I'd say the Horde mode implementation is excellent but the community is currently terrible, there's a lot of quitting (even before the first wave) and unfortunately rather than go for a shorter version it's still 50 waves which takes a long time and most people will quit long before you hit the later waves.
The basic horde mode is the same as GoW3 and still feels very similar, the differences now though is you have five classes, you have to pick up the currency and you can build fortifications wherever you want. There's crossover between the classes so each class can do the function of another just not as well so an engineer can pick up a sniper rifle but the sniper gets huge damage boosts for headshots, using precision rifles etc. As you play the game you get more XP which simply allows you to equip more skill cards (up to five at once) and you also earn credits you can use to buy loot boxes which contain random skill cards. You can use duplicates to upgrade that skill or you can scrap them to buy cards to upgrade other skills instead.
I was concerned about the loot crates and the class skills but even though you can buy them with normal money, you earn them at a decent rate and your character starts off normal so the additional skills are a bonus and make the class more fun to use. My soldier for example does 40% more lancer damage, 100% active reload bonus, double the ammo capacity and 45% health bonus when in cover so the Lancer does a serious amount of damage and the soldier can hold out longer at the front.
The catch of course is that if people don't play their class, the game quickly becomes frustrating and unfortunately it's regularly what happens in public games. I'd been a Scout who gets a huge currency bonus and should be the only one picking up power but no-one would let me and kept rushing to do it themselves, on the next game there was no engineer so I changed to an engineer as I currently have huge repair bonuses and cheap turrets. On that game the scout and soldier kept buying the repair tool (5000 each, the engineer gets one for free) and sitting on a turret and paying to repair it - that meant we weren't getting the power bonuses from the scout and wasting lots of currency because the soldier/scout kept repairing stuff while I was trying to.

Good price, I'm going to wait until it's £19.99 though as I saw it was free with new consoles. I bought the elite from Tesco for £179 so will bide my time.
I only okay multiplayer and gears lasts for years so it's all good.

Think I need to get this sooner rather than later as I've noticed some serious 'rubbish' going on with GOW3 lately. Retrocharges go right through opponents. Often I've had 3 or more opponents in a tight bunch around a downed team mate and direct hits with boomshot or frags right at their feet don't even get the opponents to give out a damage sound. I've had the same happen with the boom vs one opponent a few times - direct hits but no kill. Torque bows again right through a clump of opponents over and over. Point blanks with gnasher and sawed off again apparently no damaged sound from targets. I've played this game a lot and haven't seen anything like this before.
So I can't help but feel they are trying to push people to GOW4.
