A sim only deal on a 2 year contract? No thanks, even if it is good value.
2 years is handset contract length and the main selling point of sim only contracts is that they are usually up to a maximum of 1 year.
From Techradar's own article: "SIM Only deals are usually the best option for those people who are out of contract but want to wait a while before they upgrade,"

I don't understand why people are moaning about this being a 24 month deal....I get the fact that 12 month and monthly rolling deals are more flexible but if you find a good value 24 month deal you are locking in to a good rate for two years. I doubt there'll be many deals available with shed loads of 4g data at this price. Hot from me!

I much prefer Sim only 30 day rolling contract which you can cancel anytime with 30 days notice. This deal ok for £300 all you need is a phone for £600 then your looking at a normal contract

Nice one! Is this including VAT?
I pay £16pm for the same except with only 4Gb EE data for the past 2years.
As I now mostly only use data at home whilst connected to wifi and occasionally on my work breaks I only need 2Gb min data for out and about so this will save me a few quid :sunglasses:

If I could rate this ice cold I would. A 2 year contract on a plan that's, bar the data, worse than many monthly sim only contracts?
Incidentally, look out for Virgin Media sim only contracts over the next few weeks. They're going to release one with 5GB of data and 2500 minutes for £10/month I think.

That's an odd way of looking at it. The 12 month contract would just carry on the same probably.
Both contracts could go up in price. Being locked in for 24 months is not a bonus, especially if a better deal with another provider comes up in the meantime.
Regards 4G, it should, bar yet another delay, be available on Virgin soon. I'm not a fan of Virgin though mind.
slaha11
5 Nov 16#27
24 months is too long a period to get locked in a contract, unless it gives you a handset. I am already tired of my 12 months, after 5 months. they won't let me upgrade, even if same price now offers better value.
what is great today, won't be after a year anyway, as atleast your data use will anyway increase.

You can upgrade your EE Sim Only contract after 6 months.
So to everyone saying its a bad deal, think of this, 7gb per month, cheap price, after 6 months upgrade if you need a new phone, or continue with the cheap price (still being able to upgrade any time). In all honesty, if your phone works, have a cheap plan, enough data, why does the term matter when you could upgrade if you needed to? By all means pay £26.99 for this on a 12 month plan or be with a different provider.

EE just keep throwing free data at me on their sim only so this could work out to be a very good deal indeed if they do the same to other customers too.
I'm now on 6GB of data for £10 a month because they messaged me one day 6 months ago and said hey, have some more data for free on loyalty, just ring us up. I did and said what was the catch? They said none, nothing changes, no contract extension, 6GB of data, done.

5 Nov 161#58
The fact that this is a 24 month deal is good for people who only ever use SIM-only and buy their own phones which is usually a much cheaper option. I haven't seen a decent phone contract deal that tempted me for ages.
I'm currently on the twelve month £20 for 20GB per month unlimited voice/text Vodafone deal discounted from £40 per month with cashback and Netflix. In a few months I've got to go though the hassle of haggling with Vodafone and finding a new deal and leaving them if necessary. If I forget, I'll end up paying £40 per month rather than the approximate tenner per month I pay after cashback/Netflix/discount. Similarly, take the BT Mobile deal and unless you haggle or move, you'll lose the financial benefit of the cashback/vouchers after 12 months.
If a deal like this is around next time my contract is up, I'll be tempted. I've got to sort out a SIM-only deal for a friend to go with her p9 lite. I was going to put her on the 4GB EE £9/£10 per month contract (which will double in twelve months without action) but now I'll probably put her on this deal so that she or I don't need to worry about it for two years.
Don't forget new EE contracts come with six months of Apple Music for free.
Also, if you place the £12 EE deal in your Carphone Warehouse basket, then close the tab, go to TCB/Quidco and then go to Carphone Warehouse, the SIM deal will still be in your basket so you can then buy with £10 cashback.

Aren't all mobile phone contracts these days just a mechanism to pay off a slightly subsidised handset over a two year period, along with some meaningless amount of texts and calls? Data is everything now, and the last thing they can make a decent whack out off, and the more public wifi hotspots grow, the sooner the networks' operating models are knackered.

Depends on the terms of the 'contract'. If the contract was made in-store (and is not one that falls within the purview of the CCA 1974), then no, not necessarily.

Have been on contract with occasional upgrade for years. Just bought a phone outright. Looking for a SIM only deal specifically with EE because they have the best coverage in the places where I use the phone the most. Previous contract had 250Mb of data which I have always stayed within, but I'm constantly wary about it. This offer seems tempting to me. Is life in the 12 month / rolling 1 month world really that much better than what this is offering? Or is this kind of offer the last throw to lock people in before a seismic change happens?

And for comparison, am I right in thinking that the equivalent plan on the EE site is £26.99 per month?
Everyone already is an existing customer to a network provider.
Point is you can get better deals with any network provider that you are attached to if you kick up enough fuss through retentions.
pez555

Spud211
6 Nov 162#76
Great deal - i'll look at swapping to this as I am paying £14/mo for 4gb currently with EE.
I don't get why the 24 months is a problem - £12/month is a great price for that amount of data/calls/texts, and it's on the best network in the UK (for 4G data speeds). O2/Three/Vodafone can't come close from a data speed/quality perspective, especially if you live in a big city. Not bothering with the MVNOs either as they often have limited access to the "official" networks so to speak which may mean limited rates/speeds for those MVNOs for a period of time.
I have not changed my plan in 2 years thus far as i've not seen anything better..until this. I buy phones sim free which is a lot cheaper than a typical phone+sim combined contract,so all I want is a bunch of data on a good quality network. This fits the bill perfectly.
Unless you are expecting EE to come out with an even better deal in those 2 years, can any of the moaners explain why it's a problem? Would understand it if this was a handset+sim deal, but as sim only..doesn't make sense.
have some heat OP.

I've just taken out another 12 month with ee for the same reasons. Wifi calling is a god send in my house. For me personally a good deal is getting more then what you currently have and paying less, thats why i didnt bother when they had that £20 for 20GB and unlimited texts/mins. 20GB would be great but not if i have to pay an additional £6 per month.

With EE contracts do not go on the same unless it is a standard contract. Last time I went out of a SIMO the price doubled after 12 months.

If you sign up with CPW on EE can you keep your current EE phone number? Using a PAC tends to be for porting from one network to another. Porting to a PAYG sim first then switching it immediately back onto CPW EE is an option, but a bit of a faff. Just wondered if anyone has managed to internally port between EE and CPW EE. The advertising page says it's a 12 month contract as well as it's a Data Sim. The order page says it's a 24 month contract which EE have said they don't offer on Sim Only plans.

Hi guys,
Just to let you know my SIM arrived and when I checked online with EE it also said 12 months MAX @ £26.99 per month. I phoned Carphone Warehouse and after a while they said they would honour it and it will take 3 to 5 days to update on the EE system. (I will hold my breath...not) .
I also phoned EE and the girl said that makes sense as there is an offline team at EE that only deal with Carphone Warehouse.
I will wait and see and keep you posted, although I have to say I can see this being a drawn out saga lol but hopefully I will get it as for me it's a great deal, maybe not for everyone though.

Really irritated on this. Car phone warehouse should be reported to BBC watchdog for this screw up and the poor handling of it. Just had the same text message, followed by a phone call from carphone warehouse. anyway my number is being ported over to orange tomorrow an all - its a real real mess
Basically this is the maths24 month contract
(YES 24 month Contract, dont be fooled!)
what the deal was: £12 x 24 months = £288
What they are offering NOW 24 months at £26.99 = £647.76 - £188 = £459.76
£459.76 - £288 = £171.76 extra
or instead of charging us £12/month it will be £19.16/month
devilsadv0cate
9 Nov 16#194
It wasn't explained very well over the phone to her.
The upshot of it is when we called back again they've changed their stance and said that the £188 would have been given if the SIM was activated. My wife's wasn't...
We've took the £20 compensation and let the SIM be cancelled.
Zrobla
9 Nov 16#195
Apparently the £188 is to refund the second year of the contract which they're removing (since it's actually a 12 month contract) - that's how I understood their terrible explanation anyway.

I got same text as you guys above and received a phone call from CPW earlier today.
They said the same spiel around it being an error and that they were willing to offer the following:
I pay £26.99 for 12 months They pay me [(26.99-12)*12] = £179.88 + £20 (compensation) = £199.88 today
I clarified the entire situation and specifically confirmed that this would be a 12 month contract and I could cancel after 12 months.
Was I being lied to? What have others been told as it seems some have been told it's still a 24 month contract :S
not_the_messiah

I've got the same as you guys! Basically they are saying it's a 12 month contract I will have to pay £26.99 a month. They will refund me £188 at a date unknown.
My question now is
1) Where do I stand if I dig my heels in and say we have a contract for 24 months at £12 a month?
I believe from research on the internet this would hold up in court
Any ideas??
zeeshm
10 Nov 16#204
I contacted watchdog as I was told by the advisor on the phone that this 'glitch' affects over 300 customers. I did the maths and the difference in price is (£26.99-£12.00 ) times 24 months times 300 customers and the amount is approx £107,000. While it's not a small amount, for a huge company such as this you would think they would be more concerned with brand value versus destroying their reputation.
Under the distance selling regulations, you were offered a price point and by them sending it through the post and you activating the sim they have entered into a contract with you. However I'm sure buried in the terms and conditions there is something about changing price points at any given moment.

Spoke to two advisors today Iyam (think thats spelt right!) and a guy called shaun
Shaun was useless - made it out like it was my fault for buying this deal, 'i should have waited a couple of days before porting my number over' WTF?!?!?!? and that the recovering my number via pac would take 3-5 working days, shaun was absolutely useless, he also hung up on me.
Iyan on the other hand was brill. apologised then instantly put me at ease saying i was unfortunately one of many, he then initiated the cancellation request, and advised that i didnt need to return the EE sim to the carphone warehouse store and that i could use the EE sim (now with my ported number) until my pac is provided by text in 3-5 working days, (but just not to exceed the allowance) also that i was entitled to a £20 voucher or £20 cheque (which he will post out).

Not accepting their deal or Not leaving the contract is possibly the worst thing you can do. Remember it was priced incorrectly on the site, the actual price is £26.99. So by not cancelling the contract or taking up their new contract ( which works out even better for me than before). You will be paying £26.99 a month.

"That's funny that is. When I rang up and on both occasions spoke with 2 foreign people they put the phone down on me!! Was fuming!! Really poor customer service from CW.
With regards to naseemmuglihi I personally think your an employee with that nonsense. Better deal 12 months? Accept what they have offered? It seems tonne quite easy these days to go to small claims court. I have also reported it to BBC Watchdog!!
For what it is worth I just thought I would add the details of my experience as to say the least it is comical.
Sunday Nov 6th order this deal online and get email confirming everything.
Monday Nov 7th receive SIM set it up and notice it is now £26.99 for 12 months.
Monday phone CPW who say they will honour deal and let EE know and ask me to email them with proof of the email I was sent. They tell me it will update on EE systems overnight. I send the email and copy in EE Customer Services. Within ten minutes EE phone me to apologise on CPW's behalf, put a stop on £26.99 coming of on the 15th Nov by direct debit and put £10 on my EE PAYG Account.
Tuesday 8th Nov I phone CPW as still not updated on EE website and they tell me nothing has been sent to EE but they will now do it.
Tuesday 8th afternoon I get the dreaded text to say mistake made and to call....let's just say two yes two hours later and various departments nobody knows anything about it and yes they hang up.
Wednesday 9th Nov CPW phone me to say they cannot honour deal and offer me £20 compensation and to cancel the contract...I accept as by this time I am totally shattered with it all.
Wednesday 9th Nov CPW phone again and leave a message from a very happy chappy (I wish I could post the audio) to say "great can you contact us we are honouring the deal".
Wednesday 9th I call CPW and guess what I get the dreaded "don't know what you are talking about"
If nothing else the whole experience has been entertaining talking to someone in an obscure country called Shannon or Danny...you honestly could not make it up and if you are reading this CPW then please feel free to contact me, if nothing else I am sure it will be quite funny...my transaction id was 367195381

Bladders9126 , I'm now paying £10 a month. They offered to pay the difference of ,£26.99- £12= £13.99 * 12( whole year) + 20 ( compensation ) = £ 199
now if I'm paying 26.99 a month for 12 months = 324
takeaway the money they are going to transfer me in the next 3-4 days
so 323-199 = 124 / 12 = £10.3
so it works out for 10.3 per month for the first year , BTW the contract is only 12 months long .
and no I do not work for Carphone warehouse, I was just trying to help you

Its disappointing, considering the contract is clearly quoted as being 24 months @ 12.00 a month. After getting the bill through from EE @ £26.99 for one month, Car Phone Warehouse offered me compensation for 12 months only. I asked to terminate the contract at no cost to me on the basis that it had been misrepresented. They initially declined but later agreed after I pressed them on my second call. then offered me £20 compensation. EE were no help at all (quoting blacklisting and debt recovery), refusing to get involved, very disappointing given that's who was going to bill me! I'm cancelling my Direct Debit just in case.

Some success for me. The deal with EE is for 7Gb data unlimited mins & texts on a 12mth contract for £26.99 pm.
CPW state the deal they were selling was for £12.99 a month (I fully appreciate the CPW paperwork I have 'in hand' states £12pm - but anyway). They have refunded to my card £188. This is based on them refunding the difference between £26.99 and £12.99 over the life of the 12m contract + £20 goodwill.
Math:
12*£26.99=£323.88 is what EE will take by DD
£323.99-£188 CPW rfd = £135.88 is the actual cost to me
£135.88/12 = £11.32pm effective monthly cost.
I am waiting to see the refund appear in my bank account and setting myself a reminder to start searching for another 'sim only' deal as soon as I am out of contract. If the refund does not arrive then I will cancel the contract under 14 day cooling off.

I had no call back after they said they would!!
So I called them again - after speaking to 3 people last one hung up!

Drove to local CPW - assistant didn't have a clue - i told him to call the number and sort it out - he dialed his super fast number and handed me the phone - automated voice survey - lol - i said don't worry mate I'll go back home and call them again myself.
So I did - guess what - 45 mins later the last chap said I have to take the sim to the local store to cancel it.
So - off I trot to the local store - a different chap this time - he took sim and cancelled - no one offered me anything and if they had I would have told them to stick it up their Ar*e

Told them to shove it , went home and phoned CPW only to be offered what everybody else was offered.Told them to shove it too.
Cancelled DD with EE and took out a sim only deal with BT for £10 pm - 4 gb, 500mins,unlimited text, should be £15 but if with BT Broadband there's a £5 discount, job done !

just a note for people who are cancelling this because they have changed the prices. Separately from this just wanted to confirm I receive £188 refund back from
Carphone warehouse now so I'm happy for now.

I pay £16pm for the same except with only 4Gb EE data for the past 2years.
As I now mostly only use data at home whilst connected to wifi and occasionally on my work breaks I only need 2Gb min data for out and about so this will save me a few quid :sunglasses:
Incidentally, look out for Virgin Media sim only contracts over the next few weeks. They're going to release one with 5GB of data and 2500 minutes for £10/month I think.
He rang them and they literally told him where to stick it..
I've just recently taken one contract and then switched to a better tariff a few days later.
Both contracts could go up in price. Being locked in for 24 months is not a bonus, especially if a better deal with another provider comes up in the meantime.
Regards 4G, it should, bar yet another delay, be available on Virgin soon. I'm not a fan of Virgin though mind.
what is great today, won't be after a year anyway, as atleast your data use will anyway increase.
op heat added. great deal anyway
What gives?
I'm now on 6GB of data for £10 a month because they messaged me one day 6 months ago and said hey, have some more data for free on loyalty, just ring us up. I did and said what was the catch? They said none, nothing changes, no contract extension, 6GB of data, done.
Shame it's not 12 months no one likes commitment, but steaming hot esp. if available for business users (cant see why it wouldn't be)
do you think
a) if I call EE, would they match this?
b) If they can't match it, will they be able to still keep my current number or is that not possible? would I have to port number to another network then port it back to EE...
What's the crack? Why can't some of us see this deal?
Also, if you place the £12 EE deal in your Carphone Warehouse basket, then close the tab, go to TCB/Quidco and then go to Carphone Warehouse, the SIM deal will still be in your basket so you can then buy with £10 cashback.
then click on EE in the Find your perfect sim only deal box to see just EE deals then click 'Load More' to umm see more and bingo, you're good to go.

your amazing, thanks dude!

Point is you can get better deals with any network provider that you are attached to if you kick up enough fuss through retentions.
Would understand it if this was a handset+sim deal, but as sim only..doesn't make sense.
have some heat OP.
contract.
Still, the £5 a month is decent with 500mb unlimited texts and mins.
I suppose if you cant wait for some reason you might have to bite. But so many better deals can come out in the next few months.
For me personally a good deal is getting more then what you currently have and paying less, thats why i didnt bother when they had that £20 for 20GB and unlimited texts/mins. 20GB would be great but not if i have to pay an additional £6 per month.
I would jump on this deal but 24 months is overkill for a sim only.
I got 8GB with unlimited minutes for 8.50 from EE early this year. It's a 12 months contract which is much better than this deal. Cold!
Turns out you can't see it on a tablet but desktop is fine.
Think I'll wait for now, am sure there will be better offers later this month. EE already have their Black Friday & Flash Sale links in place so I'll see what comes in the next weeks.
24 months is still a big catch and with EE they have extras and EExtras (NOT GOOD and COSTLY). In all likelihood there are likely to be better 12 month contracts with more data, looking at trends.
12gb data, 5000 mins 5000 text on talk mobile £12pm? 12 month contract - with £30 amazon evoucher - through uswitch only
USwitch is fine for comparisons but you're usually better going to Quidco/TCB for a better deal.
I reckon if you're paying less than a tenner SIMO with plenty of data / minutes you're doing OK!
Heat added.
The advertising page says it's a 12 month contract as well as it's a Data Sim. The order page says it's a 24 month contract which EE have said they don't offer on Sim Only plans.
Be good to hear from anyone who bit the bullet that can confirm which bits are fact.
In 24 months I fully expect UNLIMITED data at which point I will terminate my home broadband. This EE SIM is COLD: IMO it's already out of date especially as 24 month contracts should include a decent handset. Sorry!
Always buy my phones out right anyway so phone deals don't appeal to me, this basically means I have double the data I had on PAYG plus the benefits of being on contract such as wifi calling, eu roaming etc.
Got my despatch email too, so see what arrives tomorrow.
£12 4Gb (Unlim Mins/Txt)
From what I see in this thread EE is giving out better deals, but some people are also hinting that more appealing offers might be coming along soonish...
Can anyone advise me on whether I should wait for a bit longer, or get in touch with them looking for a better deal now, and if unsuccessful try to go down the PAC code / retention route?
This also includes 6 month BT Sport and 6 month Apple Music.
its like fixing a mortgage but instead of morgage you are buying yourself a cheap way of using mobile for 24 motnths!
Can you share a screenshot?
Received pac codes for 2 of my mobile numbers but never had a call yet from EE offering a deal
Hot
Sounds like it might have been a mistake after all. Good luck for those that went for it in time:p
If you have the confirmations I'd wait for them to contact you and try explain they're not letting you have it rather than getting in touch yourslef.

"Hi Nigel, you recently ordered a SIM Only offer from Carphone Warehouse. We're sorry to let you know that a system error caused a pricing issue on our website at the time of your order, showing an incorrect price. It's important that we speak to you to discuss the issue and what happens next. We'll contact you in the next 72 hours, or alternatively, please call our customer service team on 08000496250."
All set up and ready to go - I even spoke to cfwh and they stated all was good yesterday!!
Basically this is the maths24 month contract
(YES 24 month Contract, dont be fooled!)
what the deal was: £12 x 24 months = £288
What they are offering NOW
24 months at £26.99 = £647.76 - £188 = £459.76
£459.76 - £288 = £171.76 extra
or instead of charging us £12/month it will be £19.16/month
The upshot of it is when we called back again they've changed their stance and said that the £188 would have been given if the SIM was activated. My wife's wasn't...
We've took the £20 compensation and let the SIM be cancelled.
EE Currently have UL Mins + UL Txts + 16GB of 4G data for £19.99 so why would pay £27pm for just 7GB i said.
Ive already canceled by existing deal so have prob lost the number or have to faff to get it back, Simply don't have the time so told them to suck my chocolate star fish and come back with a better offer or i will be speaking with trading standards and the advertising agency.
They said the same spiel around it being an error and that they were willing to offer the following:
I pay £26.99 for 12 months
They pay me [(26.99-12)*12] = £179.88 + £20 (compensation) = £199.88 today
I clarified the entire situation and specifically confirmed that this would be a 12 month contract and I could cancel after 12 months.
Was I being lied to? What have others been told as it seems some have been told it's still a 24 month contract :S
My question now is
1) Where do I stand if I dig my heels in and say we have a contract for 24 months at £12 a month?
I believe from research on the internet this would hold up in court
Any ideas??
Under the distance selling regulations, you were offered a price point and by them sending it through the post and you activating the sim they have entered into a contract with you. However I'm sure buried in the terms and conditions there is something about changing price points at any given moment.
With regards to naseemmuglihi I personally think your an employee with that nonsense. Better deal 12 months? Accept what they have offered? It seems tonne quite easy these days to go to small claims court. I have also reported it to BBC Watchdog!!
I think this speaks for itself!!
Wednesday 9th I call CPW and guess what I get the dreaded "don't know what you are talking about"
If nothing else the whole experience has been entertaining talking to someone in an obscure country called Shannon or Danny...you honestly could not make it up and if you are reading this CPW then please feel free to contact me, if nothing else I am sure it will be quite funny...my transaction id was 367195381
now if I'm paying 26.99 a month for 12 months = 324
takeaway the money they are going to transfer me in the next 3-4 days
so 323-199 = 124 / 12 = £10.3
so it works out for 10.3 per month for the first year , BTW the contract is only 12 months long .
and no I do not work for Carphone warehouse, I was just trying to help you
CPW state the deal they were selling was for £12.99 a month (I fully appreciate the CPW paperwork I have 'in hand' states £12pm - but anyway). They have refunded to my card £188. This is based on them refunding the difference between £26.99 and £12.99 over the life of the 12m contract + £20 goodwill.
Math:
£26.99pm-12.99pm=£14
£14pm * 12m = £168
£168 + £20 goodwill = £188 refund.
This is a real cost of £11.32 a month.
Called again - 3rd person told me to go to the local store to cancel -
Drove to local CPW - assistant didn't have a clue - i told him to call the number and sort it out - he dialed his super fast number and handed me the phone - automated voice survey - lol - i said don't worry mate I'll go back home and call them again myself.
So I did - guess what - 45 mins later the last chap said I have to take the sim to the local store to cancel it.
So - off I trot to the local store - a different chap this time - he took sim and cancelled - no one offered me anything and if they had I would have told them to stick it up their Ar*e
Won't be dealing with those jokers again! - LMFAO!
I called and they had no idea. told me to call EE to cancel it, so I called EE and they told me to call CPW. But then they did cancel for me but I PORTED my number instantly and they go if I cancel then my number is gone!! so to get a pac code.. I'll have to pay my first bill! and no refund.. so £26.99!
complained to cpw and they offering me £20 cash refund and £20 voucher..
grrr
Told them to shove it , went home and phoned CPW only to be offered what everybody else was offered.Told them to shove it too.
Cancelled DD with EE and took out a sim only deal with BT for £10 pm - 4 gb, 500mins,unlimited text, should be £15 but if with BT Broadband there's a £5 discount, job done !
My last dealing with CPW was 5 years ago when we were mis-sold a Talk Talk contract which we were stuck with on dial up speed for 18 months ! This time we have given ourselves a LIFE TIME BAN from CPW !!!
£26.99 x 24 months yes its 24 months
£188 rebate plus £20 voucher
do the maths and its still nearing £19/month
thats not including the hassle and agro!
there are many many other better deals to be had
wont bother with currys / pc world again.
better buying from john lewis, tesco direct or amazon over this festive period

The Carphone Warehouse Team
they weren't prepared to give us the deal at £12.99 and now all of a sudden they going to offer it to us sub £12.99?
stop being so stupid!
is it worth the gamble - NO!!!
Send it back, complain and dont buy anything from PC World, Currys and Carphone Warehouse ever again!
And ofcourse once my contract ends I will be leaving if I dont get offered a good deal.
6GB of 4g Data and you can cap the bill -so nasty bill shocks
Tesco allows tethering and piggybacks on O2 which means both coverage and speeds are excellent
Ee and vodaphone have the best speeds and coverage on the 4g network respectively.
Separately from this just wanted to confirm I receive £188 refund back from
Carphone warehouse now so I'm happy for now.
