Currently you get a free £10 or £5 gift card depending on your purchase at Argos. Problem is this expires on December 15th so you could forget about it and miss out altogether or you may want to wait to spend it in the sales.
There is a way to get the card to be valid for 3 years all for the cost of a carrier bag.
You need to purchase your goods at the checkout and collect your gift card. When your item is ready for collection ask for a carrier bag from the member of staff but explain you have no cash and ask them to take the 5p from your gift card. When they do this the gift card is debited 5p but importantly revalidated and the expiry date changes to 2019.
Really not sure if this is helpful to anyone but I know I will forget about my £10 and it will probably expire at least this buys me a little more time.

Bit of a two faced comment to make considering you posted a deal 3 weeks ago about how you can go into Mercedes and Land Rover showrooms, have a walk around, then stock up on free drinks and snacks and watch sky tv on their comfy sofas.

Says it all about what? I dont hang around here like some do all day. I pop in very occasionally to see if theres any good offers about. You got a problem with that? How does that negate me having an OPINION? People can use this site however and whenever they like. We all bring traffic to the site. We all click on offers and buy stuff occasionally. Thats contributing plenty. Posting deals is not a pre-requisite to having an opinion. People like you really need to learn that. Do you know what I also dont post here? Scams & tricks. My point.

Ok bought something today, didn't want anything else at the moment, paid for a carrier bag using my voucher (it was 15p but it was big !) Now my voucher for £9.85 doesn't expire for 3 yrs giving me plenty of time to choose something I actually want. So as far as I'm concerned this 'deal' was of use, voted hot by me.

i have a couple of hundred pounds of gift vouchers that i was given at work as rewards for going over and above, i was saving them for later then forgot where i put them and eventually found them again by chance, unfortunately they have expired, i rang them up but there is nothing they can do expired vouchers are only good for giving the kids as play money

You obviously don't have a clear understanding of the English language, I said it was only Fair which you seem to interpret as CARE, and just because I think a business should be allowed to trade in a fair manor does not make me a Maggie Thatcher or a Tory lover. Plenty of business people are members of other political parties. What about that nice Mister Blair making a packet with his wife out of being a LABOUR prime minister.
OH I almost forgot about the Kinnock's, whole family of them.

You do care. They were your exact words... And you are quite emotional over them,., Don't fume over Argos they have billions they will be fine. My local store was extremely busy today, they seem to be totally understaffed, and compounded by everyone wanting to spend their £5/£10 GC's before expiry at the end of the month. Took 40 minutes to buy & collect 1 item -- try to go at a less busy time if possible i.e. not midday/weekend.

not all vouchers are free and they put a use by date on so people lose the money.
soldierboy001
13 Nov 16#213

It's perfectly fair for a company to put conditions on their vouchers that are given as an incentive for free in my opinion.
jonnithomas
13 Nov 16#212
so why is a parliamentary committee looking at removing use by dates on vouchers as they are unfair to consumers then ?
firstofficer
13 Nov 16#211
Yes. I know what you're saying by questioning me and maybe it's a strong word in this case. Call it a loophole then if you may. At the end of the day it's the company that potentially loses out, by an intentional act of the consumer so I feel it's unfair..

This is not a deal, this is rubbish, please stop adding heat.
Why are people on this site always obsessing over gift cards? What is the point? Just give a £10 note if you want someone to have £10 worth of stuff from Argos. It will never go out of date (until the paper ones are replaced with polymer) and if Argos should happen, per chance, to be out of stock, they can spend it elsewhere.

In the past if there's nothing I want I have bought one of the vouchers Argos sell for another store.
You can't buy an Argos gift voucher with an Argos gift voucher but you can use it to by another retailers voucher.
Also if you buy something for less than £5/£10 it will automatically issue a new gift card with the balance on. I would question it with the cashier if they don't give you the change.

Just spend the gift voucher on something. If you forget about it then you obviously dont care much anyways. All these shifty shenanigans. Do you really want that "oh I see what game youre up to" look from the 19 yo cashier?

So if your honest with them they just took it off my order
Saved a tenner there and then on the day.
I know this is about extending your voucher from 15th December for 3 years, but no need for a carrier bag or messing about, just save it on the day?, argos said no problem yesterday

Similar thing with me earlier this year, bought an item for just over £50, given a £5 card (which incidentally wasn't a proper gift card just a paper card with the expiry date on), decided to use the card to buy the batteries for the item I purchased, which was £3.99 I think, Was told they would not give any change or credit on the promotional gift cards, so I picked up a bag of sweets as well for 99p. 2p lost but at least the assistant told me upfront .

How is this 2828°C and the hottest deal of the entire month!???
HUKD is rapidly becoming a social forum rather than a place to find genuine deals. Don't get me wrong I did snigger at a few of the comments but when I do my daily 5 minute scroll through the top deals these days, only half of them are actually decent deals with the rest being comedy gifts or something everyone found funny. Re 'Vouchers have expiry dates for a reason' in a very marginal way. Think about the act of buying a voucher you give the money in return for no outlay from the retailer. So they bank the money and can earn interest on it straightaway.
- Shops are very wise to the fact that only a certain percentage of vouchers ever get used. Again another money spinner.
- A voucher holder has next to no rights in a bankrupcy situation.
- The only real issue for longer dated vouchers would be if a large percentage of holders decided to cash them in at once or over a relatively short period of time.

Thanks OP. Voted HOT, HOT,HOT!
I used this this idea this morning where I earned myself a £5 voucher for a £60+ spend.
I asked for a carrier and was told it would cost 5p extra
I said I had no money on me despite having paid over £60 instore for the item I intended to purchase, and obviously received the appropriate change.
I asked nicely if I could use the £5 voucher as suggested here by the OP, and was asked "Are you quite sure? Is that all you want extra?"
I said, "Yes, Yes. I'm sure"
So she took my £5 voucher and provided me with the 5p carrier bag as I requested.
I asked for the voucher back, and she said I can't have it back as I had used it to purchase the carrier bag. I asked about the £4.95 balance where I was politely pointed to term 32 of the terms and conditions of the free gift card promotion
Fantastic deal, OP. Well deserves all the heat. This is what we come to HUKD for.

Given that argos could have quite easily stupulated terms for the free £5/£10 gift card which meant that if the full balance of the gift card is not used then no change is given either in cash or as a voucher I would say this is perfectly legitimate . Either
1)Argos dont want you to do this but have been too lazy or inprudent to properly consider how this could occur
2)Argos dont really care because the evidence year on year suggests that the vast majority of consumers either use the £10 within its validity or allow the voucher to expire .

Vouchers have expiry dates for a reason? Theft, that's the reason (and no, I'm not talking about the free ones on this thread) Money is handed over in good faith to buy a voucher, the shop has that money upfront, to put an expiry date on it is dishonest. There is no expiry date on bank notes so why should there be on vouchers?

If Argos didn't give you a free voucher then would you spend 5p on a carrier bag and why waste this thread there is no deal here move on.

Have you ever had your own business ?
Nothing in life is free, even a 'free' giftcard - it's all factored in to the initial price and allowed for when thinking about profits at the end of the year.
In other words, customers are paying for this gift card over a period of time which only Argos know exactly, and it isn't really free.
They could give a small percentage discount on every item they sold, but by giving you a gift card they will eventually get another sale if you use it - rather like buy one get one free instead of making something half price.

Opening post

You're a fool, this isn't fraud at all.
secondly, as I didn't specify which vouchers I was referring to how do you know ? it may well not be argos as they are gift cards and not vouchers.
OH I almost forgot about the Kinnock's, whole family of them.
It's perfectly fair for a company to put conditions on their vouchers that are given as an incentive for free in my opinion.
Im afraid i'll have to check the contents of your coat pockets before you leave sir :smirk:
Why are people on this site always obsessing over gift cards? What is the point? Just give a £10 note if you want someone to have £10 worth of stuff from Argos. It will never go out of date (until the paper ones are replaced with polymer) and if Argos should happen, per chance, to be out of stock, they can spend it elsewhere.
"No, just charge me for it please" said nobody ever!
I actually returned a fee £5 gift voucher bought product recently and the refunded voucher is 2019 expiry. So thats another LEGIT option.
(I'm fun at parties too)
Heh...this place sometimes.
So if your honest with them they just took it off my order
Saved a tenner there and then on the day.
I know this is about extending your voucher from 15th December for 3 years, but no need for a carrier bag or messing about, just save it on the day?, argos said no problem yesterday
Maybe different now this was back earlier in the year.
:stuck_out_tongue:
You are paying 5p for a 5p bag.
No offence op, its a good find but the best deal in the UK for the entire month..? I'm not so sure...
I know they did not mind you taking the pencil and paper slip out if the store, so it is probably okay to take one of the iPads home as it's the same principle.
I asked about the £4.95 balance where I was politely pointed to term 32 of the terms and conditions of the free gift card promotion
http://www.argos.co.uk/events/giftvoucher.html
Fantastic deal, OP. Well deserves all the heat. This is what we come to HUKD for.
How to buy a 5p bag for £5. That really is a HOT UK DEAL
No pun intended.
I'll get my coat..
WOW
1)Argos dont want you to do this but have been too lazy or inprudent to properly consider how this could occur
2)Argos dont really care because the evidence year on year suggests that the vast majority of consumers either use the £10 within its validity or allow the voucher to expire .
HAHAHAHAHA
