Title of the post is misleading ie single malt for £22.99. The 22.99 is for the blended whisky

I bought someone, a keen whisky drinker, a last minute gift of a bottle of Abrachan whisky from Lidl, and he was very impressed with it, and wanted to know where to buy more. I think it's £18 a bottle. It seems to be highly recommended by some experts, and has won awards http://malt-review.com/2015/11/02/3-lidl-whiskies

well, i'll drink to that! Ardbeg is a fantastic malt and I'm keen to try the Corryvreckan edition - Christmas is coming and all that..
I've been to Jura on a biking trip and seen the Corry on a beautiful calm autumn day, but not managed to get to Islay yet. A mate has done the world tour of distilleries on Islay by bike and highly rated the experience (and the drams  ) so its on my bucket list for sure.
I agree wholeheartedly re the diversity in whisky, more distilleries can only be a good thing! Great to see things like Gin coming from Islay too, although a night on the Gin and Whisky leaves you in a sorry state :man:

Plus of course I wanted to see Ardbeg come back to life (it was mothballed for many years) and give employment to Islay people & all the rest of the positive economic consequences

I'll be popular with you then - it was on my say-so that Ardbeg got sold and the distillery fired up again - the big guys were worried it would cannibalise our own sales but I'm one of many who genuinely love the single malt story and thought that Ardbeg would just reinforce interest in Islay single malts & help us all grow - I was right

All there at my local Lidl but the 22yo blended is £29.99 rather than £22.99 and the 28yo malt was actually 27yo.
The Nov 12 reference is from last year.

there was a full complement when I was there. I would get the 22y Islay and 28 y speyside as they are seasonal stock, they others are usualky in stock all year.

So they had the 22y and 28y on sale today even though it says tomorrow?

£44 for an 22 unnamed Islay is putting it in Lagavulin 16 territory. I would love to see a comparison from anyone who has tried both.

I'm sure last year's single malt was touted as a (Bowmore and i did enjoy it, but it wasn't "Islay" enough for me. I'm a TCP strained through fire ashes fan
Great deal though, i will buy some again this year, maybe try the speyside this time

I still laugh at people who buy drinks based on what an '' expert '' recommends. Why not just buy what you want and if you like it, buy it again!

because it can be a bit daunting spending that much money on something you are not sure you will like. You take their opinion as an indicator rather than conclusive proof as it is subjective.

I thought Aldi had the better whisky of the two shops? Not tried either myself but often see the Aldi whiskys at the top, or near the top, of various awards.

The 25yr blend has far more taste than the 34yr.

I got the 22yr old Islay - peaty but not as peaty as laphroig, goes down really well.
There has been talk that these whisky come from the big distilleries and are affectionately known as '**** brands'.

The 22yo blended is excellent, well worth a try, very smooth. Have bought the 28yo malt and the 34yo blended a while back but not opened them yet. If these were brand whiskies then they'd be about 4 times the price.
Opening post
could combine with Sunday newspaper offers (10 off a £50 spend) on 19th december
