Great deal & good quality book! When collecting in store I was charged 49p per book however after showing my confirmation & that it was still 9p online they honoured the price x

Just clicked and collected from Argos Blackpool town centre, be careful as they going thru till at 49p unless you querie it

​Theres some review on youtube. It is just plain text on recycled paper, standard book but there are a few pages with pictures in colour it seems. Not your typical colourful story book but still good for 9p!

Argos have a bizarre stock system. Ten stores near me (10ish mile radius) and 5 have it in stock for immediate collection. The other 5 it can be collected in 4 days. How do they work that out?!

Argos now operate a 'Hub and Spoke' distribution system. It's very clever. The bigger HUB stores that are usually located in industrial/retail parks, close to motorways etc, receive multiple big warehouse deliveries each day, and distribute it twice a day between the other, typically smaller, city centre type SPOKE shops via vans driven by employees of the HUB store. This is how they keep the smaller shops stocked with a less complicated warehouse to store distribution process, however, it also allows them the opportunity to show stock that is in store at a HUB as 'ready for collection after X o'clock' at a SPOKE store, because any such reservations that are made can be picked and transferred between the stores in either the morning or afternoon HUB-to-SPOKE van shuttle run :smiley:

Jeez, it must cost them the 9p to pay for the conveyor belt to bring each book down on, let alone the wages of the man/lady picking it up & putting it on the shelf (and keying code in so the voice says "number 176 to your collection point please") and the other man/lady picking it up from the shelf & stamping your receipt. They'd be better off fashioning a load bearing wall out of them.

Or in other words, that's a very hot deal you have there.

bought 10 in plymouth I reserved yesterday, no problems, they also knew about them and them being 9p, they said they were getting more coming in, I assume they mean other reservations (ones which stipulated collection in 3 days etc) as they admitted they were out of stock of that item.

If you're in or near Aberdeen then the Portlethen and Inverurie branches have stock. I've just had the last ones from the Trinity Centre branch which I'm giving to the charity shop my partner works in. They will probably sell them for £1 each so that's 91p profit for each book.

Checked earlier & there wasn`t any within 15 miles - Just had another look & found a few in stock, looks like people have reserved and not collected today?
Anyway the few I`v got are going to be donated to a charity that makes up childrens hampers for families that are struggling :smiley:

I'm able to reserve some in Northampton :smiley: Some of the other 9p stuff Argos had had recently I've put aside for charity shoeboxes going overseas for next year. I don't think these books would be suitable. Any suggestions on places to donate this? We have loads of charity shops in the town but they don't like taking book donations.

Here are some other 9p items to look out for whilst your in the shop. Stock will be low again as its clearance. There is stock though, I got all of the items below a few days ago and there was still stock left. You can't check online so will have to check on the machines/tills in store.

Charity shops which don't like taking books?!?!?! I've never heard of that anywhere. Surely a charity shouldn't be turning down donations.

Yea a few near me aren't too keen on them, some don't refuse offers - but you never see them in their store, but others have just blank refused. Pity! We used to have some stores that offered free books, up to 3 per person I think, used to take books to them and occasionally picked one up. Unfortunately those things have gone now.

I just find that attitude of a charity shop appalling and I would seriously consider making my voice heard to their higher management. Books always sell - even if it's for just 50p each then it's still 50p they didn't have before.

​i didn't have any issues with picking it up after work on the day this deal came out from Manchester store. ordered 3 paid by PayPal & used the fast track. I did go on the day not sure if that makes a difference. & my store I checked yesterday has it still in stock too
