I've been through the Amazon dash button page and made a note of how many items are available to order for each brand through the button and what is the cheapest item available.
There are 48 brands/buttons available, and the 99p offer ends at midnight tonight
If things go according to plan you should be getting £4.99 off your order (the button will cost you £0.99 outlay). There's 6 items at £4 or less (Gillette, Nerf, Air Wick, Dettol, Rimmel, Wilkinson Sword)
ps. I take no responsibility for inaccurate info here  prices subject to change and will probably go out of stock tomorrow when people receive their buttons. I think you might also have to buy via Amazon direct rather than a Marketplace seller to claim the bonus (?) so look out for that.
I figured I've got a lot of value out of HotUKDeals over the years so thought I'd contribute back
Nice find, I wonder if it works if we order more than one (for different products of course)

It says this in the instructions of how to set one up
"You can choose an option from the product line your Dash Button is associated with. For example if you have a Dash button for a brand of laundry detergent, you can select various scents and sizes of detergent. Tap the item to select it."
So I guess its selected items of the brand of button you buy :stuck_out_tongue:
Also on each button page there is a link to click to see what you can buy with that particular button

Hi
You need to have the dash button in your hand (and setup) to place 1st order (but I have a feeling you know that)
offer ends Tuesday
no wonder it hasnt tbh
to use 'properly' you need to check prices of the item when you place the order thus making the button irrelevant!
still... has its uses with deals like this (and potentially via the hacks after that first order)
deany76
22 Nov 16#69

just looking through a couple of the buttons and what you can buy...
kleenex cubes looks decent @12 for 12quid - thats supermarket offer price then get the discount
andrex puppies on roll 15quid for 45rolls? not sure i dont tend to do the buying there!
Right Guard Xtreme Heat Control Anti-Perspirant 150 ml - Pack of 6 <- 6.60 then discount etc etc
couple of cheap things such as the playdoh thing mentioned above and one of the nerf packs for 2quid total
did notice a few add on items though - how would that work? would it just queue it up until you made another order or what?

Ordered 12 buttons for products I either use or could use for pretty much free, got £6 in Amazon No rush credit also. Just be careful and check the "what can I order" link on each one. As an example you could have some Dettol stuff for free with the Dettol button, 18 packs of huggies wipes for a fiver. Great deals.
The Fairy one lets you order some pretty expensive dishwasher tablets, even with the fiver off it's going to cost you £25 quid for 180 tablets, more than I'd be willing to pay.
Prices do go up and down though
Can you order multiple ones of the same one? Can my wife order another set of 12?
mcek
22 Nov 16#72
you need to be a prime member anyway to order the button, so they assume you'll be a prime member when you use the button regularly afterwards, meaning free delivery for small orders, so add on items don't apply to your order.
i think.
anyway, nothing i would actually want to order, and the cost of what i would pay outweighs the discount, but for a pound IoT device, good price to muck around with.

I'm on prime trial so thought I'd give these a go, should be simple to hack, at the very least I can tell my router to block the internet from their mac addresses, then I can intercept the wifi and do something way more useful.
Incidentally even with Prime, the Nerf and PlayDoh buttons won't arrive in time to take advantage of this offer.

Hi
On paper these are great. You run out of an item you use a lot. The button is handily placed, press the button Voila! delivered the next day.
HOWEVER, us thrifty folks like a good deal and when you press the button you could be paying top dollar
For instance I rate the Fairy Platinum you mention. When I linked my Fairy Dash to the Fairy Platinum if I'd pressed the button to buy (which I did to test) the price was £50.00 for 149 tablets its now £28
Thats why the post #47 helps but really-
Dash button + us HOTUKD thrifty folk + after Tuesday when offer end = gimmicky and wont get used much if at all
brilly
22 Nov 161#75
add on items rules applies to everyone - i still need to wait for a £20 basket even on prime

I've got one and noticed that the prices you pay for items via the button are higher than via Amazon's website, so just beware of that!

Nice post. I've been wondering the same (add on etc..) and indeed pricing since some have said that they were charged a different price to the website..

No, when you set up a button, you do that via the Amazon app on your phone, and you have to select a specific product - you can see the price of it right there - it's higher than when you find the same one on the website.

After offering one the offer doesn't seem to show on any other dash. Does this mean you can only redeem the £5 off once.
I think you can use it once per "product series", but I am not sure. E.g. if you get the Gillette one, you can only redeem £5 off on first Gillette order, regardless of how many Gillette dash buttons you get. I could be wrong though...

Because the offer doesn't make it clear, the offer ends today, could be taken to mean the £4.99 offer or the offer, of the offer. It's especially unclear in the banner.
Or are you referring to the hacking? In which case, it's my wifi, I have total control and can do what I like, if I don't want the button to talk to the internet I don't have to let it :-)
But I ordered the Nerf button, because I might be able to use that.

mbuckhurst
22 Nov 16#97
You can certainly intercept the ARP message when it connects to the wifi for the first time, but you would need a computer running to intercept this. The biggest problem is the 10s or takes to actually power up and connect to the wifi network, so it's fine for none time critical events, but not so good if you want to turn lights on or similar.
I'll probably have a look to see if I can hack it further, but at the moment intercepting the signal is good enough for me.
mike
Lahn
22 Nov 161#98
I have one of these revision 2 buttons and use it exactly for that - detecting the ARP packet and in turn turning on a wifi plug - it does have some delay, between 2 - 7 (avg about 4) seconds from dash pressed to lamp on.

DO NOT BUY THESE!!!!! just finished a chat with amazon and you will not get the £4.99 promotion
chat below:
Me: i have bought a few amazon buttons. i would like to clarify offer details, this is the following offer: Buy Dash Button for £4.99 £0.99 and get a £4.99 discount after your first press.
Darren: Hello and welcome to Amazon chat.
Me: does the £4.99 discount for first press apply for each button for a different product or just one button per account
Me: i have ordered a few of the amazon buttons for different products so will i be given 4.99 credit for each button of only for the first button activated
Darren: You have order a Wilkinson Sword Dash Button, a Nerf Dash Button and a Play-Doh Dash Button for a total of £2.97
Me: yes thats correct
Darren: The offer ends today at 11:59 pm
To get a £4.99 discount after your first press.
Me: so the button has to be pressed today before 12 or the button has to be ordered before today at 12
Darren: The button has to be pressed before 11:59 pm today
Me: well that is bad advertising by amazon as the deal was only active yesturday and does not give anyone time to have the button arrive by the deadline
my buttons have not been dispatched yet so i will not qualify for the £4.99 credit by the time i get them?
Darren: I'm sorry about the confusion. I can leave feedback on this if you wish to make sure something like this doesn't happen again?
Unfortunately not. I'm sorry about this.
Me: yes leave feedback i will be cancelling my order
Darren: Ok. I will leave feedback for you anyway.
Me: why does terms and conditions not make clear that the buttom must be pushed before 12pm today and the terms are not clear as to wether the 4.99 credit is per different button or 1 4.99 credit per amazon account
is the 4.99 per different button product or just 1 4.99 credit per amazon account?
Darren: I'm unaware of why there isn't more detail given. There should be seen as it's only for a limited time but I will mention this in the feedback.
Me: so can you earn several 4.99 credits if different buttons are activated and pushed or just 1 4.99 per amazon account
Darren: When you buy Amazon Dash Button for £0.99 and you press it for the first time, we will deduct the same £4.99 amount from your first order on Amazon.co.uk as long as the order results in an actual purchase. The £4.99 amount will be allocated proportionally among all qualifying items in your orders. If your order amount is lower than £4.99, the difference will be deducted from the amount of the following order on Amazon.co.uk as long as this order results in an actual purchase.
This means that you will only receive £4.99 once no matter how many dash Buttons you have purchased.
Me: this should be made more clear also
Darren: I apologize again. It should have been made more clear. With the feedback I just left, hopefully this will stop similar situations like this for arising.
Me: i order a lot from amazon and i am quite disappointed in this. it seems this promotion was intentionally misleading to sell dash buttons and amazon customers would miss out on the deal since no-one would receive the dash button on time to order before 11.59 today

Amazon live chat staff never have a clue what theyre saying so I highly doubt thats true. I had an email from Amazon CS this morning saying you get a £4.99 discount for each dash button you purchase, and as far as I know there is no end date for when you can get this £4.99 discount (although the 99p deal ends tonight)

Pretty sure it's just incompetent customer support here.. Amazon has been running the £4.99 off per first order per each type of button since forever...... and all they did today is reducing the price of button..
Emmzrocks
22 Nov 162#104
Well lets hope they honour the £4.99 credit per first push of each dash button then. I just went on chat as I noticed the T&C's were not clear on how to qualify for the 4.99 credit and if only 1 £4.99 credit or several £4.99 credits could be earned. Amazon's promotions seem to be getting pretty vague in T&C's. If the representative has his info wrong they need to invest more in staff training.
i just didn't want people ordering these only to find out they had been duped by Amazon hence my do not buy post.

I'm not sure of the mechanics of how ordering through it works, but if you can add another item into the order then it should apply across all items.
Turn out the light when in bed.
What a great idea for something to 'hack' though. and at a £1 each....

My lighting is already voice, motion, timer, brightness and phone controlled via a combination of Siri, OpenHAB w/ ZWave and Hue.

You can not change a button to a different category - only change between the items in the category it belongs to - and it's first order of that category, so afraid not :disappointed:
do these batons order straight away or do they just add the item to your amazon order , so you could get other items with the dash button item and get free shipping?

I figured I've got a lot of value out of HotUKDeals over the years so thought I'd contribute back
It's a simple AAA battery that is slightly soldered into place.

The Andrex washlets look a good deal. Normally £1 in Tescos (when on offer), with this deal you will get a 12-pack for £9.99 (minus £4.99 + £0.99) = £5.99. So works out at 50p each.
One day there will be a place where we can go to get all of the things we're running low on in a single visit.
Until then this still ranks alongside the hands-free soap dispenser for the most stupid inventions of the 21st Century.

I'm guessing you've got every possible button control you could ever think of then? Otherwise, like me you must have uses for extra buttons, for me I've got HomeEasy, Z-Wave, AlertMe and X10 in use at home, but there's still the odd function I could use these buttons for, especially since I've got my own software linking all the devices together, the only downside is the slow response time, 4-7s (which seems to be the average user experience) is a very long time when waiting for a light to turn on, but for other things, it's probably perfectly acceptable.
Worse case scenario my boys get some Nerf bullets and I end up saving my total outlay.

Order and receive a (e.g. Vanish) dash for £0.99. Once you have set up your dash with the product of your choice and clicked the button, your order will be confirmed and £4.99 will be deducted from the purchase price, e.g. I ordered Vanish Oxi Action Fabric Stain Remover - 1 kg which costs £6 and ended up paying £1.01 + my original £0.99 for the dash, so £2 total.

So first use aside, I need a product so I press the button, but have no idea what the price is. So instead I got to my PC look up the item and see its a reasonable price then go back and press the button - or just order it when checking the price? Other than the initial discount I can't see why anyone would want one of these.

22 Nov 161#223
Clearly it's if you value convenience over price.
Just press the button not caring about the price.
You can always check later and cancel the order if you're not happy.
But clearly not for the price conscious.
It's the opposite of shopping around.
For me, the one time discount and opportunity to play with some new tech (that can be modified later) is the appeal, which will apply for plenty on here I think.

I ordered some earlier this morning for same day delivery (as for whatever reason it didn't allow me to use no rush on some of them.. no idea why not.. but hey at least got to order tonight already to test it out)..
Btw, there were some earlier questions regarding no rush delivery on the actual product purchase once you set up the dash button: for me it didn't allow it, only option was "standard delivery" which basically is the regular prime next day delivery.. so as I ordered late today, the orders are scheduled to arrive on Thursday..

I would never blindly click the button without checking the price online first. The idea behind this button is pretty stupid - the shrewd shoppers of this site are definitely not the target market.
The sad thing is Amazon UK will probably think they've got a hit on their hands after thousands of HotUKDealers bought them today (to use once, claim the £4.99 discount and then put back away into their drawer full of random gadgets they'll never use again)
ukaskew
23 Nov 162#233
That would be seriously underestimating how a company as large as Amazon with as much data they have operates. They know x % will use them once to get £4 off, but they will also know that they only need x % to use them occasionally to make it worth their while. This is on the back of the second biggest Prime spike they've had (The Grand Tour launch), they know exactly what they are doing, they put it front and centre on their homepage for a reason.

I bought ten of these when first released. Epic fail. They have been stuffed in a cupboard ever since. The sticky backs don't work and fall off in the night banging on floor. For those who are wondering what to do with the dash once you have used up your one time credit:
You can deactivate your Dash Button if you no longer want to use it, or if it is lost or broken.
1. Open the Amazon Shopping app on your compatible device (the same app you used to link them uo).
2. Tap the Menu icon and then tap Your Account. Under Dash Devices select Manage devices.
3. Select the button you want to deactivate (for me if was touching the product it was set to order.).
4. Select deactivate
Now my 3 year old is playing with multiple dash buttons which blink when pressed but does not order anything.

thefunkygibbon
23 Nov 16#248
why? if my kid was being entertained by pushing buttons which do absolutely nothing at all, i'd be a bit concerned
I had another item also in my basket on the phone app to test
All it did when I pressed the button was order the Dettol product (as a new separate order) and take off £3.75 (to make it £0)... but the other £1.24 (of the £4.99) discount just disappears I guess. I was hoping to use that additional discount off the rest of my basket
Still a great deal though. £0.99 for 3 Dettol sprays - 33p each. And a free wireless button I can re-deactivate and use as a switch to reboot/shutdown my Raspberry Pi

I quite shocked that someone in amazon thinks this is a good idea to be honest.
The cost must be high, and the usability/longevity for the customer will be very short.
I imaging returns of the products may be higher than normal as well.
I have 5 of them, I will use them once and get them off my WiFi as soon as possible.
They have microphones which is concerning although I am not one of them paranoid types.. lol
I'm not too bothered about Amazons spend on these (Look at the Grand Tour) but what concerns me is the environmental impact, batteries, electronics then landfill.
Had a lot of trouble installing scapy on El Capitan, but think I'm there now
Managed to get the button to send out signal once pressed and for the MAC address be displayed in Terminal

what i mean is you can buy the dash now for a fiver and you get a fiver off an item. whereas with this offer i paid a pound for the dash and then get a fiver off. so i paid an extra pound?
tiggerloveslife
24 Nov 161#264
Nope you'll end up with £4 extra...
If you buy the Dash for £4.99 then get £4.99 back you break even....
By buying the Dash button for 99p and still getting £4.99 back you are actually £4 in pocket (£4.99 discount on first item bought using it - £0.99 that you paid for the Dash = £4 balance) ...admittedly the £4.99 is taken off the item you order from your Dash but taking into account the 99p you paid for the Dash and still getting the £4.99 back then the item you're buying works out £4 cheaper....hope that makes sense :innocent:
Now I've read that I don't think it does make sense but basically you're paying less for the dash but still getting £4.99 back for your first purchase on each dash so you end up "in pocket" so to speak

Got my first one today (the two that had to come from Germany beat the UK ones!).
Trying to setup "Play-Doh" - Have to "choose a product" from a list of just one - 6 tubs of "sparkle" playdoh - my son will not be impressed with pink and purple glitter play-doh, can't choose the more popular - far cheaper 20 tubs of standard multi-coloured playdoh that is a far more popular line.
Regretting buying them now. Hate to think what my dog will think of it when I see what limited choice I have for that button. Strange how you can not review the buttons? Perhaps Amazon are ashamed of the product.

25 Nov 16#269
On the button's product page it shows you which products you can purchase with it
0dd8a11
25 Nov 16#270
Yes I've seen that today - and it's a choice of just one item from the 127 pages they sell.
bloooo
25 Nov 162#271
And you still chose to order the button?
0dd8a11
25 Nov 161#272
Yes, it's not clear on the a phone when a new user buys, unaware of the process. With the statement I presumed you could choose which branded product to assign to it not forced to choose the single option - that isn't a choice in my vocabulary!
bloooo
25 Nov 16#273
Thats fair, I don't understand why they don't expand the choices, I imagine that will happen in future
brilly
25 Nov 161#274
its only play doh that has a single item to 'choose' (well that i have seen)
as in #265 gillette button gives the choice of 36 products
the 4 buttons i got gave 5-10 items a piece i think but i made sure the prices were ok (hopefully) before ordering the button
have since pressed each and had the correct deductions made
wish had ordered a few more really!

25 Nov 161#275
wish id come back and red the thread before ordering
still - made some decent savings

Starting to feel a bit of a dumbass here... can't see anywhere in the app to add devices?
kowalski
25 Nov 16#277
click on hamburger 3 stripe menu on top-left
select "Your Account"
scroll quite far down and you will see
Dash Devices
- Manage Devices
- Set Up A New Device
Flodd
25 Nov 16#278
I don't have "your account" I have "account"
When I click on it I get 8 boxes, the most obvious one is "manage your content & devices" but there ain't anything for dash... it just lets me delete old kindles.

25 Nov 16#279

Not sure if people know this or if it has been posted, but if you buy something for LESS than a fiver, then the remaining credit comes off your next order of anything.
So get something as cheap as you can, and get the credit to use on soemthing you really want.
Flodd
25 Nov 163#282
Yeah - turns out there are two apps in the market place, version 4.0 isnt compatible with dash, 4.3 will work. Amazingly the HD6 I bought earlier in the week comes hardwired with version 4.0 - sorted now, just downloaded the app on my phone.

26 Nov 161#283
To confirm - if I buy something less than a fiver then the rest of my discount gets added as universal amazon credit?

26 Nov 161#284
Gutted not to have bought more than two when they were this price - having played with using them today for non-Amazon purposes, and got one controlling my WeMo lightbulbs and one acting as a locator for my phone!

27 Nov 16#286
Hi Kowalski,
Did you succeed in using the button, deactivating it and then hacking it? Thanks in advance!
BungalowBill
27 Nov 162#287
I tried a range of different activities, but settled on two -
Amazon Dash Button Hack is a Windows application that identifies a button push and opens an executable. I've got it sending a Curl HTTP request to the application Autoremote running on my phone, which in turns calls a Tasker script to toggle my WeMo lightbulbs.
Dasher runs on a Raspberry Pi and can call IFTTT recipes.
Remember to follow the instructions to set up the Dash Button on your LAN but DON'T select a product to buy. With the first of the tools above, you also need to fix the IP of your button (I did this in my router settings). The latter only sees the ARP request, so the IP is not important.

Can I use the dash to send an ifttt to my kindle.
BungalowBill
27 Nov 162#290
Just realised - I ordered three Dash Buttons, have registered them all to make them active but not selected a product or bought anything, but I now have 3x £4.99 available as discounts on other purchases. Have Amazon made a big mistake here? I have *definitely* not ordered anything with the buttons but have been given the credits against other purchases, as if I have!? Anyone else?

27 Nov 162#291
I have used one of my buttons to restart my Pi, which works a treat. There are times when I will push my RPi3 more than usual which makes it crash. I could SSH and reboot it gracefully, but until now I'd walk over to the TV and unplug/replug. Now I can just press the button and it's fantastic. Even if the Pi freezes or appears to crash in Kodi or RetroPie, I can now reboot without leaving the sofa.

Where are you seeing the 3x £4.99?
I ordered and cancelled twice, but if I go buy something I only see 1x £4.99 discount.

28 Nov 162#295
I registered three 99p buttons and have now bought one item from one of them (Whiskas Cat Food) - it had £4.99 "Dash Promotional Credit" applied to it as expected. The other two buttons I have not even selected a product for. I have placed two other Amazon orders for Christmas gifts - one for a book, one for an Xbox game - both separate orders, both had the same £4.99 "Dash Promotional Credit" applied. I used the Amazon chat to ask if this was right, they said it was fine!?? I kept a copy of the chat transcript just in case they change their mind!

I notice on my Dash button order summary there's an option to return them until 31 Jan 2017. Anyone thinking of returning theirs for refund after doing the single Dash order? Suppose it might look a tad suspicious to be sending back all 15 Dash buttons
The only thing you need to change is the way to install NPM, which has permissions issues on the Raspberry Pi. If you look in the comments, someone called Michael Groves mentions how to get around it. The rest works fine.

You can disable/deactivate the Dash Button in the Amazon app after you have made a purchase. Should be the same as never picking a product(?)

Noticed that the Dash price on 45 rolls of Andrex is £19 via dash, and £15 via Amazon direct...
Rang to complain, told me to try again in a few days (when I suspect the Amazon website price will rise to £19 too...).

Worked for me - really stupid question but it caught me out - is it definitely sold by amazon and not fulfilled by them?
Only thing that worries me is that Amazon are known for banning people for returns - hope it's not the same sort of thing for cancellations

So you get a £4.99 discount per button.
"You can choose an option from the product line your Dash Button is associated with. For example if you have a Dash button for a brand of laundry detergent, you can select various scents and sizes of detergent. Tap the item to select it."
So I guess its selected items of the brand of button you buy :stuck_out_tongue:
Also on each button page there is a link to click to see what you can buy with that particular button
can i set this up using laptop or do you have to use a phone/android tablet?
or only on the first?
No idea, but in any case, you only get a £4:00 discount as you have already paid 99p to purchase the damn thing
no.
did i buy one?
yes.
now to find a use for 90 bog rolls, guess it could make as a cheap xmas decoration at a push.
Order 2 you will use and select no rush delivery; get a £4 off voucher for each dash purchase (use once), plus the usual £1 Amazon credit for digital goods for not selecting next day.
£4 voucher x 2
£1 credit
Cost £1.98
Win!
I went a bit mad
even if you don't need or want it... if this works it will be everywhere... anything to quickly part you from your money or
put you more in debt

The dash button isn't really for us thrifty folk, its gimmicky, but the amazon alert app and @ 99p helps.
Saving you £4 on a purchase.
going to go for a few, just to mess around with them later on.

ordered four anyway, hot!
Or just put it where your children don't know where it is?!
hasn't the 4.99 on first order been running constantly? just with this deal you need to pay 4quid less to get that discount
edit: as above :man:
You need to have the dash button in your hand (and setup) to place 1st order (but I have a feeling you know that)
offer ends Tuesday
I dont think the dash has taken off in the UK and is not that popular in the USA

http://www.wsj.com/articles/amazon-to-add-dozens-of-brands-to-dash-buttons-but-do-shoppers-want-them-1466970276
to use 'properly' you need to check prices of the item when you place the order thus making the button irrelevant!
still... has its uses with deals like this (and potentially via the hacks after that first order)
The app in post #47 is worth a look and is FREE for 3 alerts - it does work, I have 3 alerts setup but like you say it sort of takes away the point of the whole idea, as you say.
kleenex cubes looks decent @12 for 12quid - thats supermarket offer price then get the discount
andrex puppies on roll 15quid for 45rolls? not sure i dont tend to do the buying there!
The Fairy one lets you order some pretty expensive dishwasher tablets, even with the fiver off it's going to cost you £25 quid for 180 tablets, more than I'd be willing to pay.
Prices do go up and down though
Can you order multiple ones of the same one? Can my wife order another set of 12?
i think.
anyway, nothing i would actually want to order, and the cost of what i would pay outweighs the discount, but for a pound IoT device, good price to muck around with.
Incidentally even with Prime, the Nerf and PlayDoh buttons won't arrive in time to take advantage of this offer.
mike
On paper these are great. You run out of an item you use a lot. The button is handily placed, press the button Voila! delivered the next day.
HOWEVER, us thrifty folks like a good deal and when you press the button you could be paying top dollar
For instance I rate the Fairy Platinum you mention. When I linked my Fairy Dash to the Fairy Platinum if I'd pressed the button to buy (which I did to test) the price was £50.00 for 149 tablets its now £28
Thats why the post #47 helps but really-
Dash button + us HOTUKD thrifty folk + after Tuesday when offer end = gimmicky and wont get used much if at all
its only the buttons that need to be ordered - the buttons dont need to arrive before a certain time and so neither do the actual products need to be ordered or delivered by a certain (near) time
will be 1.99 after discount and button price
add on ones still not sure what would happen - still be 99p min though
The deal here is that the button is only 99p today until midnight. After that it will go back to £4.99.
"We're sorry. This item has a limited purchase quantity. We have changed your purchase quantity to the maximum allowable." - purchase quantity changed to 0
I'm going to order 10 buttons now, since I just use them as wifi enabled buttons for my smart home, not to actually order items :P
edit: someone said there is an hour to cancel i think? so perhaps its the price 1 hour from button press
I'm thinking of ordering buttons for things I'm likely to need/use but can stick in the cupboard for later, Andrex, Fairy, Finish, Right Guard... then perhaps re-purposing for Hive heating, wifi plug, Home server reboot...
so we dont know what buttons will be good until we buy the button and look at the app? :man:
derwent button looks good as quite a few around a fiver but then thats website prices
"The deduction applies only one time per Dash Button, only to the customer account connected to Dash Button when you make the first press."
Or are you referring to the hacking? In which case, it's my wifi, I have total control and can do what I like, if I don't want the button to talk to the internet I don't have to let it :-)
But I ordered the Nerf button, because I might be able to use that.
I'll probably have a look to see if I can hack it further, but at the moment intercepting the signal is good enough for me.
mike
Me: i order a lot from amazon and i am quite disappointed in this. it seems this promotion was intentionally misleading to sell dash buttons and amazon customers would miss out on the deal since no-one would receive the dash button on time to order before 11.59 today
i just didn't want people ordering these only to find out they had been duped by Amazon hence my do not buy post.
Doorbell seems quite useful.
What else that doesn't require purchasing much else?
please see post #47
Now this has convinced me to buy a couple!!
if you bought say
Gillette and
Fairy
If you bought 2 x FAIRY you wont get £4.99 X 2
The ones in the post above say:
The ones currently on the linked page on Amazon say:
Edit: To clarify - It looks like they've changed the price of the button but updated the Ts&Cs poorly. It looks like the discount is supposed to be the same price as the button though.
Their system let me create an identical order but I just cancelled it.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-36481127
What a great idea for something to 'hack' though. and at a £1 each....
My local amazon prime delivery man isn't going to be happy with me, I ordered far too many with separate one-clicks...
I was just trying to work out if I actually needed one of these, and like you say, for £1 it's almost worth it regardless... However I just don't know what I'd use it for.
I am enjoying the list of : "things you can buy at the push of a button in the most improbable moments" , and also the "things you can do with such button after its uselessness has been proven"
Calling all the stand up candidates! Keep posting!

Do they mean discount is applied to that first purchase, or after the first press & subsequent order at full price for the next one?
heat added!

Until then this still ranks alongside the hands-free soap dispenser for the most stupid inventions of the 21st Century.
Worse case scenario my boys get some Nerf bullets and I end up saving my total outlay.
mike
This might help someone planning to do the same as me https://mpetroff.net/2015/05/amazon-dash-button-teardown/
mike
For example:
Dolce Gusto Cappuccino: £6.65 for 3 boxes
Sheba Select: £2 for 12 pouches
I think people will be kicking themselves over the next few days (reading this thread back) when they realise they've missed out on one of the deals of the year. It's complicated to get your head round
Don't get me wrong I ordered 20. But yes these will be for the specific brand. Unless you hack
I've ordered a few and am happy to stick to the brand items only.
I imagine they will all go out of stock tomorrow.
It's an absolute no brainer of a deal if you buy any of the products listed, the people saying these things are just as cheap elsewhere clearly don't understand it.
thanks and i could do this per dash
i've ordered 5 dash's. one for delivery in jan 2017
Ie order 4 whiskas buttons and get a load of cat for 4 quid (plus any differance over the fiver a product)
The sad thing is Amazon UK will probably think they've got a hit on their hands after thousands of HotUKDealers bought them today (to use once, claim the £4.99 discount and then put back away into their drawer full of random gadgets they'll never use again)
ordered goods.
got 4.99 off every order.
can confirm it.
i do have prime though but still chose standard delivery.
each dash takes 60s to link up
You can deactivate your Dash Button if you no longer want to use it, or if it is lost or broken.
Now my 3 year old is playing with multiple dash buttons which blink when pressed but does not order anything.
get to stage where enter wifi password but end up with error message saying " Sorry we were unable to connect your dash button."
any ideas how to fix. thanks
if all else fails, change your wifi temporarily to something simple?
(eg. this Gillette shave gel )
and it then takes off £4.99, do you get £2.50 off the rest of your basket?
Dettol Anti-Bacterial Surface Cleanser 750 ml - Original, Pack of 3
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00QIIKJC2/
£3.75
I had another item also in my basket on the phone app to test
All it did when I pressed the button was order the Dettol product (as a new separate order) and take off £3.75 (to make it £0)... but the other £1.24 (of the £4.99) discount just disappears I guess. I was hoping to use that additional discount off the rest of my basket
Still a great deal though. £0.99 for 3 Dettol sprays - 33p each. And a free wireless button I can re-deactivate and use as a switch to reboot/shutdown my Raspberry Pi
Needed to ensure 1click ordering was enabled in the app.

So with the Gillette button:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00E0Q2MBK/ref=ods_oft_db_rss_B01I29WVRU_desktop
This shaving gel is £2.05, so £4.99 off might give you £2.94 off your next order (and it only cost 99p to buy - basically £1.95 free Amazon credit and a free tube of shaving gel)
Perhaps Amazon are ashamed of the product.
as in #265 gillette button gives the choice of 36 products
the 4 buttons i got gave 5-10 items a piece i think but i made sure the prices were ok (hopefully) before ordering the button
have since pressed each and had the correct deductions made
wish had ordered a few more really!
still - made some decent savings
select "Your Account"
scroll quite far down and you will see
Dash Devices
- Manage Devices
- Set Up A New Device
When I click on it I get 8 boxes, the most obvious one is "manage your content & devices" but there ain't anything for dash... it just lets me delete old kindles.
So get something as cheap as you can, and get the credit to use on soemthing you really want.
thanks
mike
Did you succeed in using the button, deactivating it and then hacking it? Thanks in advance!
The latter only sees the ARP request, so the IP is not important.
this should be possible but dont know where to start.
I ordered and cancelled twice, but if I go buy something I only see 1x £4.99 discount.
I used the guide described here: https://howchoo.com/g/ymy4nza0nzb/reboot-your-raspberry-pi-using-an-amazon-dash-button
The only thing you need to change is the way to install NPM, which has permissions issues on the Raspberry Pi. If you look in the comments, someone called Michael Groves mentions how to get around it. The rest works fine.
Rang to complain, told me to try again in a few days (when I suspect the Amazon website price will rise to £19 too...).
Only thing that worries me is that Amazon are known for banning people for returns - hope it's not the same sort of thing for cancellations
