ 6 directly from [email protected]

Is the 20% cashback available with ebuyer? Is it store specific or available for a card purchased from any retailer?

Always been a lurker on this site, decided to sign up with a new account hoping for advice. Would anyone recommend this over the PowerColor Rx 470? Just recently ordered after seeing it on here. Primarily a console gamer, just looking to switch certain games over to PC (Mass Effect being the big one in future) will be playing at 1080p. If CPU matters, I'm using my old system with an i5 4460.

25 Nov 161#34
Your gtx 960 is perfect for those games, even a bit of an overkill for those mobas. I would only get that 480 if you want a guaranteed 60fps on AAA titles 1080p ultra. Also for higher resolutions (1440p, 4k) dont get a 480, you would be getting under 45fps most of the time and it wouldnt be future proof at all for those resolutions.

25 Nov 16#33
True 3gb is too low for a new card today. Hopefully Vulkan will lead to better performance all round as developers get better at utilising it. It's already shown that AMD cards should have been performing better but were likely held back by their drivers. Anything that increases competition is welcome!
jsty3105
25 Nov 16#32
Happily, my previous Amazon FR warehouse deal for the reference Sapphire 480 card for £175 never panned out. After the cashback and flogging off the CIV 6 key, I should have a better card for equal or just a bit more.
The_Hoff
25 Nov 16#31
Wouldn't recommend the 3GB card for that duration as there's a good few games already searching for more VRAM.
On the AMD front in terms of optimizations you mentioned there's also Vulkan which should add some life to the card, Doom being a fine example as you mentioned.
The_Hoff
25 Nov 162#30
You don't need this card for the games you play.

25 Nov 16#20
This or the 4gb at £153 after the cashback (from Amazon)? I'm not a hardcore gamer and won't be using it for 4k. More interested in something that will keep me playing mainstream titles at
middling frame rates for the next 3-4 years.
Advice welcome, I am so out of touch on recent GPU developments.
Thanks
lomax to Mildlytight
25 Nov 162#29
That's good value for that card, the RX480 was only released this summer. 3 years is probably a good bet but it's hard to tell the future. 4gb should be ok at 1080p for that duration as long as you're not trying to use the ultra setting for textures.
One nice carry over from console development is that newer titles are including dynamic resolution scaling. Like the name sounds it changes the render resolution dynamically to maintain frame rate at the cost of image quality e.g. Doom, Overwatch and Titanfall 2 all have this implemented for all cards. Hopefully this trend continues so that cards last longer.
You probably won't go wrong just buying whichever one is cheaper.
Personally I usually buy 2nd hand cards and then resell and upgrade every couple of years. This is by far the most cost efficient. The classifieds at avforums.com are pretty good for this. Usually cheaper than ebay due to the community and lack of fees.

25 Nov 16#28
So basically all these graphics cards are strictly for above 1080p and apart from that my 960 will suffice for 1080p60fps gaming for the next year at least? all the hype is useless?
Or am I wrong? idk
should mention that I have a 144hz monitor and would like to make use of it, although admittedly I do mostly play csgo, rocket league, and other less intensive games, and easily hit 144+ on them
The_Hoff
25 Nov 16#27
You'll be fine on e-sports games and less demanding titles but you'll need to compromise quality settings (like AA or textures/shadows) to stay in your freesync range (the ideal) on titles like BF1, Mordor, Witcher 3. Forza 3 for example pushes my Fury on Ultra at 1440p with a desired 60fps.
Like it or not, the 480 is supposed to fill the 1080p Ultra settings at high FPS, that's where the vast majority (something like 85%) of PC Gamers operate.
Great deal though, especially if you sell the key via Kinguin or whatever.
Enjoy your new card.
yanick
25 Nov 16#26
It depends on the resolution you play at; if 1080p, the 470 would probably suffice you; you (probably) won't need the extra RAM for 1080p and the 470 has ~11% fewer stream processors (so probably a similar lowering of performance). It will play most current games at highest settings so _should_ play games released in the next few years with reduced eye candy

Not much of an upgrade tbf, like around a 30% boost.
From what I've read online and tests and advice on here this should be fine for max settings on most games but that's only what people have said elsewhere. I did look at a fury but the one on offer doesn't get great quality reviews and I've got a freesync monitor so this when combined with 20% cash back and selling Civ seem good value!

HDMI and Displayport both carry audio, HDMI needs to be version 2.0 on the input to support 4K resolution.

I used MSI's RMA service once a couple of years back and they were great. Sent in my broken GTX 460 and they returned a working GTX 570 to me in around a week, as they had no 460s in stock. There was no charge for this upgrade. The only thing that slightly sucked was having to ship the card to the Netherlands, but that can't be helped, since it's where their repair centre is located.
