Booted up the little blue machine and runs quick and looks good! Screen is sharp enough, web pages load up quick enough. Both my girls like the colour, the maths whizz and bug club online studying sites work a treat, more than happy with spending £80!

Nah, this will baulk at HEVC/x265 and simply fall over at anything 10bit. For Kodi, stick to previous & latest gen AML-based Android box at half the price.

Simple surfing and thats about it. Have the 14 inch version. The 32gb eMMc storage will drive you crazy. I took mine apart right down to the motherboard but realistically no way to upgrade it. These things can best be described as clumsy tablets with a lid. If you want a laptop buy a proper one with a decent CPU and at least 500gb of storage. Otherwise buy a 10 inch tablet. The only plus point is that these mahines are so cheap most probably because of the shortfalls outlined.

At £80, this was a steal. Its a great little 'proper' first laptop for a child. Couple of things, There is very little of the 32Gb storage left with the default installation. So little, in fact that you cannot install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. I did a fresh install of Windows 10 on my Daughters (the Anniversary Version) and, not only does it run much better, it has far more of the storage available. Throw OpenOffice on there an its a very capable laptop for basic homework and online learning.

Misprice and Currys means orders get cancelled even if it says dispatched and out for delivery they still send a email to say order is cancelled. It's a no hope deal as my son was so excited when I showed him the laptop he was singing on the way to school and if they don't honour this deal I will have to buy another laptop for him because he will be so sad. Currys always do this I think Currys has to be banned from this site

You're right, these PCs come with a soldered eMMC module and 32GB is a poor choice on the part of these manufacturers. However, I have the Lenovo equivalent of this and with a 128GB fast microSD card I find it pretty usable. With Windows 10, a full Office install, and a few other bits and bobs I maintain around 3GB free on the eMMC and everything else is shifted to the microSD. Don't feel there's any noticeable lag accessing that, for instance 1080p movies play perfectly fine and even with large documents, even Excel sheets, the microSD performs flawlessly.

Seems to be out of stock now. Having handled one of these (it came in as a repair) it's a nice looking thing. Probably just fine to lob in a bag and do a bit of basic productivity on while not weighing you down and not forking out for a full blown ultrabook. Keyboard is fairly nice too. Nice find if you can get one. I wouldn't want to spend more than £100 on one of these small laptops but they're much better than the netbooks of 2010-era.
cazw1973
4 Nov 161#46

plewis00
4 Nov 16#47
I agree -£129 just seems a bit too much. £79-100 would have been a fair price IMO. Probably buy a second-hand one if I still want this machine now - there's some doing the rounds on Cash Converters for that kind of money (and before anyone says it should be fairly robust having no moving parts).

Well from what I have seen with the maths whizz website, it gives examples before the children can have a go for themselves and each question is helped with visual aids. Bug club helps with asking questions after the children have read a book. So I have noticed that it has helped with both my girls. But it depends on your children's school if they have registered with either of the two my girls use.
