Given there is an iPad mini 4 out, is this still up to date, e.g with regards to support and updates etc? If not, may spend the extra and go for the air 2 for 349?

anyone recommend a decent grippy case for these?

John Lewis clearly didn't want to price match this (with the 2 year guarantee) as all of a sudden both colours have just gone out of stock, at the same time, unless they're about to drop the price! Cheers OP

I have the iPad mini 3 got it last year for £189.00 from Tesco Direct I have to say I only used it once or twice. The screen isn't wide it's just fat and top and bottom is black, the camera has no flash and no light, also there is no calculater and FaceTime doesn't even work so don't buy the iPad mini get the iPad Pro.

25 Nov 16#13
What do you mean the top and bottom is black? Is it a white/silver or black iPad?

25 Nov 16#14
I meant the screen isn't full size the videos are in the middle of the screen. Not like iPhone where if you watch you tube video then you can watch on full screen and my colour is gold to go with my iphone

plz note, this was released in 2013. Agree they are quality, but from my experience the OS update will make it slowdown in next 6 months.

What a ridiculous comment - it's a 4:3 aspect tablet like many others (Samsung's included) not a widescreen device, it's not like this is some secret. FaceTime works fine if you know how to set it up. A calculator app takes seconds to download if this is a big deal and who actually, seriously, takes photos on their tablet. And just to summarise your 'suggestion' is to spend over twice the price on an iPad Pro which is still not widescreen (so will have exactly the same issue with black borders).

Great deal. The iPad Mini 2 is more than capable for everyday needs and is still supported by Apple. It pretty much has the same specs as an iPad Air 1, iOS 10 is fine on it, no real lag and can play pretty much any app/game. 32 gig is a good size too. Heat!

It runs the A7 which is the same as the iPad Air 1st gen, but these are starting to slow a bit on iOS 9/10. Probably not noticeable if you aren't used to the newer devices (side-by-side) but something worth considering.

Yet again and example of the lowest form of business.
Bought one, paid and used vouchers, told no stock and "very sorry" so refund of cash within 3-5 days and vouchers within 30.

Don't try and call people as a very rude Scottish lady, apparently in charge of customer relations, will tell you that you know nothing of UK law and you will get a refund for a product they never had so what's the problem.
Tesco computer error costs customers money.
Lovely service.
Tescos Website is still selling through 3rd parties at £255 to earn them commission but this is nothing to do with them so that's fine then.

Is this still worth getting? Any idea how much longer this is likely to be supported for?
mattoligy to Juzza12
29 Nov 16#60
Well based on the fact Apple is still selling it in their stores I would say it will be supported for at least two years from the point they stop selling it! Look how long the iPad2 was supported... The mini2 is not slow or sluggish on iOS 10 in my experience it's not quite as snappy as an iPhone7 but look at the price, can you get any other relatively modern IOS devices in 32GB for this price?
Edit: I would however add, when new versions of iOS are released do NOT update until there is enough feedback confirming performance has not been effected! When I updated my iPad 3rd Gen to iOS8 it just completely ruined it, I ended up chucking two of them in the cupboard after the update as they we're unusable. Such a loss as when I finely dug them out again years later they were both dead! They were both top memory tiers as well... Apple are lucky I still purchase there products after that. I'm pretty sure there might be something untoward going on regarding updates on older devices forcing users to upgrade their hardware... Not good.

picked up the mini today - sweet! installing some apps now - a lot of the apps had originally purchased for the iPad 1 but didnt have time to play or slowed down to a snails pace after the last update they issued for it...
but our ipad 1 still has great battery life but saying that the mrs only uses it for skype / kids games occasionaly.
just need to get a kidproof case now for this baby and possibly some kind of screen protector
