Most folk don't know the difference between tellys, for most it's all about the screen size, smart features etc. before they even think about picture quality, and even then, my missus can't even tell the difference between SD and HD at times...this is a 49" full HD telly with smart features for under £200, it will tick the boxes for anyone that isn't a tech geek...gets a hot from me

Bargain, currently £329 look forward to Friday.

Free delivery as well and can add a Roku stick for £8.99 due to promo of saving £10 when you buy a tv.

If you wanted to buy the tv now online at Tesco Direct, assuming the info is correct (OP has good form in previous Tesco tv deal) they will refund you the £130 when the price drops on Friday with a call into customer service. This is because they price match themselves 28 days post purchase. Could keep it sealed just in case the retailer changed the promo before going live, as there are free returns.

Can you connect things like iphones via Apple TV? Does this TV have USB inputs for attaching 3rd party devices

This is why I'm an advocate of never buying a TV online (or at least seeing them in store).

I recently had to replace my bedroom TV - was looking for something in the 42" range, with a budget up to £600 ish. I ended up with a 48" 4k Hitachi (Vestel) from Argos for £349. Screen quality wise, it blew those at the higher end of my budget out of the water.

It's a very subjective thing that needs to be seen in person IMO.
Anonknowmouse to St3vie

Unless she needs glasses resolution you perceive depends on how far you are from the screen and the screen size:
http://s3.carltonbale.com/resolution_chart.html
This chart assumes 20/20 or better vision, which almost anyone without serious eye problems should have. Most people need a 1080p TV between 40-60" depending on the viewing distance. The chart also shows why 4K is mostly hype right now. Massive and expensive 4K TVs are needed from 80-120" to get the full benefit! Plus you need fiber optic broadband, 4k streaming content, etc. It does make sense for gaming and VR.

Problem is if Tesco get a backlog of people ordering early and if they have a system that tracks pre-orders chances are it won't come on a Black Friday offer.

20 Nov 16 2 #45
Just to point that I said on the £269 Argos deal for the same TV (under the bonnet I mean, different brand but same tv) this would be £199 on Black Friday as the 2015-equivalent model was last year.

Bad luck if you've ignored my advice and gone with the sheep voting hot and paid £70 over the odds at Argos. If you've not opened the box you can still take it back. I even bet Argos will cut it to £199 themselves on the day.

SnowRider
20 Nov 16 #65
Oh, thanks. Edge lit is bad... Someone got one of those Blaupunkt Tesco telly a while ago for 90 quid and its side/ edge lit, you can see the light , its not proper. Or they are all like that?
Cheers.
abhijitdash123 to SnowRider
20 Nov 16 1 #75
Most of the LED TVs you get under £800 will be edge lit with a few exceptions. Some TVs may have the edge lit on left and right sides and some have on top and bottom. I think the photo which you are talking about, i am pretty sure that was a faulty TV and the guy must have replaced it. Normally any edge lit TV in complete darkness will have two bands of bright light and that is understandable. Ideally edge lights can be balanced with some bias lighting in the room, so all these TVs will be just fine.

But yeah dont expect it to have the same uniformity as a £500TV. It wont. Its cheap but it will be a happy TV for 90% of the population. For the rest, may be spending £500 or £800 would make more sense.

So think where you want to be before going ahead. If it was me, i would happily go for this, do some bias lighting and enjoy the telly

I don't know much about the specs on these tv's but we currently have a 4 year old toshiba 40rl958. Apart from the obvious increase in screen size do you think this TV would be a significant upgrade on our toshiba?
abhijitdash123 to theengelbert
20 Nov 16 #77
The TV you have got is quite good and this wont offer you anything better than that.

The screen size will increase but otherwise your TV has more adjustments than this one on the video processing.

So, i think it is not worth upgrading if you are not fussed about the size.

Anyone have an idea how reliable these things are? I bought a Digihome (Vestel) from Tesco in the past and the Wi-Fi crapped out after a few months - wouldn't have cared since I ran stuff through a Roku, but it kept popping up an annoying message. Seems a good deal for £200 assuming it will last a sensible amount of time.
abhijitdash123 to Sumpte
20 Nov 16 #79
These are quite reliable and it being Sharp, it will definitely be more reliable than a Digihome or E-Motion that i have

If you have a standard Xbox One or PS4 / PS4 slim you're not going to see the benefit. If you're planning to buy either of those newer consoles in the near future you might want to consider it but otherwise you're probably better off buying a good quality 1080p set.

No problem and yes it sounds like that will be fine for you. By the time 4K content is widely available 4K TVs will be better value anyway.

Chanchi32 - any reason you edited your post saying OP has posted reliable deals in the past! Is this deal by that reasoning another goose chase?!

I can't believe most of you have already purchased it.
Tesco will not give you money back. iv been through this with another tv from them.

all I can say time will tell, because most of you have done the same. Tesco clearly knows about hukd and will be monitoring this thread lol

24 Nov 16 #153
So true. So I don't want to buy unless it comes on sale

But if they all return their TVs back,Tesco will have to sell them as Customer returns (hence lower than discount price!) and make space for them again in their shops and warehouses!!! Tesco will lose big time that way imo

I'd rather pay that price for a better brand than Sharp!

These are the instructions for a similar model which is near enough the same and the VESA mount is 200x200 so anything in the range should be ideal as most Lcd/LEDs are light in comparison to their size.

Picked one up in-store at 5:30am, took it home and set up. Problem of some faint horizontal shadows/banding running down the screen which is mostly noticeable when watching football. Not sure if faulty or just because it's a cheap TV. Either way I wouldn't be able to put up with it so have taken it back. Sold out in-store now so unable to exchange and test another one.

Aside from that the TV seemed decent from my brief testing, iplayer ran quickly with no issues and on normal programmes/movies the picture was fine. If I wasn't such a football nut I would probably have kept it.

I ordered one at the reduced price on-line in the early hours of the morning. Then when Customer Services opened I phoned to ask for a price match refund on my original purchase, but they refused - said I had to take it back to a shop for a refund. At the shop they phoned through to direct who then offered me the price match refund! Bottom line, I've got a telly at the price I wanted, albeit the telly is well travelled. Tesco are now trying, at my request, to cancel the one I ordered on-line this morning, so at least one more should be going back into stock on-line.

Mines the same Nothing major compared to my Sony but still a bit off putting. Mine also has a bit on the middle at the bottom of the screen. Supposed it's down to the price point of the set but I'm debating on whether to try for a replacement set if they can source one as that may be even worse. hmmmmm

Guess I better test ours before Crimbo....

.... On a plus point I took the Ruku back to store to get refunded and they gave me the full whack back so a free tenner for me

Any idea if it'll be covered by warranty ( one year warranty)and maybe the decision could be taken slowly. Not too sure how they'd replace it even if covered by warranty.Refund of original (read discounted) amount or is replacement of the TV? Hmm.

Mine got delivered today (NI) .. Yodel did not make any mistake  set it up with no issues.. With an LG sound bar attached to it, it's amazing to say the least..

Anyone else had an email saying 'as requested we are processing a refund on your order'? Strange because I never cancelled it.

does anyone know how to program the tv remote to work with LG soundbar (SH5) ?
dalecheesy
1 Dec 16 #332
Its CEC/ARC compatible so if you have it attached through the HDMI 2 socket it might be possible to be controlled directly through the remote by enabling audio return control in the sharp settings CEC menu. There's probably an easier way though.

A bit of light bleed on my set too but nothing serious. Updated the firmware and Netflix works but YouTube just hangs? Anyone with same issue?
