Unfortunately android pay doesn't work with any Chinese phone. Having used android pay on my old LG g4 I found it to be more trouble than it's worth. Much easier and faster to get back card out. The other uses for Nfc are even more useless I found.

Hi, has anyone who got this rooted and installed any changes? I know there's a thread on xda but I've been reluctant to try so far.

I'm not too impressed with the camera tbh, my p8lite seems to be better (less noise better focus), up close its good which makes me wonder if it's geared towards selfies etc :disappointed:.

I read somewhere that if you hold the top right part of the phone to your ear, then the sound is louder.

Guys , did you know this phone virbates ?

ordered on 27 Nov, had an email to change colour due to lack of stock,

arrived 14 Dec.

First impressions - very zippy, very happy so far. Changed to Nova Launcher. Fingerprint scanner is a treat to use.

That said I have had no issues with my besides the phone call clarity being a bit off and being used to a better camera (before my LG G4) died.. but for me this is just a temp phone. It was either going to be this or the Xiaomi redmi note 3. Went with the Gigaset as its a quality looking product but supposedly gigaset arent making phones anymore so it will likely always be stuck on android 5.1.1. IMO for a non-temp phone a xiaomi might be a better option in terms of support in to the future

for anyone curious.. i can confirm this phone works with the 200gb sandisk micro sd cards.. as i've been using one in my phone (the description says the limit is 128gb)

I would have to agree with that statement. Indoors or in a quieter area its fine but I was out in town after work and really struggled hearing my friend on the phone. The phone has no speaker grill instead uses surface conduction which imo just sounds a bit muffled.

I think a grill helps the sound travel directly in to your ear where as the surface conduction method means (again imo) you are more likely to pick up other sound.. if you consider say trying to listen to something through a thin wall in a house (that is happening in the room through the wall).. your ability to hear whats going on is impacted by how loud the room your in is (eg being in town that time made it difficult to hear due to background noise).

This is of course all solved if you use a bluetooth headset or some other means of listening to a call (eg microphone on some headphones etc)

sorry should have mentioned i had same problem , went to local phone shop and guy used a machine to cut it for free for me from normal to nano.

Yeah that's the type of case I usually have but as I say the screen pertrudes and even tho it's probably the toughest part of the phone I'm worried about it cracking

I've ordered the samecase so hopefully mine's not scratched when it's received. I've not yet received my phone, although had a card from postman today so think that's it.

I've gone for a leather wallet style case since the screen pertrudes from the body and I do drop my phones quite a bit. Would like a full rubber protective case but haven't found any.

bought a case for this phone from AMAZON and it arrived today but it had marks/scratches on it ,gonna send it back to amazon , btw anyone else noticed how slippery this phone is ? its fallen to the floor 3 times already haha

Got this phone in the post today.. everything works great except the phone doesnt seem to have an 'apps drawer' button at the bottom next to contacts and browser.. all the icons for the apps I've got installed seem to be on the home screen plus some additional ones.

Has anyone managed to re-enable this?

I ordered on the day this was first posted, so about 11 or 12 days ago - despatch email on morning of 13th. I didn't change the default shipping from Air Parcel Register.

Not tried it much yet, but the packaging and accessories certainly are what I would call premium! The IR remote software works fine with my Panasonic and Phillips TVs, not yet tried anything else. It has Google Play on it. Slightly oddly the protective cover you remove before use which identifies all the ports on it is in Chinese (English reviews of the phone have an English cover), but it has an EU ROM.

I did lol, Gigaset is an established reputable company about 10x the size of one plus and its parent company Siemens about 500x. UMI is a bedroom company in comparison. This phone was designed to be a serious alternative to Samsung and LG etc and it's components have serious r&d behind them.

The online video reviews are a bit underwhelming. Sound quality and phone reception seem pretty dire. I'm not a fan of how it looks much either. Decent specs though. Shame.

Who said anything about inferior build? The UMI Super has very impressive build quality, I've never seen the Gigaset in the flesh so cannot comment on that.

30 quid more for a phone with a much worse camera and inferior build because it might get an android update seems backwards to me

Good price for quite a lot of phone but there were a few things which put me off:
- custom ROM support is patchy, you can root it but very tricky process.
- quite big for a 5" phone, approaches the footprint of some 5.5" phones.
- made by a German company who are out of the mobile phone game now, so no future support.
- instead of an earpiece it uses some sort of funky "sound induction" technology to transfer sound waves to your ear, though you can apparently "listen" from any part of the phone's top surface! Could be cool, could be pants.

I'd be interested to hear opinions from anyone who owns one.

Still coming up as GBP 104.87 for me but you need to change the default currency to GBP.

The camera spec on this seems really good and not worried about overheating as I don't use for gaming. On the other hand the umi is newer and likely to get updates and I have had a few Chinese phones before so quite comfortable with flashing Roms... decisions decisions

Yep this is a great deal, the spec for the money is unreal even for a Chinese phone.

I have heard rumours that Gigaset are stopping making phones so perhaps there won't be a great deal of support going forward but as this is Snapdragon the mod community will probably be all over this.

Unsure whether the 'Snapdragon 810 overheating' issue is still a thing?

Then my plan was to just get one that gained uber heat!!

Yeah. Sounds good. I here some just get a flip case with card holder for the Nfc bank card, or slide bank card in phone pouch. You can cut a slot in pouch and secure a second card inside. I struggled with android pay to be honest, I constantly found myself paying with wrong card and knocking phone on terminal.
