If you've seen this year's Aldi Christmas advert then you'll have met Kevin, the adorable little carrot desperate to meet Santa. If you already love him, then why not get your hands on this Kevin The Carrot Plush Character. You’ll also be helping vulnerable and disadvantaged children across the UK, as we’re donating 100% of the profits to Barnardo’s.

You could do that, but what has that got to do with buying this toy and donating at the same time?
Are you just one of those people who bores everyone about how much you do for charity?

Soz what I should have made slightly clearer, why just not donate money to good causes rather than running about like a deranged monkey trying to buy a item that all proceeds go to that named charity anyway and also throw in your travelling cost as well that it would have cost you to get one of these.
I hope this helps everyone who may have thought I was some sort of scrooge Scotsman, I'm the complete opposite and actually a very generous fella when it comes to charity and tips when out and about
I hope you haven't asked HUKD for a Dislike Button now Siddas :disappointed:

Just out of curiousity, what percentage of the purchase price actually goes to Barnardos?
100% always confuses people like me.
Is it 100% of the sales price?
Or 100% of the profit?
If the later how is the profit calculated - are they factoring in the costs of transporting it around the network, the cost of someone on the checkout to serve you, heating in the store to keep you warm while you buy your carrot, the design costs, the advert costs etc etc
If Aldi are absorbing the other costs and are actually donating the whole purchase price to Barnados then I take my hat off to them. If not then it feels a lot more like an advertising campaign (a bit like Tesco advertising that they donate 0.01p for every printed receipt from the cashpoint machines - admirable perhaps - they are spending more more on the ink to tell you how much they donated than they actually are donating).

It states on the link: why not get your hands on this Kevin The Carrot Plush Character. You’ll also be helping vulnerable and disadvantaged children across the UK, as we’re donating 100% of the profits to Barnardo’s.So it is profits. They are likely not calculating the cost of the christmas advert in the costs as the advert is for aldi as a store and not for this toy as a standalone product offer. But you can't get very precise without speculating on the other costs; such as warehouse/logistics/shelf space, etc. If you are really curious you should probably contact the charity as they would not be inclined to exaggerate the contribution. Anyway, even if they donate a small amount it is still something, and after all every such act is done in order to improve the image of a company. The same way we people do nice things to be seen by others as decent people. Nothing conspiratory about a bit of CSR marketing campaigns.

Can OP change title from "100% going to Barnardo’s" to actuality "100% of the profits to Barnardo's".
I can pay 2p per carrot to Pakistans workers and if I decide £1.99 is my breakeven point, my £1.97 is breakeven cost and £1 is "profit".

21 Nov 162#19
Not being a pedant, but perhaps I can clarify something, the issue siddas presumably has (and I am admittedly guessing) is the improper use of the English language not the lack of donation. "Why not just donate" would mean "one could just donate instead of buying this and therefore benefit the charity without having a toy"; whereas what you said was "why just not donate" which frankly doesn't make sense in any way if interpreted literally. Siddas will, im sure, clarify.

Exactly. You ARE donating and receiving a funny little carrot thingy also which I know my young grandson will like and will probably try and put on top of the tree.
Especially as he's apparently a Christmas Star.
looks like people are already listing the aldi ones to make a bit of money. Not a problem if 100% profits go to charity but not sure that will happen. :disappointed:

Barnardo's though...went into my local store to donate a load of quality new stuff that my business had come across. Staff were incredibly rude to me. Ended up taking it elsewhere in the end. Wouldn't give them a penny now. Plenty of other charities out there who are grateful for donations.

probably just having a bad day like the rest of us?
I'd struggle to find the appeal of working mostly for no pay, when people dump all their old sh*t outside the shop when they're closed ready for you to clean up in the morning, including broken furniture, dirty and bloodstained clothing and bags of household waste (Yes, I've seen all of these outside my local charity shops). Then along come certain elements of the community and steal all of the valuable items from out front. Then when you've cleared through that you get the joy of people wanting to haggle over a 10p book or expecting things free because you're a charity! What a treat that job must be! Fair play to the people decent and patient enough to do it, and don't give up being charitable because of one bad experience!

I still don't get why the full Christmas dinner is all cooked and laid out on the table the night before? I think it's safe to assume it's the night before as Kevin ends up with Father Christmas at the end, well on one of his reindeer pulling the sleigh anyway. Surely the dinner will be all cold and the gravy congealed by the time whoever's it is sits down for it. I know, there should be a STFU button on here as well, I'll get my coat....

I am a pedant so "im" should either be "I am" or "I'm". Their meaning is semantically identical, but the contraction indicates informality relative to the non-contracted form. The pronoun I should also be capitalised irrespective of whether it is used in a contraction such as I'd.

Well, I'm not responsible for any of that, so there was no need for them to treat me in such a way. There is no excuse in my eyes. Behaviour like that will only put people off. I haven't given up on being charitable, I went to another shop (not Barnardos) right away and they were more than delighted, and polite in receiving such a donation.

Kevin The Carrot is the best Christmas advert this year. Inspired by this deal, I found a pattern on line to knit a carrot. I have made my own Kevin for the Christmas tree! I will donate to Barnados also, as my Dad and his 3 sisters spent years in Barnados when their Mum died.

Doesn't really matter - you've bought Kevin from Aldi, the profits from that have gone to charity, you can do what you like with him now he's yours. If someone's going to give you a fiver on ebay for him then why not. The only person losing out is the one buying Kevin for double the RRP.
I'd buy him if the money wasn't going to charity, he's a cool little carrot. Great marketing technique by Aldi, getting people into their stores before Christmas, and if they donate the profits to charity then everyone's happy.

Popped in an Aldi store this morning to see if they had any of these left, but was told they went in about 10mins, with people queueing for them.
Can see there are tons of them on ebay, for way above the purchase cost.
Nice to see people profiteering from items sold for charity - but maybe Aldi are also partly to blame for making these in such limited numbers - especially as they were being sold for charity. Surely better to make/have more, and thus sell more, then the charity wins?
