accommodation is cheap in Krakow. You don't need to go on a tour for the salt mine - you can just get a public bus from town and buy a ticket at the entrance. Ditto for auscwitch. Well worth going to the city and the mine whether you buy this package or do it yourself.

My friends and I did exactly this. The hardest part was trying to work out where to buy a bus ticket from! I think we got it from a little newsagent type stand near a bus stop.
For Auschwitz, we hired a personal driver for the day. For £80, he took us out somewhere for breakfast, drove us around for a bit, then lunch at a traditional Polish place (it was out in the middle of nowhere and he had to order for us because no one spoke English, nor did they have any menu items in English), then to Auschwitz where he sat and waited in the car park for over 2 hours then took us back to our hotel. There were 4 of us so for £20 each, it was incredible service. If you go in a group, I highly recommend doing this.

But that doesn't work very well because the "referential respect" in the term "awesome" is combined with "fear or wonder" You might have "reverential respect" for the victims, but you wouldn't have "fear or wonder" of them. And you might have "fear or wonder" for the process that happened at Auschwitz but surely most people wouldn't have "reverential respect" for it?

From the OED - "awe 1[mass noun] A feeling of reverential respect mixed with fear or wonder:"
I don't think the most notorious Nazi extermination camp would command reverential respect in most people. Though some of those who inhabit Misc might have a different view.

the 'reverential respect' is for those who died, and the sombreness of the museum. I agree that Awesome IS an appropriate word.

Sadly I agree, we visited earlier this year and most people treated it as if it was a Hollywood set, taking selfies, laughing, smiling showing little or no respect for the millions who were inhumanly treated then systematically murdered.
Please if you do visit Auschwitz don't take a camera, learn from it and only take memories.

Yes because it touched me what the Polish Jews had to go through they were awesome for putting up with so much. I was there and I took it all in and I prayed for all of them. Awesome us a perfect word so don't judge me over a word.

For some it seems to be ok gettin vouchers but I stay away from these as whats the point in buying vouchers then finding the holiday you want aint available then guess what STUCK with the vouchers.

Probably would not use the word awesome but it is a place that everyone should try to visit just to reflect and ponder a while, especially in these troubled times.

"6. The representative will check availability, book and confirm your reservation"
Or tell you for your selected dates you need to supplement £###
I know it's cynical but buying tied in vouchers on the off chance of getting the dates you need sounds like a sure way of losing money

Not really that great price, I'm going for 4 nights in January from Heathrow on BA direct to Krakow and staying in a 3 star Hotel in the center of Krakow for less than the £149pp quoted. Krakow'S quite cheap to visit anyway and I have stayed at this hotel, which is mentioned in the deal, but it is not in the center, but there is a Tram next to the Hotel you can get into the Center. The only deal here really is the 2 nights, but sod driving and parking at Stansted just to, go away for 2 nights. The Salt Mine included in the deal is ok as I believe it's around £16.50pp, but I still reckon flying out of Heathrow is a better deal that's if you live nearby that is. By the way The Salt Mine is definitely worth a visit and is Awesome, but again as someone else mentioned, I would never describe Auschwitz as Awesome!!
