Great price for this TV. Use it for working on and recent update gives it HDR mode although some fanatics debate the purity of the HDR. Get it now before it's too late!

Woo hoo! Thanks for making it hot. Enjoy your new TVs, I can vouch for that!

For the same reason a Skoda has 160MPH on the speedometer. Makes you THINK you can go really fast. You can't.

Just arrived (had to delay it by a day).
Easy as pie to set up, Netflix and Amazon 4K working fine. I'll give it a thorough test later when I'm not meant to be working!

Hi, It arrived today only ordered yesterday, It's been bought as an Xmas gift for me but was allowed to plug in and test, done the update and yes full 4K with HDR support, got the message pop up on Uncharted 4 for HDR, visuals are amazing.

Thanks for replying and Enjoy

28 Nov 16 #99
Yes the PS4 PRO is detecting 4K and when you play a HDR game such as The Last Of Us the PRO will detect the compatability. You have many options for screen res. Make sure to update the firmware in the settings.
I have the 49'' Hisense and ordered this for the man cave. Delivery on Wednesday so we shall see.

Another thing to note is I realise I have the 49M3000. The M3300's are supposed to be better. Newer model I guess.

28 Nov 16 #98
HI does the PS4 PRO detect as 4K and HDR compatible - any tweaks to the settings you recommend? as I have just bought the TV waiting on it being delivered, using on a Pro and as my PC monitor.
Cheers in advance

Sign up for a Flubit paid account(Elite), price offers are pretty much instant(takes hours on a free account) - means you can use it in real time for price comparison. When I signed up it was £15/year which they refund if you don't save that much. Easy to save loads of money even if you don't use it all the time - also they tend to deliver fast for Elite purchases, take their time on the free account.

27 Nov 16 1 #91
Opinions please:

I'm not particularly interested in smart or 4K right now (use a dedicated box anyway and no 4K content).

But this is keenly priced.

Would I be better off with this or an entry-level Sony non-smart 1080P (like: http://www.argos.co.uk/product/5203950 @~£280 after quidco)?

Thanks

It has the ability to process HDR, but the screen isn't good enough to display most of the detail in what's being processed, so you won't see it.

Don't know how people make this so complicated, it only takes a sentence
Hiltron09
27 Nov 16 2 #89
Yes it really makes a difference, particularly when used with camelcamelcamel and this site. Just checked my QuidCo account and cashback tracked plus 50% bonus so this TV was net £197.13 :sunglasses:

Make a Flubit account. Then place a 'demand' which is just copying a product link in and it will find you a cheaper offer via a 3rd party merchant. Complete the transaction by opening Flubit via Quidco and completing purchase. You have a cheaper offer and cashback too.

Was just about to reply with "not for me it isn't" only to see that, whilst it is still in stock, it is now £349 :disappointed:

At least that brings my choice down to either the JVC or Samsung 6020 now
Jams80
27 Nov 16 #83
Due to the marketing lies and subterfuge and general complexity of the tech, most people just seem to be understandably clueless as to what HDR actually means and what's required to display it. You need a 10-bit panel for a start, wide colour gamut and a brightness of 1000 nits to meet the required standard for HDR. Most TV's do not get anywhere near this, if the processing equipment of the TV cannot adequately process these images, the resultant processing will 'crush' the dynamic range of the image, which goes against the whole point of HDR. In the worst case, they may throw away bits, which will result in significant contouring of the gradients.
AdamBrunt to Jams80
27 Nov 16 #85
How did you do this ?

How do you rate it as a monitor? I assume you use it at it's native resolution?

Any input lag? Issues with viewing angles?

On previous deals it has been confirmed by users speaking to hisense that the 43 inch model in this range is a 10 bit panel,
Evouk
27 Nov 16 #73
You can't do neither, best to get a android box or Firestick tbh. The smart TV bit isn't the best as it uses its own app store. Netflix, YouTube, Amazon etc all work well. It does have Plex listed.
newmann
27 Nov 16 1 #72
Your eyes don't need training. They can already see that many colours but some tv's can't produce them which is why we see gradients.
Evouk
27 Nov 16 #71
I have the 43" version of this and for the price I can't really complain. Yes I know it's not going to be true HDR but it doesn't bother me in the slightest, if I wanted true HDR I would've paid a lot more. These peeps who slate this brand really need to grow up. I'm pretty sure most people realise you get what you pay for in this world so I cheap TV won't always provide the real deal. I will say the picture does require some tweaking (check out avforums for more info) as it's not great out of the box. Viewing angles aren't great either unless you're pretty much in front of the screen. But for £249 can you really complain?
AdamBrunt
27 Nov 16 #70
Can someone who owns this TV tell me if the app store on it contains either KODI and/or Smart IPTV ? Or, if it doesn't, is it possible to load apps off a USB stick ?
Jams80
27 Nov 16 2 #69
LOL, since when is pointing out facts preaching haha?? It seems you're one of those people who just don't like to hear the truth, and if you think most people know the difference you're sadly mistaken. Most people are gullible suckers for marketing when it comes to buying TV's... if they weren't, Currys wouldn't even exist as a high street entity! I've made it abundantly clear that I think this is a great deal and an excellent TV for the money, but bizarrely you seem to be somehow offended by the facts.
lothburn
27 Nov 16 #68
Cracking TV for the price, I use one as a computer monitor. For the cash it's a real Hot deals bargain.

No it's not 10 bit, for that go spend a grand.
HDR on all TV's is a con, unless you have a 10 bit panel. we all know this after following any 4K tv thread on this forum.

As a second TV or a computer monitor it really cannot be faulted at the price, Hell even as a main TV it's good.

27 Nov 16 2 #66
Go preach elsewhere, most of us know the difference but for a TV for the kids or second or third room this is a great buy. If you want to spend 1k plus on every TV you buy go ahead just stop rambling on about the bloody thing when people say they have the TV and like it.
bellboys
27 Nov 16 1 #65
You know this for a fact, do you?
Jams80
27 Nov 16 1 #64
Of course it does. But no one is an idiot for pointing out that HDR isn't fully realised on this TV, because it blatantly will not be. That DOES NOT mean you won't have a good picture. But if you were to put it beside a TV with 10-bit panel, wide colour gamut and 1000 nits brightness (minimum requirement for HDR standard) you would see a world of difference. These are just the facts. Still a bargain though, as you'd pay 3-4 times as much for a TV that meets minimum HDR standard.

Where are people getting the the Samsung 6020 for £285 from ?

I am after a main TV for the lounge but on a fairly tight budget so have got it down to 3 choices:

1. This
2. The JVC LT-40C860 for £236 [ after Quidco 12% cashback for the next 14 hours ]
3. The Samsung 6020 - for £307 [ after Quidco 12% cashback for the next 14 hours ] or £349 from Richer Sounds (but with 6 year warranty)

Decisions, decisions

I went to JL direct and they price matched. Samsung 6020 all day long. £285 good deal guessing AO new customer deal etc. Personally with TVs for me its JL or RS with the warranty etc. I heard sound is decent but soundbar if needed no bother.

Got the 49" for £211 from Amazon Warehouse a couple months ago. Very good quality (for the price) for 4K content. At this price it's not really up for debate about its HDR capability - just take a punt until the 10-bit OLED TVs come down to a more reasonable price range.

It's still a valid point... this doesn't even come close to meeting the requirements for HDR in terms of brightness or colour gamut. Doesn't mean it's not a good deal for a 4K 40" TV though, because it is.

I sincerely hope you mean a track, airfield or autobahn for the 144mph btw!
Jams80
26 Nov 16 #33
As I first stated, this is a great deal, no doubt about it. But anyone thinking they are getting a full HDR experience with this set is sadly mistaken. Sets twice the price can't manage that, but for what it is, yes, great deal.

For £249 I will take a risk ( and will get used to it too  ) . For my use as a monitor for media and everyday work on couple windows it will be excellent. 40" 4K monitor  - I would not find it cheaper anywhere.

But for a living room TV it also should be ok (especially at this price). I do not have big expectations from £249 TV.

How noticeable is a good HDR set to a lower end one to the untrained eye I wonder?
EmperorRosko to Hiltron09
26 Nov 16 2 #25
Well HDR content is quite slim at the moment, so unless you aim to buy a UHD Blu-ray player, Xbox one, or ps4 pro, you won't notice a thing. Many of the official games to support the PS4 Pro don't actually have HDR, they are just higher resolution. Just buy the best TV you can afford at the time of wanting one or you'll be waiting forever, for that perfect TV that does everything!
moneysavingkitten to Hiltron09
26 Nov 16 1 #30
The lower end ones can only put out about a 3rd of what the 'proper' ones can, which gives the contrast. It's the brightness you would notice I would imagine.
Hiltron09
26 Nov 16 #28
Yes I have a ps4 pro and a Xb1s so I do want to make use of them but really don't want to splash out silly money when the tech is only just getting up and running. I have the 55m7000 in the living room. I might just sneak that into the man cave!

Had the 50" a few weeks and is great for the price. My only critcism (ish) could be colours appear bit washed out if you don't watch centrally. Its not a dealbreaker for me but is noticeable at angles closer to the screen.
