It seems Tesco have found some Hudl 2's and they are £69.
Two colours are available Bubblegum Pink and also Turquoise.
These are new and NOT refurbished.
I would advise not updating to Lollipop as they run better on Kitkat. Mines on Lollipop and my Son's on Kitkat and his is definitely quicker and better battery.

I bought a magnetic charge port to stop the kids destroying the USB charge point. It cost about £7 but means they don't need to keep plugging it in to charge which is how most tablets seem to die in our house.

Great tablet for the money, my son has had one for 2 years and it's still going strong (had one screen replacement) easy enough to get bits for on eBay too.

Shame the charging ports are made of cheese. And this is from someone that generally is very mindful of such things! Two HUDLs owned in the family, both needed the ports replaced. Heat for the price though, a lot of tablet for the money.

Is that on the hudl2's? I've had the same problem on two original hudl's (hudl1), both need a second charging port module now, inside a year and half.

Nothing in that price range that won't suffer similar issues. If anything, I'd recommend NOT moving app data to the SD card, as it seems to confuse Android. I get the storage space messages and there's well over 500MB free.

Mine developed similar problem with a wobbly connection and not charging. Solved it with a bit of Sucru on the cable connector to give a stronger and more stable connection. Maybe not the prettiest solution but mine's used as a media streamer and alarm clock in the bedroom now so looks aren't important, how it works is and it works great.

These 'new' units are probably a couple of years old having sat in a warehouse. Personally I wouldn't want a Li-on battery that hadn't been charged over that length of time. It is bad news/damaging whenever a Li-on becomes fully discharged. And this is all on top of the legendary poor battery performance the Hudl 2 has.
The only plus point is you can still pick Hudl batteries up for around £10. But they might be cheap Chinese clones.

Also reading reviews on tesco site and lots of bad ones :disappointed: maybe I bit too soon
got a local specialist to source one. this was their reply today to the latest HUDL I have with them......
The battery arrived, it does have voltage in it, but when applied to your hudl there is still no kick off it at all. :-( The other customer's hudl we have in is exactly the same, so we're thinking it must be a design flaw/fault this is possibly why Tesco have stopped producing them. I know this is your second with us, but two of maybe a dozen or more with the same fault, initially it looks like a charging port fault, but the faulty port has caused a short on the main PCB, with no schematics available, the battery was worth a try. Sorry we couldn't help you this time. :-(
little_green
24 Nov 16#86
thanks.
are they safe to use/a good idea?
Adam786123
24 Nov 161#87
You need to find another specialists...only reason why tesco stop producing them is because they wasn't making money from them in fact ever one they were making a loss they wanted to sell the streaming side and app side but that didn't take off...The only design flaw is the port being not that well put together....battery discharging quickly is firmware issue...since android 4.4 is ok

Myself son hudle seemed to stop charging then back working etc. Was taking all night to charge. Thought it was a gonner. But a factor reset fixed it totally even replaced the battery as I hadon't already ordered1. Backnowledge to charging in a couple of hours and lasting few days. This is why I ordered 2new 1s today. All cases are different but if specialist had seen the problem so many times why did he have to change battery or port 1st to test the problem? I would of checked the so called problem 1st? Also new ports can be found on e bay for about 12quid if any1 is interested and easily dun check you tube. Every case can be different butility I believe that it is software. My dad has the odd problem but my mum never upgraded hers and has never had a problem in over a year. Goodles deal for a good spec

Sorry for the mistakes had 1 eye on my busy 3year old at the time and sent it without reading it over. But I'm sure you all get the point. After a factory reset problems went away if this was a hardware problem this would not be the case. All cases can be different but most people's problems sound similar very much like a software issue with them.
ben1979
24 Nov 16#91
And that was the problem, they replaced the charging port, no luck, replaced the battery, no luck. Not much else they can do for two hudls, and say all you want about the loss leaders that they were, that is common knowledge, from offset they said themselves they were loss leaders, but as you said, a known design flaw? I don't another repairer to tell me that. That too was common knowledge. They haven't charged me for the work, so I see no issue with what they've told me coupled with what has been documented on numerous forums about the subject. But the shop I took mine too have seen multiple cases of the same issue. Any wonder tesco dropped it like a lead weight.

Does the tablet run good even after 2 years after release?
andy444
26 Nov 16#102
I can't see whay you would have more problems from it being released a while ago. My son has had his 3years and been having trouble lately. Competed a factory reset and changed the battery for £10 only last week and seems to be running good again. My dad had had his for 2years with no problem and my mum never updated hers and never had a problem with it. That said a lot of people have had a lot of trouble with them too. But at the price of the tablet your looking at about £150 to match it. They are more heavy than the newer tablets but that said they are also a lot more robust! My son is now 8and his has taken a good few knocks. When looking at the other 1s in the shop I was worried how flimsy they seemed for him. He has said to me he would love another hudl2 but knows they no longer available also he's getting a bit doubtful about sant. So this find has meant a lot to us

right ok picked mines up. It's a xmas gift for the other half. I had been planning on booting it up & making sure it was all working but there is a screen protector on thats not entirely transparent & notes written on it so I dont really want to take it off. It',ll be too much of a challange to power it up & test it & leave the screen protector on, so I either not do this & leave it in the box until xmas so antoher month unused. But will it be ok? i'm afraid it'll cease up?

andy444
26 Nov 16#105
My son and dad has lollipop but my mother still has kit kat. My sons has had few issues charging but the reset solved this recently as we have seen vast improvement i dont think the battery was needed but as it was a there i decided to replace it.After this post I have asked my mother and father how they found they tablets. My father said he had the odd issue with charging once or twice but has corrected itself not giving any on going problems (his is 2year old in January) my mother has never had a single issue with hers ( hers is about 18months old) both use they tablets daily. I will probably not upgrade my sons new tablet to lollipop and see how things go as you can't go back but can always go forward. After all do you really need the newest platform for just general use and surfing in my opinion not.

Battery fix can be easily sorted you need to hold power button whilst pressing up button for a few seconds.get into recovery mode..scroll down using volume key to wipe cache partition and wipe it.restart hudl. Or scroll down to wipedata/factory reset this will get it to original state.
gazza1970
29 Nov 161#120
Right I've picked mine up yesterday,
I turned it on and it still had 25%left in the battery,
Once you switch it on and connect to the WiFi it then does a hudl update,
after this and once I'd logged into my Google account it then starts to update all the apps along with downloading android 5.1,
If you cancel the 5.1download then the apps don't update so like other members have said i just left mine to download it , I then got a pop up asking me if I would like to install the new software which I declined.
I've not had any issues by refusing the 5.1 update so fingers crossed.

gazza1970
30 Nov 16#122
I can't guarantee but as far as I know it won't update to 5.1 unless you click the agree button, I've just turned my Hudl back on and I've noticed at the top of the screen (left hand side) there's a star appeared and if I pull the tab down it tells me there's a new software update ready to be installed,
Adam786123
30 Nov 161#123
Continue with connecting wifi to initially update it..will load then restart..it will boot up continue to home screen it will then start to download firmware now you need to stop this by sliding left top side and long press the download it will come up with app info..click it and force stop and disable. then clear cache and clear data....It will stop the download and disable it....leave you with no notification of update.

less than impressed
right so i got the other half a hudl 2 for xmas which they have just opened & set up.
we didnt install the lollipop update due to various sources saying tablet shows down a lot when updated to lollipop.
unfortunatley it doesnt seem to be working propery. we were able to install facebook & messenger. messenger opens fine but fb just shows a white blank screen for seconds before crashing & returning to home screen.
also the main reason i got it for other half is to play candy crush saga but it comes up "device not compatible" i cant find anywhere that says the android version that candy crush saga needs but personally i though kitkat would have been acceptable.
can any one help?

The battery arrived, it does have voltage in it, but when applied to your hudl there is still no kick off it at all. :-( The other customer's hudl we have in is exactly the same, so we're thinking it must be a design flaw/fault this is possibly why Tesco have stopped producing them. I know this is your second with us, but two of maybe a dozen or more with the same fault, initially it looks like a charging port fault, but the faulty port has caused a short on the main PCB, with no schematics available, the battery was worth a try. Sorry we couldn't help you this time. :-(
are they safe to use/a good idea?
I had this message after changing the battery on the hudl2 had already dun a factory reset once so just dun another reset and it solved the problem.
Does the tablet run good even after 2 years after release?
i think a few people are in similar positions to me ie they are buying tablets as gifts - so what would you do?
I turned it on and it still had 25%left in the battery,
Once you switch it on and connect to the WiFi it then does a hudl update,
after this and once I'd logged into my Google account it then starts to update all the apps along with downloading android 5.1,
If you cancel the 5.1download then the apps don't update so like other members have said i just left mine to download it , I then got a pop up asking me if I would like to install the new software which I declined.
I've not had any issues by refusing the 5.1 update so fingers crossed.
Any one confirm the easier/safest way to avoid the update? Should i cinnect to WiFi initially or not. Just want to dou ke check to make sure.
right so i got the other half a hudl 2 for xmas which they have just opened & set up.
we didnt install the lollipop update due to various sources saying tablet shows down a lot when updated to lollipop.
unfortunatley it doesnt seem to be working propery. we were able to install facebook & messenger. messenger opens fine but fb just shows a white blank screen for seconds before crashing & returning to home screen.
also the main reason i got it for other half is to play candy crush saga but it comes up "device not compatible" i cant find anywhere that says the android version that candy crush saga needs but personally i though kitkat would have been acceptable.
can any one help?
i'm now feeling pretty friggen **** as the tablet was the main present & its f#cking useless
tbh not had any software probs so far with kids one theyve had for 2 years
what version kitkat is it on btw?
i've seen up loads of smart phones so its not like i dont know what i'm doing.
candy crush saga def works on it
now just downloading apps to test whether they will actually work this time or not
switched it off but when i restarted it i got process.com.google.process.gapps popping up continously. literally i press ok then it pops up again.
dont know what to do, feel this is beyond a joke.
the 35quid amazon fire tablet i picked up for mother black friday 2015 is more responsive
Thanks very much
