Any good for the price or better to wait for Black Friday?
Edit: I think "LENOVO50" for £50 off won't work and is only applicable to a different model?
However, "LAPTOP3" seems to work, bringing the price down to £581.99, though I think this expires Sunday 20th.
Edit2: 10% quidco this weekend! Not sure if it's a good idea to combine with the 3% code above though??

Much better deal than that £850 Macbook Air from the other thread.
You don't get a load of Apple fanboys thrown in with this laptop either!

Where do I start...your 2600k has a mains supply, so power draw is not a concern. It has a TDP of 95W while the CPU in this model is 15W. Overall performance gains have stagnated for a few years now but performance per watt is where the improvement has been. Die shrinks (32nm -> 14nm) have allowed this power reduction. See here and here for more comparisons. Additionally the thermal constraints of being in a laptop body compared to having a large heatsink/water cooler in a tower obviously favour the desktop chip. Which will be 6 years old in January, so your desktop can't be as old as you think.
If you are looking for a high performance laptop then look for CPUs with the HQ or HK suffix, these are generally quad cores running at 45W such as this one.

I'm so annoyed, I spent ages looking at different laptops and prices and finally decided on this one to then find they put the price up by a £100 for black Friday :disappointed: Do you think it might drop again before Christmas? I hope it does :disappointed:

Back up at £699, I shouldn't of waited until Black Friday :disappointed:

Yes it is plasticky and screen is not too brilliant either but being a '3 in 1' convertible the hinges must be good enough. I saw one in flesh in currys and wasnt impressed by look n feel. Therefore went for the next model up (710) that has a full metal body and sharper screen.

I have this and paid £630 for it last month. Been very impressed with it. Touch screen is great, will play BF4 quite comfortably on low mid settings at 60 Hz. Battery life around 7 hours.

Whats the build quality like? Is it plasticky? Will it stand up to being chucked about in a backpack? Does it flex? Can it make banana muffins?

I'm willing to bet it is. It'll be optimised for 265 and the like, whereas the intel one won't be. I'm not saying it's born winner, but it will be better over all (very marginally) than the intel equivalent.

Pity they stuck a GPU that is almost exactly equal to the Intel 520, I'd rather save the £20 and battery life.

It would presumably have dedicated ram for the GPU so freeing up more system ram at least.

why can none of these laptops outdo my 7 year old 2600k desktop?! I'm dying for a laptop, but don't want a performance downgrade. I remember back when processors doubled in performance every year..... :disappointed:

Just realised I should be able to get this for £510 - hopefully get 10% quidco if I buy this weekend (£60), plus I have an Amex cashback card where I'm getting 5% back for the 1st three months (£30).
A no-brainer at £510??? Please advise people! (I know the quidco isn't guaranteed)

Like the Lenovos - 14" touchscreen, compact, backlit keyboard, but should be a lot cheaper with last year's CPUs. Agree with the comments about the stupid GPU too, just going 2 make it hotter & heavier. Anyone know the HDMI spec?

Yeah I saw that too, but figured i7 and double SSD for an extra £50 was worth it?? Don't claim to be an expert though.

There's the i5 version which looks to be pretty much the same for £50 less @ £549.99. The is spec here:
Opening post
8.5 hour battery
AMD Radeon R5 M430 graphics
Backlit keyboard
