I have read a number of reviews that make the following "complaints", i'll list them and give my view.
1. Its noisy - yes it does make a bit of noise, but its not that bad and takes all of like 30seconds to make a cup of coffee.
2. Water needs refilling often - the water container is quite decent size, but it does a cleaning cycle each time you turn on/off so uses some extra water, i think thats a good feature though myself, and the container is very easy to slide in and out.
3. Coffee grounds needs emptying often - again sort of true, and it has to be emptied before you can use it again, but like the water container this also slides in/out very easy and takes seconds to empty.
Build quality seems very good to me also

I've not tried Nescafe brand coffee as I only think of instant which I hate. Great thing about this machine is you can adjust the strength.
If you have a Costco near you I'd experiment with a few different Kirkland branded beans - I've never been disappointed and usually pay around £8-9 for a large bag.

I bought the 1st version of this machine 10+ years ago, use it everyday and it's still going strong. It had a leak about 5 years ago contacted Delonghi and got the machine repaired and no problem since. I purchase my coffee from Costco usually Espresso blend :smiley: very tasty and inexpensive. The machine can also take preground coffee which I often purchase when in Spain (vacuum packed brick blocks), I prefer a Spanish roast vs Italian, check out torrefacto bean, coffee roasted with a little bit of sugar amazing creme and flavour, cheap to buy while on hols. Also, throw your coffee grounds around your veg garden, snails hate it.

Looks like a good deal! Have a dual boiler and separate grinder machine myself, but for convenience, you can't go wrong with this at this price! Just make sure that you get some freshly roasted beans, not the cack from the supermarket shelves!!!

Aldi coffee beans aren't crap :smiley:. Best I've had. When it's dark roasted it's actually quite hard to tell on quality anyway. Which is why whichever costa/Starbucks etc you go to... it tastes the same. They do it that way, for that reason.
went for the 4000 from ao at £199 .... TCB pending at £4.37 which is approx 2.2%. Hopefully will be corrected to £32.83 (16.5%) when it changes to confirmed.....
It's a bit crazy why company hasn't bothered to inform the customers and seems like named it something they understand but not their customers.. Probably the differences are negligible

The 4000.B is the same machine as the 4200.S, literally the only difference is the colour and the name.
Just like the 2800.SB and the 2600.B are the same machine only in different colours.
It's a strange naming convention, but from everything I've read and all the pictures of machines I've seen back it up. Not to mention the manuals are identical.
Had this machine for quite a while (couple of years). The steamer is a bit weak, but other then that it's been used every day for at least two cups of coffee in the morning usually more.
No idea how they hold up against more expensive machines, but I would not hesitate to buy another of these if mine broke.
Cleaning it is very easy. The descale cycle takes a bit longer but is fairly infrequent do no big deal.

It's the alphabets at the end that denote colour so 4200.s be silver and 4200.b or 4200.sb be blackB.

Ordered the ECAM22.113.B with tcb from ao, mainly for it's better milk frothing capability which supposed to be better than 4200 which in turn is supposed to be better than 4000. Over on the Amazon reviews people have mentioned the milk frother of 4000 to be useless. In mainly a drinker of milky coffees hence value the milk frothing capability... For espresso/americano 4000 or 4200 shouldn't make any difference to ecam22xxxxxx

If you plan to use the milk frother, then dual boiler is a big plus. This should (not tried this specific machine) allow you to froth milk while the coffee is making itself. In a single boiler machine the temperature is different between having it in coffee mode and frothing mode, so there is a delay in between the two modes while it heats up and the possibility of burning your coffee if you do the milk first then the coffee straight after.

With 16.5% cashback at AO it's £27.36 cashback making the 4000 £171.63
From all the reviews I've seen the 4000 (the 4200 is the same model only silver) comes out on top, but no direct comparison reviews that I can see.
Only real difference I can see from the specs is the 4000/4200 has dual boiler which from what I can tell gives it the edge.

can anyone advise on the difference between the 2800 and the 4000?
Don't have a TCB but see Quidco offer a double the difference and their rate is currently 1.65 %, I make that 14.85% difference, doubled to 29.7% so just over £73 cashback ... IF Quidco honour their double cash back claim, so tempted ... but I know that Quidco will try and find a way of denying the claim!

The ESAM4200.S is listed so you should be alright for some of it. Not sure if service is included with that model. Read small print at bottom of offer. To the registration it's simply like it's a new machine.

Thanks for the reply, but it either means grinding some beans at home (I use beans) and taking them to work and use my Bodum coffee press/mug for a good cup of coffee - I don't drink instant - or taking the machine to work which I will not, obviously, do. So having a grinder would be more than useful for me. I, too, would not recommend buying a £250 coffee machine just for the grinder.

I bought one of these last year for the missus when Amazon where selling them briefly for the same price.
Great machine, makes a good coffee. Previous poster is correct does make a fair bit of noise but its not objectionable, water container is probably enough for 3 or so cups including the start up / power off routine but that's fine - better to have fresh water than stuff that's been hanging around.
I live in a hard water area and I have to descale the machine regularly, using a brita water filter has helped loads though (and improved the taste).
