Probably the best deal for a 65" OLED 4K passive 3DTV there is on a Black Friday deal. Topcashback 3.25% Quidco 2.75%
HDR but not Dolby Vision.
Free delivery.
5 year guarantee.
I caved in & ordered.
Good luck.

**AVOID - NO HDR OVER HDMI - NO 4K BLURAY PLAYBACK OR ANY HDR EXCEPT FOR STREAMING**

spend the extra £500 on the B6 or C6, believe me. They practically doubled the OLED brightness and you get Dolby Vision for future proofing

You're much better off spending £400 more for the C6. 2016 OLEDs are much improved in areas such as near blacks and uniformity and you get Dolby Vision.

Found out that the model code to see if it has HDR capability through HDMI is in fact ZD at the end where as ZA is not. So I'm happy I got a ZD , manufactured in August 2016.

Yes, they said they had 3 brand new in stock and I was the 4th order, so I guess I just missed the deal. Enjoy. I'm going to go for the C6V, it's 300 quid more expensive but comes with Dolby Vision.

Well I spoke to Sonic yesterday and the one I ordered is being fulfilled. It did say limited stock so I think the deal is expired I'm afraid.

I called Sonic this morning to enquiry about the serial number being either UA or UB and apparently after checking with LG, Sonic are unable to source this TV as it's discontinued so they are cancelling my order, please let me know if this is the same for you.

I came across this thread and apparently if the serial code on the box ends in UB and not UA then it has HDMI 2.0a (HDR) through that port already. So I'll ring them tomorrow and update if the deal is still on that is.

So I just bought the 65EG9600, and when I plug in the Samsung Ultra HD bluray player via HDMI and play "The Martian" on UHD bluray, the TV comes up with a pop up and says "HDR on". When I tried the chat window with LG support they said all the ports are HDR capable. So I am confused by the reports that the TV does not support HDMI 2.0a...  Does it or doesn't it ??

@Idahoryan Turns out the newer 65EG9600-UB DO have HDMI 2.0a ports. It is the older build of this television, the "-UA" models of the EG9600 that only had HDMI 2.0 ports.  Keep that in mind if shopping for EG9600 (new or used). You can see the -UA or -UB model designation on the serial number sticker on the outside of the box under the UPC code.

@Idahoryan Thanks for this bit of info.  :-)  I have the 55EG9600 with a -UB designation so I'm hoping the same applies.  :-)  I did notice an additional Deep Color function (on/off by HDMI port) which is operational.. Son is looking for the flat screen version of this (9500) and wondering if it is true there as well??  Can anyone with the 9500 confirm a -UB designation and if it works for HDR via HDMI?  Thanks again.."

Spend an hour reading up there are some very good free reviews out there. And also make some store lacky showcase the TV for you properly.

How does this model compare to OLED65C6V? I'm no pro when it comes to TV tech and would appreciate some advice. From what I can see the only difference is OLED65C6V has Dolby Vision, anything else?
lilstump to anthonynsinclair
27 Nov 16 1 #26
It doesn't spend the money get the B6V unless you sit in front of the telly and live alone. You'll lose the stupid 3D (a platform that fails on every revival) but the C6V is just as good I'm just bias to flat screens, when on walls especially.

Everyone has there opinions and your eyes are the only ones that matter. I still rock a VT30 plasma I'm moving to oled soon but waiting for more 4k content.
dinealone
27 Nov 16 #24
sooooooo tempted... shame it is curved!
ChromeMud
27 Nov 16 1 #23
So you need Dolby Vision on the content, the player and the TV in order to see any benefit and that means getting everyone to play ball for the license fees which inevitably hits consumers pockets, certainly not the industry. It has to be decoded and seeing as there's virtually no content out there I didn't allow that to affect my decision. I certainly don't rebuy my movies just because it doesn't have HDR, DTS Lossless or whatever is the hot topic of the day. I wanted 65" OLED 4k though at less than £2.5k and that's the deal. I hope people are informed, do their own research and make a decision based on that knowledge. Above all, get a proper demonstration with some 4k content on USB stick to see if it lights your fire.

It's all horses for courses. Dolby Vision is a branding exercise that is so vague as to have anything from 600 so called nits of brightness all the way up to 4000nits which no TV can currently reproduce.
Even Dolby Cinemas get away with lower than 600nits of brightness so I don't care much for that.
Just like the good old THX branding, a lot of people were willing to pay for that and a lot of money changed hands for not really major benefits. If Dolby Vision is important you should be looking at Samsung which offers the most nits but I'm not interested in old array backlighting which I currently already have had for the past 10 years.
The LG B6 models may sport Dolby Vision or higher brightness levels but they lost a 3D polarised screen and cheaper lower powered processors are used, ie a budget cut down version of the Signature range which includes 3D by the way.
You have to way these things up and demo for yourself. I can cancel my order now no problem but I won't because the TV has the features I want at the price I'm happy with and no more.
lilstump to ChromeMud
27 Nov 16 #19
You want 3D?!? Why.
d10brp to ChromeMud
27 Nov 16 #22
Dolby Vision isn't about max brightness, it is about how HDR filmed content is mapped to each displays capabilities. For example, if a film was mastered with a max brightness of 4000 nits and the TV only has a max brightness of 600 nits, you want the TV to find a way of squeezing the full detail up to 4000 nits to its capability. That means doing something called tone mapping. Dolby Vision has a great approach to tone mapping which means that DV content always appears consistent across different TVs.

HDR10 is the open source competitor to DV. The tone mapping is currently left to each TV manufacturer and is wildly inconsistent between them resulting in some very different images between displays. HDR10 has a lot of catching up to do and could do with standardisation between manufacturers.

At the moment then only mainstream TVs with DV in this country are LGs. Definitely not Samsung. Dolby need to get Sony and Samsung on board to gain traction, but if they do, it will surely become the standard HDR format.

3D is fun for the kids so it's a nice feature, plus you can use standard cinema goggles that cost a quid.
Not essential but LG offer 3D on their flagship sets. The future is HFR for High Frame Rate 3D which will be on HDMI 2.1 probably so yes 3D isn't going to disappear just yet.

thanks for that info and well done LG that's fantastic. It doesn't really help much though as for 2.5K you shouldn't have to put up with all that hassle and the amount extra you would get for 20% more of your outlay on this TV is incredible:

- huge increase in brightness by OLED standards (important for HDR - 0 to 350 nits VS 0 to 600/650 nits). Plus the increased brightness capability is very obvious in any content and seems to have really improved OLED's picture in general
- near black/vignetting issues are fixed, gone completely (this was the biggest criticism of the technology, now that they've fixed it people are nit picking badly). It wasn't quite perfect black but it certainly is now
- Dolby Vision HDR - this is huge, for a couple of reasons the first been that at present LG's OLED tv's are not mapping HDR10 (normal HDR) content properly (clipping 1000/4000+ nits sources) and LG don't seem to be doing anything about it. Dolby's HDR is mapping perfectly so this is a huge advantage over the 2015 OLED's like the one in your deal. The second been that from all the side by side comparisons that are available Dolby's HDR (DV) looks superior. Also it's just better in general it captures more stops of light equalling more detail and prepares the correct picture for the specific tv on a frame by frame basis (dynamic metadata). To top it off it does not rely on future HDMI versions for updates but uses it's own soc

it's nice to see 65" OLED at 2.5K brand new but the value is with the B6/C6 models. They are a much bigger jump than I was expecting in one year and I really don't want people regretting spending this much money. The Dolby Vision grading alone is worth the extra money but good luck with what you buy and thanks for promoting OLED!

wifi300usb you are correct but LG are now upgrading the HDMI boards in owners TV's under warranty so that they can show HDR through HDMI.
https://www.avforums.com/threads/lg-eg960v-owners-and-discussion-thread.1948687/page-325
As these TV's are brand new they may possibly be already HDR through HDMI.
Check out this review of this TV for reference.
