Yep, i thought that.. Here's the email:

This is Ryan from Amazon Customer Services with a quick follow up to our chat about an order you are thinking of making.

As discussed, we offer a 2 year warranty on all items sold, and the Vax Warranty MY be honoured, should all the original paperwork be in the box. You may need to contact Vax on this matter.

At Amazon, we’re committed to providing our customers the best possible shopping experience. We comply with all applicable laws and offer solutions for defective products where the usable life has not been met, irrespective of the manufacturer’s warranty. We may advise customers to contact the manufacturer first, as they’re often able to offer immediate troubleshooting and support. We also offer technical support or authorised third-party repair for certain products.

all the items have 30 day warranty? I'm looking at buying a monitor and the warranty states 3 years when bought new... is it worth the risk? I plan to use the monitor every day...
luvclub
21 Nov 16 2 #84
First thing you should do once you receive the monitor is register it with the manufacturer. If it doesn't come up as being already registered then you're fine.

From then on you just need to resist telling the manufacturer it was bought used.

Also, I believe you're confusing Amazon's no-quibble 30 day return policy with their warranty and your statutory rights.

The 30 day "no-quibble" return policy is a "bonus" that they've thrown in for your peace of mind and does not exclude everything else.

At the end of the day the item is also sold by Amazon. The "Warehouse" is just a separate department that they created to separate out the used sales for promo/admin purposes. Warehouse sales are also covered by their usual warranty as long as your claim is not against the already advertised defect/fault. Some Amazon agents also get this confused sometimes so you may have read some people say they've been unable to make a claim, but if they persisted they would have found an agent who would have known that they were still covered by Amazon.

If all else fails, you're still protected under the consumer rights act even when you purchase second hand goods.

luvclub
21 Nov 16 2 #91
It's all relative though. The 1 inch difference between 49 and 50 inches represents a 2% size difference, but for the average sized one, 1 inches represents a lot more than a 2% size difference!
yellowplum
21 Nov 16 #92
Warranty is warranty, it probably hasn't been registered previously. I had a 4K samsung and registered it with the 3 years.

Although coverage is still pertinent under contract law, so amazon is your final destination.

So two things I want are for sale on Amazon Warehouse (Kenwood Multi-One, Logitech Harmony 350) but neither appear to qualify for the 20% off.

21 Nov 16 #96
hi, hypothetically speaking, if I bought a something from Amazon and then went on a chat to speak to someone, what percentage discount would they give me
Newbold
21 Nov 16 2 #97
Here's a very specific example of Amazon's sneaky (and probably unlawful) practices:

Fire Tablet, 7" Display, Wi-Fi, 8 GB (Black) - Includes Special Offers (Good) Before 20% 'deal' started: £29.98
Fire Tablet, 7" Display, Wi-Fi, 8 GB (Black) - Includes Special Offers (Good) Same item now: £37.61

Take off your 20% 'discount' and it's £30.09 - so actually it's not a discount at all. It's a slight price increase.

Pointless reporting Amazon to Trading Standards - they won't take them on because of their size and deep pockets.

It isn't as simple as that. Items graded as Good aren't all necessarily discounted at the exactly the same amount. Also whenever there are any promotions or good deals the decent prices are snapped up almost immediately.

It is most likely that before the current 20% promotion came online there were already Fire Tablets graded Good priced at both £29.98 and £37.91. When the promotion came online the £29.98 ones were all snapped up immediately leaving the more expensive £37.91 ones. If you think about it, it is unlikely the £37.91 ones would disappear that quickly as even after discount they would still be similarly priced to the £29.98 ones before the promotion.

Another example is when "Like New" graded items have sometimes been sold at 10% of the price of New items. If the prices were consistent then there will be crazily cheap prices all the time.
Newbold
21 Nov 16 #103
I'm afraid your theory is incorrect. These were absolutely identical in every respect, with an absolutely identical description of the 'imperfection'.

"Minor cosmetic imperfection on the top, front or sides of the item. Back has minor cosmetic imperfection."

This is a straightforward piece of trickery by Amazon.

bought an expensive monitor last night from the warehouse, wake up today to find out all warehouse items now have 20%.. I bought one a while back that said only that the packaging was damaged, however it had obviously been used as when I took it out of the packaging scaly water poured out of it.
I have had too many disappointments with poorly described warehouse deals that I don't bother with them anymore

imo amazon don't test returns also theyre used descriptions are made up to act like they've checked them which is not the case, they just put up generic random descriptions up and hope people buy it and are happy because they know if they are not happy they can return anyway, poor service imo as it wastes a lot of time and you get your hopes up for nothing most of the time.

New motherboard arrived in its original damaged packing inside a C4 packing already opened with no paper or bubblewrap to protect it. Board looks undamaged so should work fine. Went on Amazon chat just to let them know they need to relist it in their database to state a C4 box is insufficient and they gave me a 10% refund. 30% off helps take the sting out of needing to replace my now borked mobo nicely.

Got an S7 32GB in Gold for the wife's xmas for £320ish after 20% discount applied. Should be new according to description (damaged packaging) but it's still bit of a gamble knowing how often Amazon get it wrong. Will update on condition when it arrives tomorrow.
notavalidaddress
22 Nov 16 #168
Did something similar last year with a Note 4. First one arrived in dreadful condition - nowhere near the condition of Used - Very Good.

That went back and a replacement was obtained - same description - it look pristine.

Often can be luck of the draw - I do wonder if they just pick them from the same bin.
cheaperbythe12
22 Nov 16 #169
Yeah I know, can be ridiculous. I've gambled before on 'acceptable' condition and was simply damaged box, everything new and sealed inside. Had a few 'like new' items and products have definitely had use. It is a gamble but if it comes off it's great. You also need to be careful of too many returns as Amazon are known to cancel accounts for this (and anyone at same address' account is cancelled too).

Will let you know how it is tomorrow.

100% agree. One of the oldest tricks in the book. They increse by 20-25% then when they reduce it's the same price as before. Amazed how many people STILL fall for it
luvclub
22 Nov 16 #173
Lets say that the items in your basket are a good enough sample to reflect the price changes happening throughout the whole Amazon Warehouse. Based on your estimate that still means 10% of the items have either stayed the same price or have already decreased. We're talking 10% of probably at least a hundred thousand items in the Warehouse!

If you could now save a further 20% on those prices then surely that is a good deal?
Newbold
22 Nov 16 #174
I continue to be puzzled by your unswerving support for the blatant cheating and lies that Amazon use time and time again to boost sales. Fake RRPs, grossly manipulated pricing, tax avoidance, poor treatment of staff - this is not a nice company.
luvclub
22 Nov 16 #175
What you've said may be true, but this is a Deals website and I have seen many amazing deals during these recent Amazon Warehouse Deals promotions, so I consider it a hot deal.

At the end of the day it is for the individual to decide whether if the asking price is a good deal. It does not matter what Amazon states as the original RRP and how many percent it is supposed to be discounted by. If the price it is selling for after a further 20% discount is a bargain then buy it.

Just bagged one of these PS4 Pro 'Condition: Used - Like New - Item will come in original packaging. Packaging will be damaged. All purchases eligible for Amazon customer service and a 30-day return policy.' for £255.35.

The thing was I had to search for it via the main page and not warehouse deals. 29 Nov 16 1 #236
Nice you got there, I would register it straight away with manufacturers if I was you.
luvclub
29 Nov 16 #237
If you don't tell the manufacturer the item was bought used then how would they find out? Amazon Warehouse stock are usually just box damaged or customer returns when they've changed their mind (so unlikely that they've already registered it).

Your last resort is that you would still have your statutory Consumer Rights protection.

You also have all the guarantees offered by Amazon, same as in new sales. The 30 day no quibble returns policy is something EXTRA that they give for Amazon Warehouse sales.

It does not exclude anything else.

Argos also advertise 30 day money back guarantee and upon reading that you would not assume you would lose any of your statutory rights or warranties, so why should you take Amazon's return policy to mean it excludes everything else?

I never received the Palit GTX 1080 for £125.88 that I ordered at the same time as them. Maybe I should have only posted after it was dispatched! It subsequently changed to the dreaded DE.

Luckily I got this delivered instead! My best deal during these 6 months.

Up to 10 hours at work with desk-top pc. The rest of the day it is still possible to leave a tablet with remote desktop close-by (even while sleeping). Depends on one's dedication.

My only disappointment is that I never got a 65 inch TV.

Well it was fun while I lasted and it was all like a game. Enjoyed the excitement of buying rather more than the actual products themselves.
