I got one for £95 from Amazon this week which was a good price so this is even better. Liking it so far especially the way I can scare the crap out of my wife by remotely setting off the siren lol worth the money just for that alone!

How do you get an alert of motion detected is it just an email or will it come up on ypur phone screen like a text message alert?

I have one of these and find it useful to know what the dog is doing when left. You can 'invite' multiple phones to download the app and view - using it much like Skype or FaceTime. There is no monthly fee although you can pay a monthly fee but the advantages aren't that useful to me. With the free plan you can download any video you want to keep within 24hrs so if it detected movement it starts recording to a cloud and informs you of the movement by text allowing you to save that recording, sound a siren or alert the police etc. The customer service is excellent too.
Hope that answers some questions.

Love my Canary. Use the app and get all members of the household to download it and it fires an alert when it detects movement or sound and records the footage. Stored in the cloud for free for 24hrs but you can pay extra for a premium service for a weeks worth. I've had mine since April and its worked perfectly since then. Catches the cleaners, window cleaner and dog when she is left for a few hours. Luckily nothing else. 10/10.

If you want to view footage whilst on holiday you may struggle. The tech people told us the further away you are the less likely you are to be able to see anything. We could see footage sometimes in Hong Kong but hardly ever in Australia, and that was the main reason we bought them.

I think you have either misunderstood or they were being very rude and having a joke with you.
What matters is the connectivity between your phone (via WiFi, broadband, 3G etc) and the server that canary have stored your videos on. There is no technical reason why connectivity to a cloud service needs to be slow from anywhere is the world. If it is (and it's not your device's connection to the internet that's poor) it's just bad architecture.
I would make a formal complaint - they should be able to fix this.

I'm constantly tempted by one of these..but they are just so expensive for what they are. It's basically just an IP camera that happens to also have a built in speaker + Temp/Humid sensor.
At £50, that would be a good deal - as a typical HD indoor IP Camera with night vision and mobile/cloud access & alerting is £30ish from D-Link (and they are much smaller than the canary too) so paying another £20 for the extra features is OK..but at £90 (or the normal £100+) It's just too much.
Their marketing is very good though and I do kind of want one, even though my brain knows it's exceptionally overpriced for what it is. Still, have some heat for the deal as it's the cheapest I have seen one of these.

By way of alternative, you may wish to consider a y-cam instead. Seems like the same functionality as Canary (including smart phone access and notifications) except it offers free 7-day cloud access rather than 24-hrs Canary provides. Have been using this for the last year and pretty happy with it so far. £79.95 over Black Friday.
Yes, I have a Y-cam, just one external type. The free 7 day cloud recording is great.

Yes, that's a good camera, although one important feature you may prefer the Canary for is the siren. Should someone break into your home they would trigger the alarm which would hopefully ensure they make a quick get away. Also peace of mind for occupants while they sleep.
Don't think just a camera would give you that reassurance.

Thanks, ordered one with discount code.
Got a y-cam already and its poor.
No 2 way talking or alarm.
The app just doesnt work properly. The location tracking works a few days then will turn on and off while in the house. Also if this mode did work, there is no night mode so it wont record while in the house. So i have just been using it with a fixed schedule. Will be relegated to watching over the garden.
Also quite slow using the live stream, can wait about 10-15 seconds to start whereas an older camera ive had loaded instantly.

This is a great price for Canary! I have a Welcome camera from Netatmo which is currently on Amazon UK at £119 Inc. Vat, bought it for face recognition feature so the only time my phone alerts me is when a unknown face walks into my house. Because I've names all my friends and family members I have dumbed down all actions for these people, also no charge for storage as it comes built in with 8GB SD card (If I want to store more footage I can use my Drop Box account that Netatmo have in their settings)... Reading some earlier comments you shouls be able to see live view of any stored video's anywhere in the world you have access to wifi or 3g/4g phone signal.

This is the newer canary flex can be used outdoors and can go wirefree with a rechargeable battery that lasts a few months
If they broke into your home while u slept no alarm would be triggered as the canary sends u a text asking do u want to trigger the alarm? If your asleep no alarm would be triggered
