Saving you £139 (and that's the offer price - they're usually closer to £150).
Basically, buy a really decent phone, get the not so decent one free to give as a pressie! Win win.
I've had both of these phones and you won't find a more comfortable to hold 5" phone. They're both almost identical in terms of dimensions - the Xperia X is actually slightly thinner in depth despite MUCH better specs than the E5, and also a much better camera.
Both mid-2016 phones.

Meet the zte axon 7  .. 349 from amazon i believe
Sony have a pretty good rep for keeping their phones upgraded - if it's the OS you're referring to.
The XZ is the better phone but it's looking more like back to the old Z-line and those were bit too big for me - depends what you like. I'd choose Sony in an instant over cheapy Chinese phones. I mean, yes Sony charge extra for the name but it is a fact their build quality is solid. They had a little dip recently when apparently the M5 didn't even have a heatsink but that kind of gaff has been resolved now. And yeah the XA Ultra is just a big 6" version of the XA basically, and 6" is almost a tablet. Oh and also I don't believe any of the cheapy Chinese phones have dual front facing speakers - the X and XZ do - and I'd hate to be without now.

Ah yeah, thought as much, guess the XA ultra is a no-go too? See, I've never had a sony phone before, but the X/XZ looks good. How does this compare to a Xiaomi or other Chinese based phones, as they are on my upgradable list too? Thanks man.

What's peoples opinions on the Sony XZ/XA? tempted to get it as my next upgrade.

DO NOT get the XA - it is in no way related to the XZ. It's a much lesser X, basically. The XZ is amazing in terms of camera and specs but I'm perfectly happy with my X.

Cool, I'll have to check out the new metal back phones. Funny because Sony gets slated for the glass backs- I was a fan but definitely a fingerprint/scratch magnet but Huawei gets plaudits for the Honor 8

Nougat could be unlikely but you never know. The other thing I HATED about the Z line was the glass back - way too easy to scratch or scuff without even trying. The metal backed E5, X and of course XZ are such a relief. Once I had experienced the E5, and found out (after having the Z5) that the X was almost exactly the same dimensions, I knew I had to go for it. You're right about subjectivity for sure though.

Interesting, I'm sure that would've been sorted out with a protective case, as was with my z2 (and a case is must for Sony phones). As for the size, I'm sure that will be subjective to each user...some love a 6 inch phone. This just feels like a bit of a downgrade, from having flagship specs and waterproofing. They even replaced the xperformance with the xz. However, must commend Sony for their updates. My z2s got marshmallow, no idea about nougat though

The z5 is probably better than this. This is really overpriced for the specs. I'm a fan of Sony - really liked my z2 but it was all downhill after z3. They're charging 399 for a phone that's not even their 2nd best offering. Phones with the snapdragon 650 go for 150. And the battery size.....

In terms of raw specs yes the Z5 is better. But I HAD a Z5 then returned it cos it was just so damn uncomfortable to hold and too big to be comfortable. This performs pretty much the same. Benchmarks aside (who actually buys their phone for benchmarking) day to day the X is pretty much perfect.

I have a 2 year old z3 compact, so tempted by this...

DO IT. :stuck_out_tongue: I had a Z2, then once my Zenfone finally cracked, instead of buying the X I went for the Z5 - mistake - sharp edges made that impossible to be hold comfortably for any length of time and for it it's just too bulky as well.

Seems pretty decent to me. The E5 is still a fantastic phone. I work for Tesco mobile and they're pretty popular, heat from me

ALL phones from the last 5 years look the same. Not a huge amount of scope to play with
