Crown paints are of the lowest quality I have found, from experience. Just my personal opinion.

Any good to apply to new plaster?
Ove bought some Screwfix no-nonsense stuff, but am suspect of it...

Contract Matt, which is what this product is, is designed to be a basecoat on newly plastered walls. It allows your walls to breath. Vinyl matt is then put on top of this. No idea if this cheaper contract matt is any good though. I would guess not.

fine for fresh plaster which is brilliant as it's cheap enough to save you messing around with thinning other paints.
the crown equivalent is currently 2 for £25 which is another good option

this stuff is great for new plaster, i would thin it with about 25% water then apply one coat as the base coat

Is this any good as do not know a lot about what is a good emulsion and a bad one?

It is a very good product. With bad emulsion the paint is thin and watery and will take you more coats to get a decent finish.
