Purchased- sickening though to get right through the process of ordering to then be charged £15 at the end to deliver to Northern Ireland. There goes any savings

Found this explanation of the difference between LED and Laser printers
The summary point is they are fairly similar in a practical sense - both use toner and a statically charged drum for printing, and achieve similar print quality and speed. LED ones have fewer moving parts, so should be more durable. Basically an LED printer is just as good as a Laser.

Bought this printer the last time it was discounted, and has been great!
The main attraction for me was the low running costs - as 3rd party toners are available very cheap on ebay/amazon and the drum is supposed to last the lifetime of the printer. As a laser (LED) printer you can say goodbye to dried up ink destroying your inkjet printhead too! (I'm never buying another inkjet)
Other big plus is that its nice and compact, which for my intended use case was bang on.
No autoduplex, but you can do manual duplex (where it prints the stack of paper and you manually put the stack back in, press a button and it will print the other sides)
If you intend on printing lots of duplex, and space isn't an issue might not be the printer for you.
In retrospect I wish I'd bought the 1765 model with the built in scanner for copies, but as a pure (network connected) printer for home use this has been great for me.

Thanks, Dell 1765 is not cheap. Given we have plethora of applications to scan on mobile (I rarely use scanner at home). So personally paying high premium for flexibility of scanning documents was not economical.

I keep seeing comments online about this printer being a LED, what does that mean? I thought this was a laser printer and I was all set to buy it and now I'm questioning it :disappointed:

eBuyer slapped a Black Friday label on this deal - but kept the price at £89.99. Come on eBuyer you can do better than that!
Yes, a pretty good reason to get one quick! (The 1765 version with the scanner seems to be effectively all gone now.)
Still pleased with my 1760.
Latest set of eBay toners has cost me £12.99 delivered for the set of 4. Availability of cheap and viable 'compatible' consumables is just one of the positive features of this printer. (Tip: check also for C1250 toners - they are the exact same thing.)
One small downside for those new to the machine is that with A4 paper loaded, it sticks out and the front panel can't be closed, Not really a problem unless you weren't expecting it.

Yep - but the cartridges will still be available in the after-market, and for £90 notes you can't go wrong with this printer.

If there is still toner left in your old carts (shake them - can you still hear or feel toner in them?) then you can use them even after the printer says they empty. Just need to disable toner level sensing: on printer press the Menu button (bottom left) > Admin Menu > Maintenance > Non-Dell Toner > ON. Then turn printer off for few seconds and on again.
Printer will use up all the toner left. When you start seeing white streaks for any colour then you need to replace that cart.

Thanks, that makes simple sense. My old cartridges aren't being recognised as "end of life" so will try with a new pack.
Thank you.

I have just installed a set of ebay cartridges and it now makes a weird grinding/belching noise every time I print? Prints out fine Any ideas anyone?

Put your old carts back in and see if they make a noise. Is yes then your printer may need maintenance - maybe paper or debris jam.
If no noise then one of your new carts are faulty. Change one colour at a time to find out which new cart is faulty.

The current Android app is also rubbish. Its called Dell Document Hub and is cloud service based. Why would I want my printing to be routed to the Internet. Complete nonsense.
Download the old app called Dell Mobile Print for Android 1.2.0.79. It's no longer available on Google Play Store but can be downloaded from other APK sites (eg here). Make sure the .apk file has SHA1 458706102049b0fc1e0246db087feb5a648b9df7 or MD5 dd885f204fd1aca90145bd3bab30b676 otherwise it's not genuine and could contain malware.

We have one and it's been brilliant for family and school printing. Just got another to put away as a replacement when current one dies. Full set of refill non-oem toners cost around £15-18 on ebay or Amazon so this is a no-brainer.
The only negative for me is that the paper tray is exposed when filled (info here) but we just cover with a cloth when not in use. Also only has manual duplexing, but for occasional duplexing it's no hassle moving the paper into the feeder again (info here).

Do yo have to connect the RJ45 directly to the router?
My router is not "local" to my PC or where the printer would sit.
What standard is the WiFi connection, hopefully 802.11n?
Is that the paper tray stuck out at the front, (My old machine has it at the back)?
Great printer at great price. very reliable with cheap cartridges.

I have this printer. It's actually an LED not a laser, but it's excellent. The only bad sides are that it doesn't do auto duplexing (you have to manually take the page out and flip it) and it won't do borderless prints. But it's a brilliant little printer and you can buy cheap compatible toners.

oh and it's wireless but you have to use specific app to print from mobile devices rather than airprint or cloud print or the like

It's made by Xerox anyway. I have one, has been faultless unlike many inkjets I have owned over the years. Best bit is very cheap toner available. Downside is duplex is manual and I don't use that function enough to remember which way to put the paper back in.

Bought this one over the summer and have got through a ream of paper with cartridges still going strong.
Quality is pretty good - some solid areas of colour don't quite look solid, and generally not quite as good as a laser but you'd be hard pressed to tell much difference.
There seem to be lots of cheap cartridges available on eBay etc. but not sure how good they are compared to the original Dell ones - a bit frightened of having one leak toner all over the insides!

Good price and cheap to run, just worth noting that Dell no longer sell printers outside the US so these won't be around for much longer.
