I am SO happy with my Roku stick for £17.99 even though this is about the Firestick..
I find it better than my old Now TV box which I was fed up paying subscription for and this feels weird that it is FREE
I have watched Amazon videos and catch up TV so far and my Grandson has watched some Youtube stuff on it mainly 3rd & Bird and Little Mix lol so we are both VERY happy with it and is worth every penny , picture is perfect and clear and no buffering

The upsclares on these cheap TV's are awful so any content other than 4k content is going to look REALLY bad on these sets. You have to spend over £500 on a 4k TV to get one that can play non 4k content at a decent level. If you only have £300 to spend then get a 1080p TV.

I haven't bought anything yet BUT just reading the separate thread on the £10 offer, it seems that if your spend at the retailer tracks WITH vat, then you would only have to spend £25 and guess what, Argos spend does track with VAT!
Shame the people who work at Quidco couldn't tell me that! So, in theory, £25 spend at Argos should give the £10 bonus from Quidco assuming you were eligible for the offer in your quidco account!

Ah yes you are right , or for people like me who have no idea how to add Kodi and just about know what it is
I just needed a streaming stick for watching Amazon video on TV and my Grandson can watch his favourite Youtube music clips etc on the TV
I can just about manage the simple stuff with technology so do usually have to pay someone to do installations etc when some people install their own satellite dish and cables etc .... I just need to plug and play and don't understand about all this jailbroken stuff etc , so some people will pay more for it and the ones who add the Kodi on are quids in but the market is flooded now so the profit margin will start to get lower but I can see why they do it to pocket some cash!

No idea, only came to know via betty's above post.
Cheapest i could find even at Ebay and Boots etc so seems ok to get over the £30 barrier.
I'll leave it unopened and test the waters with the Mrs as Argos have a 30 day money back guarantee so hopefully the £10 with Quidco will have tracked and cleared by then. In the mean time if she says she doesn't like it i'll return it for a refund to Ebay.

They all do it. Because they legally have to have had the product at the higher price for a specific period of time before claiming a sale.
If you keep an eye on products on Amazon leading up to Black Friday you can get an idea of what things are about to go on sale as their prices all shoot up to RRP.

Items that are in high demand require payment up front to save the stocks for people who genuinely want the product, people reserved items on bf deals last yr and never collected them so genuine buyers missed out. These measures are in place to stop it happening again. bonus is you pay the bf deal price but have 7 days to collect.

Black Friday is aimed at fools who part with their money without thinking.
My wife has a fridge freezer in mind (3 weeks ago, but held off waiting for this week - Currys) it's now in the Black Friday Black Tag deals - SAVE OVER £300! Now £649.

I'm not too savvy myself with these things but I always make sure the processor is pretty nippy. It depends what you want it for. Specialist things like games will need a dedicated laptop. If its general use, a decent processor, nice size ram and plenty of space is usually enough.

I had the impression the last few years that Black Friday is a big fat con. The fantastic deals sell out ridiculously fast due to low stock. It's a gimmick to entice people onto sites. I tried setting up a box (quad core, decent spec) recently for my parents and gave up. Suppliers are front loading them with so much outdated guff and incompatible versions of Kodi it was virtually unusable. Maybe if I had a spare week to play around with it and knock it into shape but I don't. The simplistic nature of the stick (basic remote, interface) plus I can add the correct version of Kodi from scratch, makes it more suitable for the less tech savvy IMO.

In very simplistic terms, the Fire stick is running a version of Android, which means you can put Kodi on it if you want. The Roku isn't running android, so no Kodi, ever, although it will run Plex.

Or, perhaps some the members think these are good offers and have voted accordingly.
Also, some people on here who have no idea about the price and product but want to vote, will vote whichever way it's going.

So are amazon just price matching Argos? If so I think they will be even cheaper on Friday possibly?
8gb a bit low on storage. Imo worth the extra for the 16gb
Amazing the retailers this year - starting so early - black friday just isnt the same. Wake up first thing - watch the timer on your PC browser and the sites crashing left right and centre... whilst all "deals" disappear
Those who say you can install play store... you can but you cant install play services which some apps require.

You can get cashback from Quidco or TCB if you order from Argos or Nectar points if you order from Argos Ebay with free click and collect and Ebay you are covered by Paypal but Argos store itself is easiest for returns I reckon if you keep the receipt but Amazon are often good with returns but not always re return postage , same with Ebay but if I get the fire stick or roku stick I will probably order through Ebay for the Nectar points as you get 10x points on Ebay now till 28th Nov ( if you activate the offer I think )

23 Nov 16#205
Inline with Argos is Amazon selling their own product for around £25.00 also. Would guess that will probably be the price this year and the suppliers stock sold to companies to offer for this price accordingly. My advice would be order via Amazon and select no rush or nominated delivery and cancel if you get cheaper before dispatch where payment is taken. Create a free trial Prime account for these options.

What is the real difference between an Amazon fire stick and a Roku stick?
I almost bought the Roku one but if a fire stick is ''better'' then I might get it instead although the Roku stick does seem good value for £17.99

I honestly think the firetv box is a good box. I know the parts are decent and it will receive regular updates.
My first gen firestick still works ok for Kodi, and other streaming options but can lag a little on menus etc.
I just ordered the new second gen firestick via a friend in USA ($29 at some point on Amazon next few days)
It will be interesting to see how that runs. Personally I don't think I could get much better for $29 (.ac wireless/quad core etc)
If I was to spend money on a box apart from that it would be something like a wetek core/play2, Nvida shield, Minix neo X8H+, Matricom G boxQ etc.
But then the price is more around the £100+ mark.

U.K. Amazon only has first gen firestick.
The second gen firestick has quad core and .ac wireless standard and voice remote as normal.

Great deals but for those thinking about a fire stick you should consider an android box with 2gb ram and 16GB of memory with quad core processor - seriously they knock spots off the Amazon stick and are less money - you even get a decent remote too

Thanks, do you know are the Dell deals going to be through Dell direct or are shops selling at those prices, my 11 year old wants a macbook (not happening) so would prefer a diff colour to black but she will be happy with any on the day I'm sure!
Faster processor, and more on-board memory, so should provide a smoother experience. Hopefully UK Amazon won't be too far behind in releasing it (perhaps - and I'm just guessing here - after Black Friday depletes their stock of the V1 model)

the existing voice control fire stick in the uk is the same gen 1 version just with added voice control.
the gen 2 version which has yet to arrive in the uk is the same price as the standard gen 1 version but with built in 'alexa' (voice control, but also a range of other functions similar to the amazon echo) and slightly better specs.

For those asking about the Acer Aspire laptop at £179. The performance of the CPU is roughly the same as the Dell Celeron deal which is rumored to be happening on Friday for £129. Though granted the Acer at Argos has a larger disk.
Or of course the rumor is Dell will be doing an i3 Inspiron for £199 (so only twenty quid more than the Acer at Argos - but in a completely different league in terms of the spec).
So for what it's worth, I'd say if the Dell deals happen (and you can get hold of one), either of their deals beat the Argos laptop. But at £179 the Acer is perfectly fine for a basic laptop (for web browsing etc)

Avoid the 4k TV. Doesn't look to have HDR (half of the big jump for UHD is in HDR... it makes that much of a difference) and it only has a refresh rate of 50hz.

Acer Aspire ES 15.6 Inch AMD any good?

22 Nov 161#41
Odd, you're right in that it does say that it has 2, but if you look at the picture of the rear of the TV, I can only find one. I'd be wary and ask customer services just in case it's a typo, or I'm blind/picture is wrong.

Probably wised up to the reserving all the stock at higher prices trick.
If you want it before the deals start you pay before deal starts price.

Watch out I believe the fire stick sold in the UK is still the Gen1. Gen 2 was released in the US in September and has a voice remote by default, supports x265 decoding natively and has some other tweaks. I want the native x265 decoding so am holding out for the Gen 2 although the Gen 1, which I have 2 of, will still work ok.
Willing to be corrected on this so flag if I'm wrong.

Argos Isn't letting me reserve a firestick, it states
"These products are selling fast, so when you continue we'll ask you to pay online.
We'll hold onto your order for 7 days"
looks like you will need to reserve and pay when price drops to £25 but can the order with Argos not be cancelled Friday if it turns out the firestick is cheaper on Amazon. Never cancelled an order I've paid online with Argos so I don't know how easy that would be

Lol, just finished reading a Which article about Argos portraying false "was" prices and a Dyson product being sold on Black Friday last year for the same price as Dyson had been selling it for months then saw this deal...
The V6 Fluffy was being sold by Dyson for this price earlier in the year and multiple times since! I would recommend reading the article from Which and calling Dyson directly on Friday for the best deal

But remembered seeing this earlier http://www.howtogeek.com/232726/how-to-install-the-google-play-store-on-your-amazon-fire-tablet/
Took me 5 mins no root needed and as well as putting the Play Store on it also removes the lock screen ads ...result
Shame the people who work at Quidco couldn't tell me that! So, in theory, £25 spend at Argos should give the £10 bonus from Quidco assuming you were eligible for the offer in your quidco account!
Confused...dot...com
I just needed a streaming stick for watching Amazon video on TV and my Grandson can watch his favourite Youtube music clips etc on the TV
I can just about manage the simple stuff with technology so do usually have to pay someone to do installations etc when some people install their own satellite dish and cables etc .... I just need to plug and play and don't understand about all this jailbroken stuff etc , so some people will pay more for it and the ones who add the Kodi on are quids in but the market is flooded now so the profit margin will start to get lower but I can see why they do it to pocket some cash!
It was posted 4 hrs back https://twitter.com/henry_calvert/status/801421446409023488

(make of that what you will)
If you keep an eye on products on Amazon leading up to Black Friday you can get an idea of what things are about to go on sale as their prices all shoot up to RRP.
They're for sale all over eBay and Facebook groups. There's a growing market for lazy people it seems!
Just ordered a Fire Stick for my son's room and also a Fire tab 16gb, because why not at that price?
It says it in VERY small type in the terms and conditions AND I double checked with Quidco themselves?
Luke warm (whoever he is?) or ...Cold. Nothing HOT at all!
Black Friday is aimed at fools who part with their money without thinking.
My wife has a fridge freezer in mind (3 weeks ago, but held off waiting for this week - Currys) it's now in the Black Friday Black Tag deals - SAVE OVER £300! Now £649.
Oh really? 3 weeks ago it was £659. SAVE A TENNER!
Waiting now for the New Year sales, probably be much better.
Its in 'very' small print...bit sneaky if you ask me.....
Hope this helps.

1st purchase
maybe cheaper friday but for me this is a good deal so im happy to pay the 30.00 for one considering i need 3 im saving 60.00 lol
thank you black friday sales

This one?

Wooooo, what a sale.
I almost bought the Roku one but if a fire stick is ''better'' then I might get it instead although the Roku stick does seem good value for £17.99
I need it for basic stuff like Youtube and Amazon video
P.S Which is easiest to install??

My first gen firestick still works ok for Kodi, and other streaming options but can lag a little on menus etc.
I just ordered the new second gen firestick via a friend in USA ($29 at some point on Amazon next few days)
It will be interesting to see how that runs. Personally I don't think I could get much better for $29 (.ac wireless/quad core etc)
If I was to spend money on a box apart from that it would be something like a wetek core/play2, Nvida shield, Minix neo X8H+, Matricom G boxQ etc.
But then the price is more around the £100+ mark.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Superview-Android-Amlogic-Streaming-Bluetooth/dp/B01GWFKR7W/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1479858533&sr=1-2&keywords=q+box+16gb
U.K. Amazon only has first gen firestick.
The second gen firestick has quad core and .ac wireless standard and voice remote as normal.
I have a friend in the USA who is getting me one as Amazon are selling them for $29 on Black Friday.
I have the first gen one also (£19) and it works well. But the better processor and wireless will help a lot.
but its already £39.99 on amazon deliverrd8
I've got both and the Amazon stick is useless in comparison so do your homework before spending your hard earned ( well for most of us anyway ) cash :man:
2nd gen not announced or released in UK yet unfortunately.
.... Oh, it's a bush.
Had UK stock, so wasnt going to wait weeks from china
Didn't want to risk using Gearbest etc.
Seller doesnt have any more, i just checked, but theres others on amazon.
Can get the Hi10 for about £150 but was only a cheap kids tablet i was after, otherwise i'd have got the 10 for myself lol.
Where would be the best place to get one? And is it likely to drop to £150 again?
Apart from the rubbish cameras (2Mp), nothing else touches it tbh.
£75ish, for the 8", 32Gb, 2Gb Ram, 1080p screen, hdmi, microSD.
Not much left of the 32Gb with Android and W10 on it, but microSD slot anyway.
I have an old Nexus 7 2012 but it is pretty clunky, would the fire tab be a cheap improvement?
Cheers OP
There's a thread which goes into great detail about the Dell offer.
The £179 for the Acer AMD at Argos is an OK price, but I suspect there will be better deals before the week is out.
So not only have we imported a US marketing strategy designed to make us buy stuff we don't need, but now we're extending it from a single day to a week?
The mind boggles.
http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/media-streamers/1405238/the-new-amazon-fire-tv-stick-2016-will-come-with-alexa-but-still-no-4k
Faster processor, and more on-board memory, so should provide a smoother experience. Hopefully UK Amazon won't be too far behind in releasing it (perhaps - and I'm just guessing here - after Black Friday depletes their stock of the V1 model)
the gen 2 version which has yet to arrive in the uk is the same price as the standard gen 1 version but with built in 'alexa' (voice control, but also a range of other functions similar to the amazon echo) and slightly better specs.
Also looking at laptop for 11 year old
