I thought this was a good deal 2 months ago. It seems according to a mate that works at M&S it is constantly this price and never was the higher price. I got his 20% staff discount and still felt cheated.

Works out at £9.60 equivalent of 75cl (when bought as 3 bottles with extra 20%) , expensive for a ruby which this one is as it is a Taylor's from Duoro. Ports are always on offer.

So if you missed this then get the Taylor's First Estate Reserve Port 75cl from Asda and Tesco for £8 (on offer now) instead if you don't need that fat glass bottle.

Simple answer to your statement:-
Not that I am a snob and I have just a finger nail amount of knowledge of port. In strict legal definition and trade names protection, you are right, like Champagne must come from Champagne region.

Fuller answer to your statement:-
Portugese Port comes from Douro Valley but not all port come from Portugal. (Strict usage of the terms Port or Porto refer only to wines produced in Portugal but non strict usage is fortified port wine anywhere in the world are called port/Port by a common drinker, who is not pendantic with strict language).
Reserve is a ruby though it is the better type , it is a premium ruby and other names are also used instead of "reserve" , especially in other countries, to denote better quality, such as "fine". There are a list of main types http://www.dummies.com/food-drink/drinks/wine/the-styles-of-port-wine/

​If they're selling it as a port then it must be a port, otherwise they'd be breaching the trademark.

Also, it works out as £7.20 per 750ml with the 20% off so it might be better value than you're saying. I haven't tried it myself so I can't comment on that, but just wanted to get the maths right not to discourage others from trying.

The vintage Taylor's that you can get at sainsburys is usually very good for just a bit more and it can be an alternative for some.

I don't expect we in the UK will find anything in our supermarket that isn't Portuguese Port.
You said originally - "expensive for a ruby which this one is" - but in terms of hierarchy, it isn't a "Ruby", its a "Reserve".

I know virtually nothing about port and your opinion of price/value is as good as mine. I just compared it with the offer prices around now for Christmas alcohol and expressed my humble opinion but if you want to get analytic about it, as you said, "You haven't told me anything I didn't already know. ", the following may shine a light. But anyway, simply, just say cheers to port around the world.

Try port tasting in Porto - amazing experience! I bought this M&S port a few years ago as I liked the decanter! Pleasantly surprised by the taste too!

Went to buy this at lunch and I noticed the bottle next to it was £9 for 750ml. Bottle didn't look as posh and it was Finest Reserve rather than Special Reserve (or vice versa) but the shelf tag said it got silver in the Port awards or something, whilst the one in the OP took bronze in the same category at the same awards.

Bought 3 this morning but no extra 20% deducted :disappointed:. Oh well, still a good deal

Went for 2 cases - for me it applied "Buy 2 Save 25%", added opted day delivery for £3.99 so paid £75.99 for 2 cases of 6 bottles... Then applied a £50 gift card (that we struggled to spend in store) I got for referring someone to the mortgage broker I use so my 'out of pocket' expense is £25.99!! HAPPY DAYS!!

That's odd as it is the system that deducts the 20% for buying 3 and whilst it's not strictly 'wine' as per their 3 for 2 boards, it actually is a form of wine and so should get the reduction, which I got about an hour ago in-store (Manchester city centre)

£48 x 2 = £96 x 75% = £72!! And not £75.99
