Had a black friday newsletter today with this on. Looks a good £20 under the cheapest 1060 6gb elsewhere.

What ? This card is in no way a 4k gaming card. Not even marketed in that way at all... Get a 1080 or titan X for that.

I've been using them for years and always received great prices and service. They do a lot of facebook giveaways and newsletters with heavily reduced products for existing customers.

Ok thanks for the information. I was also wondering whether awd-it is a reliable website to buy from.

Is this the same as other gtx 1060's? As I seem to be finding it hard to find a reliable opinion on this card.

Ill pick my reply carefully here so my comment doesnt get attacked.
The GTX 1060 6GB is the best card in the price bracket. It's on par being the fastest all round, most certainly the most reliable. AMD has 2 cards which sit either side of this, but the reliability isnt as good.
As for 'holding off for the GTX 1080 to drop in price' this wont happen until the next range of cards are on the horizon, if at all.
And yes it's the same as other GTX 1060 6GB cards. There are some minor differences between brands / models but all have the Nvidia 1060 chipset.

I have an 960 and i5 6600k. I only really game at the moment at 1080.
Would like to get into VR one day, but will probably go down PS4 route as already have one.
Should i skip this years cards and see what happens next year? 960 seems to be alright, struggles with some games already though.

i'd wait a year and see what these cards are priced then, even second hand. thats my idea rocking a hd 7950

Next year's high-end cards will have the next-gen memory so they might be worth waiting for, but the mid range cards won't so don't expect them to be that much better than this year's.

Errr... you appear to have rotated your 1080P monitor around into portrait mode? (The 1920 is the x axis in 1080P. Unless you were making a joke that has whooshed over my head?)

If we follow the same naming strategy as '4K' then 1440p is 2.5K and 1080p is er 1k.
4k is 3840x2160 (or 4096x2160)
1440p is 2560x1440
1080p is 1080x1920.
It's the x axis that counts.

Not abt lack of understanding. But a waste of money to buy a non future proof card. Better off wait for Project scorpio or when gtx 1080 come down in price.

if the above is true - what would you suggest a newcomer to PC gaming ( i'm planing on building my first PC early next month) should buy in terms of graphics card?
- I have roughly under £1k to spend (i could push it if i had to)
- I am an industrial designer so the machine will need to render and be used for complex CAD modeling
- my current selection of parts looks like this: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/hysyVY (using BF and CM to reduce price further)
- aim is to make it as future proof as possible (4k is not a huge deal as i do not edit films
(note: GTX1080 is way out of budget)

It's true. I have seen people refer to 1440P as 2K.
And then be corrected.
2K has an actual meaning in terms of resolution. 1440P isn't 2K. 1920x1080 is, arguably, 2K, although 2048x1080 is a better fit.

Well i dont but you are clearly the moron.
People buy consoles and deal with 4k at 30fps and if the 1060 is all you can afford it will do the job fine in most titles at 4k and as i stated you can raise performance by reducing the settings. Next time use your tiny brain before opening your mouth.

If you use this card for 4k then you are a moron. Why on earth would you be ok with 30 fps ? Its a 1080p card. and maybe 1440p if you want some drops below 60. Even a 1080 doesnt play all 4k games at 60fps.

Industrial work first, gaming as a pastime/hobby. However future proofing as much as possible is somewhat key. My background has always been laptops (except the old win95 machine i had at parents house as a child)
Quadro Cards are stupidly over priced - The GTX1070 in the parts list is for reference, helps me know maximum prices
Why a M.2 NVME SSD? seems overpriced in terms of speed/storage/price ratio. read/write speeds do not need to be blazing fast for CAD due to many things i use being cloud/server based.

You want Pc gaming or do industrial work ? Your graphic card is overpriced. Change ssd to M.2 NVME Ssd...Samsung has the best one at the moment.

In no shape or form is the 1060 6GB aimed at 4k gaming.
If you want 4k gaming now, you need a gtx 1080 or higher.
I really don't understand the comparison, it seems like a lack of understanding.

The fps you will be getting at 4k with this card, would kill the experience, something like 1440p would be the sweet spot, as theres a big difference from 1080p to 1440p visually, but from 1440p to 4k its kinda hard to notice.

I believe 1440p is simply reffered to as 2k gaming.

2.5K gaming then ? :stuck_out_tongue:

Good price heated. An alternative for an extra fiver delivered is the pre-overclocked Gigabyte GTX 1060 OC 6GB mini ITX available from LaptopsDirect using the 'Which' trial £20 off code offer.

Its not marketed as one but you certainly can play at 4k. You can play gta 5 with max settings at 4k at a stable 30fps, lowering the settings a bit can increase performance considerably in more demanding scenes. This card is best at 1440p and below tho.
