Free 4gb smartphone when you purchase a £20 (min) top up from EE

If you scroll down to the very bottom of the page you can buy it with a regular £20 top up instead of a EE pack

If you're planning on selling the phone to CeX, you can sell the device for £25 instead of £21 by unlocking it with a 99p code from eBay. Every little helps.. or so the rumour goes!

Could this be used as £20 worth of play store credit with a free phone thrown in or do you have to buy a 7 or 30 day package to use and/or set up EE billing on the play store?

You have to choose a package (the cheapest one is a £1 a week) but you can stop it renewing & use the rest of the credit as you wish.

I'm confused sorry to be dense but is this a payg deal?

EE site quotes...

.

Pay as you go

If you’re on pay as you go, you can unlock your phone as soon as you get it, as long as it’s locked to EE, Orange or T-Mobile. Your pay as you go account must be registered with your details for us to unlock a pay as you go device. Register or manage your account >

You must also ensure the device has not been reported as lost or stolen.

There are no charges for unlocking for pay as you go devices bought from EE and our indirect partners. We’ll need to check other devices to confirm where and when they were bought.

So the phone will be pants. 4gb memory with 512mb ram. Oh dear.

However using the thoughts above.....

Buy £1 weekly pack. Cancel as soon as arrives.
Use rest of credit on play store. Spent £19,waster £1.
Sell phone to cex for £21 (think I've matched model number to 4034x but can someone confirm?) .
That leaves you getting £19 of Google play credit effectively for free and a couple of quid too.

As far as I'm concerned the order IS complete, so I don't see what they need. What info are they after?

Zanderman
28 Nov 16 #63
Yes, spoke to them after a long wait yesterday. It was just for one phone. Bloke initially said they needed to check details - mentioned delivery address needed but then, after I pointed out he had all this info in the email they'd sent entitled 'successful order', he changed his story and claimed their system hadn't got all the payment info and he needed the security code from the back of my card. I wasn't convinced he wasn't just making things up - though with what aim I couldn't say. He may have been correct - but as he couldn't explain it and had asked for different info originally I think he was just busking it.

I declined to give him the security code, partly because I thought it could be interpreted as negating the online completion via TCB, and partly on principle of not casually giving out a debit card security number. I had already submitted all the required info and he couldn't give a proper explanation of why he needed this bit, the most secure bit, again now. He denied the cashback would be a problem, but I just told him I'd prefer to cancel if he wouldn't proceed without it. So the order was cancelled.

And then I re-ordered online.... Will see if they try to go through the same process again!
Laura Palmer
28 Nov 16 2 #64
I just received the phone and payg sim. Instead of there being a voucher to apply to a sim there was a slip saying that the £20 topup would be added to your account within 2 days. As I wanted the credit to go onto an existing payg sim I rang to check which sim it would be applied to. They said the new one. So as a goodwill gesture and because I had been told i would get the topup as a code so I can apply it to my old sim they applied a £20 credit to it. Apparently the £20 will still go onto the new sim.
So I spent £20, will get £9.50 cashback, got a phone and a new sim with £20 credit plus a £20 credit on existing sim. That can't be sniffed at can it !

This has been a complete nightmare. Ordered the phone online last Wednesday and had the order declined 3 times. Was later advised by a member on here that this was probably because I was using Amex. I then tried MasterCard and the order went through. Two days later I started getting multiple texts saying I need to contact EE to complete my order. Called EE and they said my orders were not completed and I need to give them my payment details again to complete the order. I refused and said I had already done this online. They now checked their system and said all the Amex ones went through despite their site saying they were declined. In the end they cancelled all the orders except one.

Finally they dsispatched the phone to store for me to pick up which I did yesterday. Came home inserted the sim to phone and No Signal. Tried it in another phone No signal. Called EE and they claim that there is is no record on their system that the sim belongs to EE. Further more no £20 except some paper that's says it will arrive in 2 days.
EE place me on hold to speak to sales then they cut me off. I call back, they place me on hold then transfer me to India then cut me off. I call back get the same woman who's been cutting me and she says oh sorry there must be a problem with our lines. Finally she says oh I can't help you but the sales team can bit erm their closed right now can you try again tomorrow?

So currently no signal and no £20 or any record of it. It's turned out to be a great waste of time.
On a plus note the phone seems decent and quite small.

29 Nov 16 #70
I had this. Rang them and it turns out that the online orders have to be input by hand by their own operatives. The excuse for requiring a call its to check that the details are correct ie address, date of birth (they don't ask for bank details). I think it's really a response to the upgrade scam recently.
Zanderman
29 Nov 16 1 #71
They do ask for bank details - see my earlier post. But I think they're just making it up as they go along. So I wouldn't like to guess why they're doing it. If it's just to check address etc details they could, easily, just say that in the text and email requesting a call - which would give us a reason to ring them.

As it is, their email confirming a 'successful order' would appear to be a complete sham. My replacement order, following my cancelling the first, got the 'successful order' email and now, today, I've had the 'we need you to ring us' email and text. I'll ring tomorrow - and see what story they try spinning this time...
mrty
30 Nov 16 #72
They didn't ask for bank details from me..in fact they went out of the way to say that they weren't asking for bank details. I reckon you must have been one of the first batch and they were just 'winging it'.

Complain, with all the details, via their website system.
I had the same problem, phone arrived and was fine - but sim was apparently dead, no service at all, number 'not one of ours' according to EE's website registration (an unbelievable excuse!) and, as it was dead, there was clearly no £20 credit.
Sent online complaint weeks after the order (it had been a Christmas present so problems not discovered until a month after ordering) and, after a couple of calls back and a replacement sim, all sorted.
Completely awful service in the first place, but can be fixed if you perservere.
